  1. I think he can save us 30-40 runs a year on defense. He can make 4-5 extra outs per week, which will save us 1-2 runs a week. These will come from partly some balls that he can get to that other people cannot, and partly doing things like turning more double plays effectively when he gets the chance. I think 30-40 is on the high side, but whatever. How many runs would someone like Tejada get us over the course of a season with his offense?
  2. 11/08. Hmm, baseball-reference has 11/14 listed. every news article says 11/08. The actual signing date may have been after the agreement, which could be the difference. If it was 11/8, that's pretty much the nail in the coffin for this argument. 11/11 was the first day of the free agent signing period.
  3. How many runs will Izturis save us over the course of a season with his defense?
  4. It's more difficult to gauge who's truly in the playoff hunt on 7/31 than it was before realignment and the WC. I think teams like the Phillies were wise for making moves under the assumption that they were not one of those teams. Everyone else just stands pat foolishly thinking they have a shot, similar to this very Cubs team a year ago.
  5. 11/08. Hmm, baseball-reference has 11/14 listed.
  6. Izturis is out there for his glove, not his bat. Defense is important, too. Not nearly as important when it isn't the problem to begin with.
  7. No, you are supporting the Neifi deal. That's exactly what you did when you tried to claim he's not overpaid. IIRC, Neifi wasn't ever a free agent, which means that if other teams were offering more money, they should be punished for tampering. I was going to bring that up earlier because I thought it to be the case as well, but I can't find anything that says if he actually filed. He signed on 11/14.
  8. why don't you post his number here so we can give him our thoughts. I believe there is some available storage space on my cell phone.
  9. You should check a couple of threads down. viewtopic.php?t=34301 http://www.northsidebaseball.com/PremiumForum/viewtopic.php?t=34301
  10. Even if Izturis brings his numbers up to those levels, he'll still easily be out-produced by Eckstein. That is not a good comparison.
  11. Don't you think that Iz is a bit more upside to his career then Neifi? I mean you can't be serious? I'm pretty sure he is, as a large number of us feel the same way.
  12. C'mon! You would be comfortable with Neifi Perez at SS instead of Itzurtis going into next year? THEY ARE THE SAME PLAYER
  13. There are no facts to support that claim. Just because Hendry once told Kaplan that other teams made offers, it doesn't make it true.
  14. Problem with that logic is that the player/players the Cubs want to send to Washington for Soriano also have to clear waivers and have to get past all the teams at the bottom before they get to Washington's place in the standings There are only 2 teams worse than the Nats -- the Cubs and Pirates. We'd just have to sneak guys by the Bucs.
  15. what was his excuse in Boston, Cincinnati, Colorado and Minnesota? Bad clams, WKRP, rocky mountain oysters, and Canadians.
  16. I doubt you heard that. Even if somebody offered more (doubtful since Jim locked him up right away) that doesn't mean he's not overpaid. A terrible SS doesn't deserve $5m guaranteed. To be honest with you, I have heard it numerous times from David Kaplan. Kaplan got that nugget from Hendry himself in one of his CYA rants.
  17. Bottom of the order? Cesar is hitting second, dude. All hail Cesar! Haha. When they see him hit 2nd this year, they'll have to reconsider. They saw Neifi do it a lot and don't seem to have any second thoughts. He did last night, and we only lost by 11.
  18. People loved Augie Ojeda too. This isn't a popularity contest -- crappy players are crappy players.
  19. I prefer the term extensioned. The title should be "Mariotti extensioned".
  20. Exactly. It's not like they play at 8 AM. Christ, I've been going to work for years after bad nights of sleep.
  21. That would be the cheap way to get him via trade, but I have a feeling Bowden will foolishly hold onto him and watch him walk in the offseason. I wonder what we could sneak through in order to send back to them. I doubt the Pirates would make a claim, but I think the Nats would withdraw the waiver if they did.
  22. He also had 260 more plate appearances.
