    I'm comparing apples to apples. If those numbers are misleading for those reasons, your 105 is as well. Why? You just said it yourself: A prediction of a 105M payroll also does not include "midseason trades and a lot of other stuff". If the team went into past seasons with the payrolls I have indicated, what makes you think this year will be much different considering what we've already seen?

    Peanuts, but last year, they were at 99.5 with Sammy's money. 2004 was 90.5, 2003 was 79.8. They were in the 60's as recent as 2001. Link

    If I recall correctly, the 2004 and 2005 payrolls both exceeded 100. Last year's payroll looks deflated because MLB doesn't count the money we sent the Orioles to pay Sammy. When that money is added in, the Cubs were over 100 million last season as well. With the money we paid Sammy, I believe we were still under 100 (at 87 without). 2004 was 90.5, and we were in the 70's and below in 2003 and before.

    But he went through that last year, one year young, and couldn't come up with the lucrative deal. He had 1 AB last year, not a healthy and productive season.

    By looking at all those numbers, it really seems to me that the problem is I have no idea what the hell I'm looking at.

    $2300 can still get you a much nicer car to begin with, and even though you replace the engine, there's no guarantee on the tranny, suspension, etc.

    I'd guess that because the Steelers have more well known and more marketable players. I haven't heard anything about this, so maybe I'm reading too much into it, but... it seemed like Cowher was standing on the 50 yard line for a good two minutes after the game ended waiting for Holmgren to come shake his hand, yet Holmgren never showed. Am I the only one that observed that? I thought the exact same thing, but I've looked into reports and haven't seen anything mentioned about it. The impression I got was that Cowher was only concerned about where the post-game celebration was going to take place. He wasn't standing on the 50 or making an effort to get to the other side. He seemed to be looking around for directions to where the stage was being set up.

    I'll talk a lot of crap all year long about how the Cubs suck (and they will in my book until they win it all), but I've always been one of the loudest to cheer. I'd get behind this team even if it included Jacque Jones and Juan Encarnacion. Crap, I just threw up in my mouth a little...
