  1. Calvinball gets Lynx's 5th round mlb pick
  2. You could honor our lord and savior jim hendry by using batting average with runners in scoring position and 2 outs.
  3. I'm in. My sucking at fantasy baseball will finally pay off!
  4. If you're saying he's going to get concussed 100 times, then a-ok.
  5. The Manziel = Romo comparison seems way off to me. I don't think of those two as anything like each other. Really? I actually think that's a pretty good comparison for Manziel. Yeah. The big difference that sticks out to me is the running ability. I felt like Garcia was a better comparison - which he touched on, but discarded. I've always thought McNabb when he was drafted is a good comparsion to Manziel. McNabb was 223 at the Combine IIRC. McNabb was a beast all the way back to HS though. Maziel is elusive, but I don't recall a ton of times he's used his size and strength to break tackles or run over DBs. Garcia seems like a good comp.
  6. it's arguably TA&Ms trademark and they have to enforce against uses that could create confusion. They absolutely don't have to enforce it against a small brewery. Not only that, but the deal with Seattle is what we call a naked license. A well-funded recipient of one of these over-reaching demand letters, or this brewery a few miles from my office if they call me, could have a lot of fun with your alma mater. Well you sound like you're a lawyer so I'm not going argue against you as I am not one. I will trust A&M's lawyers to do what they need to do to protect our trademark. This is what I've done for the last decade, so yeah. A&Ms lawyers are doing what a lot of big companies do to small companies. This is a relatively extreme case b/c there's 0 chance of harm to A&M, esp since they already "license" it to a team a few miles from this brewery. If anyone is harmed, it's the Seahawks (and they don't care). Wrigley, on the other hand, would be perfectly within their rights to send a letter about the use of Skittles in the name of the beer. I actually just thought it sounded like a disgusting beer. Should have posted it in the beer thread.
  7. So they want to kill end of game comebacks? Hilariously, the proposal, which is submitted out of concern for "player safety", has an exception for the last two minutes of a half. It's wildly stupid, but given the current substitution rules, in practice it would only be a very minor annoyance for all but the most extreme tempo teams. For example, Matt Hinton tweeted that Oregon took 20.4 seconds per snap this year. Freeze or someone said that even at max speed, they rarely get a play off in under 10 seconds. Of course, if the rules prohibits something that never happens, why have the rule?
  8. Yeah but Bells would have lost that case in court probably.
  9. Hey guys, maybe CC should only count for half his points. Yikes.
  10. Has Truffle confirmed that he's coming back? Has anyone heard from the guy that runs Chicken Of Sea?

  12. [expletive] Aggies threatened some small brewery up here for making an IPA with Skittles in it. http://kzok.cbslocal.com/2014/01/30/foggy-noggin-forced-to-drop-12th-man-label/ Or they objected to the use of "12th MAN" in the name, which is such a bs claim.
  13. Why not Ackley at 2B? Are we figuring Baez comes up later this year and he or Castro has to move to 2B? I'd like Paxton and Ackley if we could find another piece.
  14. it reminds me of why i hate college football so much and why i love the college football thread so much. GR is a seemingly successful lawyer/father/family man who just loses his [expletive] defending his favorite 19-year-old rapists. it's awesome. I do love a good rape. you in for this friday?
  15. I don't know that anyone really thinks he'll ruin a team's chemistry, though it'll certainly make certain NFL players uncomfortable (some have said as much, usually anonymously). But Missouri's success with Sam doesn't really blow a hole in any idea of how an NFL team will handle it. i dunno, some of the argument is that the media attention will cause problems, but a lot of people think that the locker room will just fall apart because other football players can't handle being around a gay. Sure, but how it's handled at Missouri (with one of the best players on the team) doesn't necessarily tell us much of anything about how it would be handled in an NFL locker room. I'm assuming for some teams it'd be basically a non-issue. I don't think that's the case for all teams though.
  16. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/02/11/masahiro-tanaka-expensive-flight_n_4764346.html we dodged a bullet

  18. That doesn't really make any sense.
  19. He had been in the minors when he received his 50 game suspension and finished the season there. If he breaks with the team out of spring training I'll lose him but I'm willing to take the risk. Ah, this is the discussion we were having in the other thread. I guess it is relevant this year. This was the rule I thought applied too, but there seems to be some disagreement.
  20. Yeah, all the talk about "how will at effect his draft stock" is cracking me up, considering the first story I saw last night said "possible first rounder" and now it's "projected third to fifth rounder" He was never a first rounder and once you get past the first (and maybe second rounders), it's especially tough to get a consensus on where a guy should be drafted for a whole host of reasons. Yeah, the reports from Senior Week weren't glowing: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000316426/article/missouris-michael-sam-struggles-as-linebacker-at-senior-bowl. And here's a "pre-announcement" summary of his stock from various places: Kiper: fourth rounder DraftTek: third round (#81 overall on their big board) McShay: third to fifth
  21. it really sounds like this was about to come out anyway, so it's hard to argue he cost himself money. might as well do it your way if the decision is going to be (unfortunately) forced upon you. also, if peter king's source is right and this guy goes undrafted, i'm going to have a hard time talking myself into sticking with the nfl. i don't know what it says about me that i can abide watching young men destroy their brains but not this. either way, i'd find it awfully crushing if they just blacklisted this guy. true. but, an unconfirmed rumor that he's gay probably drops him, maybe a lot. coming out a few months before the draft could result in him being undrafted. I think he falls a long way sadly. I hope I'm wrong and some GM is secure enough to draft him. But I doubt a GM that isn't absolutely sure about his job would draft Sam right now. Seems pretty clear that homophobia, or at least the remnants of it, is still common in the NFL.
  22. Good for him. Hard to say bc he was already a tweener but he's probably cost himself millions. Hopefully it makes the path easier for others sooner than later.
  23. But more importantly than rape, suicide and the death of students, Notre Dame doesn't bend recruiting rules. omg you look so pathetic with this
  24. BTW - a punter got suspended? ND kicked its starting QB that lead them to the god damn national title game out of school for cheating on one test one time. And you think there's an institutional cover up of so many rapes that goes from head coach to AD to president of the university? That's pretty patently ridiculous.
