  1. I guess this answers your question. Yes, it could be a PTBNL.
  2. Pains me to say it, but I don't think Iowa is #17. The offense looks to be fine, but the defense has too many holes now that Greenway, Hodge, Allen, and Johnson are gone. Iwebema and Mattison are fine, but I wonder about the inside guys. I just saw Kroul a month ago, and he didn't look to be in very good shape. I'm going to miss Hinkel and Solomon too.
  3. The very first HR on there is the back end of Sosa and Alou's back2back shots. It's true, the Cubs have not gotten a walk of win this yr. Have the Cubs even had a lead in the 9th?
  4. Gorzelanny? Sounds made up. Cubs win 8768-0.
  5. I'd rather put Soriano in the 5 or 6 spot in that lineup. His OBP has been historically bad. Murton Barrett Lee Ramirez Soriano Jones Pierre Can't hit a lick guy Pitcher
  6. ERA+ Borowski 161 Farnsworth 129 Remlinger 116 Guthrie 155 Alfonseca 73
  7. People in charge of personnel for the Chicago Cubs.
  8. Agreed. UCLA's comeback won me some money so I enjoyed that too. Did you win more money on that game than Adam Morrison did?
  9. That's perfectly fine with me if offense is added at 2B or CF. Too bad that's not happening.
  10. This is a great matchup. I'll take the Stones.
  11. I think Marshall gets an automatic bid because he's a lefty, even if Marmol, Guzman, Ryu, Mateo, et al perform better from here on out and over the winter. I think Hendry will make an attempt at getting Maddux back, and I think he will sign some 4.50 ERA 1.5 WHIP pitcher who was once on a playoff team.
  12. Trying to get banned from another site?
  13. Not really, there are only a few teams that would be able to claim him before us. (KC, Pittsburgh, and whoever else happens to be crappier than us). That's if I understand it right, which isn't a sure thing. Pittsburgh would be the only team stopping us. If more than 1 team claims a player on waivers, the team with the worst record in the same league has dibs. Are you sure about that? I thought that it was the team with the worse record, regardless of which league they played in. Nope, teams in the same league come first:
  14. You mean someone like Andruw Jones? Andruw is just as much of an impact player as Soriano ever was. Andruw's career OPS+ is 116 to Soriano's 111, and Andruw's puts up his numbers more consistently (last 3 years were 121, 113, 133 vs Soriano's 128, 98, 110). Andruw gets on base a whole lot more, and SLG is about a wash. I never fully supported the idea of getting Soriano, but this team needs a lot of offense. I wouldn't mind seeing both of them added for next season. Considering all players in a deal must clear waivers, getting him now makes more sense because the cost would probably be a lot lower than in the offseason. The Cubs wouldn't be able to move any top prospects like Pie, Marshall, etc. right now -- somebody like Pittsburgh would surely make claims on them.

  16. So if you want to make a trade right now the players to be traded from both teams have to clear waivers? Any trades made after July 31 may only involve players who have cleared waivers.
  17. Would players like Pie, Marshall, Hill, etc. clear waivers to even make a deal possible?
  18. Link Phil Rogers chimes in on who gives the best players in the game a rough time. Zambrano gets mad props for both pitching (vs Pujols) and offense (vs Carpenter).
  19. Pedro-when you look at the past results of the two players, how can you believe that Cedeno will have a better year? Really-Cedeno would have to improve 59 points in OPS just to make it up to Izturis's year so far this year. If you take out the 3 months that Izturis played with the injury last year, he has improved every single year of his career-every single year until this year in which he is coming back from the injury. I am not basing it off of grit or hustle or anything else, but simply the stats-which show that Izturis has gotten better every year he's been healthy. If you think the reason is that he is not going to be healthy next year, then say so. Otherwise, I don't know how a detailed look at the stats doesn't reveal that he will probably continue to improve (although at a slower rate-it's much easier to progress at a fast rate when you're going from terrible to bad). So why do people think he is suddenly going to start to regress again?
  20. I have decided that I will no longer partake in conversations where Cesar Izturis is being portrayed as something that he is not. I understand being a homer and thinking things will change, but please do not let facts stand in the way of making an opinion. You can subscribe to the Joe Morgan/Dusty Baker/Kevin Kennedy school of thought that grit and heart and hustle somehow carry more weight than actual results, but I prefer to live in reality. By identifying and acknowledging the shortcomings of this organization, I am one of the many that will be less dissapointed in their future failures -- I'm rightfully expecting them. I firmly believe, based on past results of the 2 players, that Cedeno will be better than Izturis next year and make $4 million less. Jim Hendry was fortunate enough to take advantage of a couple of teams desperately trying to unload payroll to get Ramirez and Lee. I still think the Nomar trade was a good one, and while I wanted him brought back, I can certainly understand the thought process in letting him go. However, the remainder of deals he has made since taking over have put this franchise down the path to failure. The path must be angling downhill because we're getting there in an awful hurry. Oh wait, his deals have just been that bad.
  21. That's the biggest load of crap I've heard in quite some time. They have to put a terrible hitter in the 2 spot? The only way he doesn't bat 2nd next year is if a competent manager is hired. If Dusty is back, he'll have his double leadoff combo again.
