    At the simplest level, just a gut feeling. Take Julio Franco for example. Bobby Cox always brings him back at the end of every year. If a manager who has taken his team to the playoffs 14 straight years feels that he is a valuable addition to the clubhouse, then I'd have to believe him. he was there because he wasn't making a lot of money and putting up respectable numbers

    I was wondering the same thing myself. the only race thing I remember was him saying that black people play better in the heat. You don't remember his claims of incessant racial taunts against LaTroy Hawkins and Jacque Jones? Or his comments about San Francisco's racist tendencies when they ran him out of town? his defenses of LaTroy and Jacque were justified

    Warner Wolf, a longtime NY area sports guy on the news, and ESPN 1050 personality, recently told the story, I believe, about the first time a team (probably Yankees) used numbers. They stuck to the number of their position or batting order, can't remember. I think it was in the 20's. Batting order, which is why Ruth was 3 and Gerhig 4. and, unfortunately, Theriot is 2

    Wait, what? You guys have both been to another road game on April 9th that also went 15 innings? Weird. Yeah... we were in Atlanta 4 years ago when the CUBS beat the Braves 2-1 in 15. Ain't that a hoot !! we're gonna need to see some sort of proof
