  1. The White Sox won with small ball and the Cubs will try to win with Little League ball. if by "small ball" you mean hitting a million home runs and having 5 healthy pitchers all year, then I agree Nevertheless, the ball is still pretty small. Smaller than a grapefruit, say. Is the grapefruit ripe?
  2. I find it both very amusing and extremely depressing that everyone is arguing over who's worse, one of the worst players offensively in the history of the game or our new prized acquisition.
  3. Thanks for the recap. I guess it's somewhat encouraging that he actually acknowledges doing something wrong. The part that scares me, after seeing some of his moves over the past couple of years, is that he seems to already have a plan on how to "fix" this team over the winter.
  4. I predict Kemp will cool down a bit from his 410/493/672 line but still post amazing numbers, all the while not doing it in a Cubs uniform.
  5. I am finally supporting the crowd who wants Soriano. It's frustrating to see the offense continue to get worse.`
  6. Will Carroll appears to be right on. Why would you want a guy who's sporting a line of 410/493/672 at AAA when you can have Izturis? I surely hope he was not one of the prospects.
  7. Loretta too. I knew I was missing one.
  8. I heard a couple of weeks on the telecast over the weekend, but I can't find anything concrete.
  9. Soriano, Ronnie Belliard, and Todd Walker are the cream of the crop FAs.
  10. Didn't see that one coming. Good luck, Juan!
  11. It's a waste when middle infield defense isn't the team's weakness. It's a waste when the biggest problem with the team is lack of offense, and they start counting on people with insanely bad offensive numbers. Just because the Dodgers felt that he was worth nearly 10M over 3 years does not make it a good contract. Somebody was foolish enough to give Neifi 2.5M. And what the hell does Beltre have to do with it? Izturis is being written off because of his history of inept offense. If I sucked at what I did and people at my new job knew it, they would have every right in the world to not be happy about bringing me on when other, better options may have been available. You're more than welcome to stop visiting this board if the comments are too much to take. Quite frankly, I could do without the whining. I really doubt Hendry is 'counting' on Izturis to carry the offense. Secondly, everyone on this board whines. Just because I have a different view than you doesn't mean I'm whining - come on now. 1) I never said Hendry is counting on him to carry the offense. Plugging someone in a lineup on a daily basis is counting on that person to produce, not carry. 2) Everyone on this board whines except you? Got it.
  12. This is a good post. I am in line with you. Lets get behind Izturis now and give him an opportunity to suceed before we run him out of town I don't think there's anyone here who wants Izturis to fail. They just realize he isn't that good a player and that Hendry turned down "a package of top-level prospects" for Cesar. Is there anything to that, or is it just a rumor?
  13. His comments during the game sealed the deal -- we need to get better at pitching, and we need to catch the ball. He somehow forgot to add that they someday may need someone who can hit a ball.
  14. I'm waiting and hoping. Surely somebody has to realize what's happened.
  15. What upsets me the most is that Hendry actually thinks he's traveling down the right path. The ship is sinking quickly right before his eyes, and he apparently has absolutely no clue.

  17. Awful lot of finger pointing from someone who is condemning the finger pointers. I have the utmost confidence that there are several "armchair GMs" contributing here and on other reputable sites that would do a better job at identifying the problems with a team and making moves to address those needs. http://www.apostropher.com/blog/img/pot-kettle.jpg
  18. I can't figure out why the hell Glendon Rusch is still employed. Listening to Hendry and that garbage about whether Glendon is going to do this or keeping Glendon fresh for that made me want to vomit. I held on hoping to hear something to the effect of being shocked that the media hadn't reported that he picked up Kemp or LaRoche as well. I'm with you. I've held on for too many years with that stupid blind faith that next year will be our year. Looking at stupid offseason moves hoping subsequent deals will somehow make it all make sense, but it never does. I think baseball is the greatest sport in the world, but days like today make me wonder why I even bother.
  19. And my guess is Guzman to replace Maddux.
  20. Theriot was called up a week ago when Lee went back on the DL (and of course hasn't played). I doubt he's getting called up.
  21. I'm not sure how they'd be ranked, but my guess is Maddux will be a type B and Walker a type C. I'm still confused which round they go in.
