  1. speaking of guys who are going to be crappy nfl quarterbacks...
  2. That's not the way I understand it. Brey was after him. Brey could of been after him harder but he was offered a scholarship from ND by Ty. UM has a scholarship available and it wouldnt hinder the 2010 recruiting class schoolies. RR said something a couple weeks ago that they were looking at filing some open spots from the 2009 class and mentioned QB. Wonder if something was in the works then. I'm not debating he was offered a scholarship, but he wasn't actively pursued by the football program. Of course, one can debate whether Ty actively pursued any recruit.
  3. That's not the way I understand it. Brey was after him.
  4. this thread should have ended here.
  5. I think this can only turn out great. If he plays, he'll either get killed (win) or gets "sacked" every play because he flops whenever someone gets within 2 feet of him (win). Besides, nothing says "QB Factory" like starting a PG from Duke that got benched his senior year. Make it happen DickRod.
  6. people wonder why they get stupid trade offers all the time. b/c if you're in PCP's league, you're pissed that he took advantage of the idiot before you could.
  7. Why is he bitter and unprofessional, and where are you seeing it in that quote? And how can he, like you say, agree with everyone and still come off bad by saying it? Are you asking me the difference between Heath Bell saying this and me or you saying this? That's what it sounds like. He needs to shut up and play baseball, not publicly criticize his crappy team's coverage in the national media. And he comes off sounding bad when voicing a popular opinion because that opinion doesn't need to be stated by a professional athlete. It's just an attention grab, and it sounds bitter and unprofessional unprofessional? He's not a doctor, he's a baseball player. They chew tobacco and play with themselves on national tv. You think saying a sports network is biased in favor of New York makes him unprofessional? b/c he plays in the league, he's not allowed to express his opinion about media attention?
  8. by gain, do you mean improve plate discipline? I certainly think players below a certain level of discipline can improve upon it. Whether the can go from "bad" to "good" (whatever those terms mean) I don't know. But I think Soriano could have improved his plate discipline when he was younger.
  9. it may be myth, but Vlad seems to hit any ball that's within 3' of the plate and hit it hard. I don't really hate either player though. I hate Soriano's contract.
  10. But he showed signs of wearing down long before he approached the 100 game mark, let alone the full season. He did, but there's a lot to adjust to and I think a full season of experience helps. Language and cultural differences obviously, but also travel. I imagine the effects of traveling across the US for 6 months v just Japan can be pretty significant. He still may tail off or fall off completely, but I think there are a number of reasons why he could improve significantly with a year of experience.
  11. You shouldn't think of soonernation as an addition. More like...a replacement.
  12. I haven't been thrilled with Lou's in-game decisions, but his choice to keep Marmol in his current role was a great one.
  13. lou continues to drive me crazy. STOP OVERMANAGING.
  14. being right is clearly not a prerequisite to being judgmental.
  15. But somebody else nailed it here first. :Di meant raw's reasoning
  16. Jones this year. raw nailed it. As for Dukes, I dropped him in every league except a keeper league. He was already dropped by other teams in other leagues and cleared waivers. I'm pretty sure if you drop him now when he's not hitting and not playing everyday, you'll be able to get him later. Just be the first to jump when he starts hitting and playing regularly.
  17. Major league baseball teams are playing games right now is he is unemployed. I'd say he needs to get his career back on track. He apparently had calls from multiple teams within days of being released. It sounds like he's unemployed b/c he's trying to decide which option is the best for him. Given that all the teams are paying him the same, it's really up to him to pick.
  18. I understand, but the chance of a CS with Theriot seems to be getting higher. Giving up an out with the pitcher at the plate and Soriano on deck kills almost any chance of scoring. Heck, with Soriano's power, I think I'd rather have Theriot on 1B with Soriano up and 1 out (i.e., pitcher doesn't get the bunt down) than have Theriot trying to steal lately. Soriano doesn't seem like a great risk to hit into a DP, so even if he doesn't drive Theriot in from first, you're probably looking at a runner on first with 2 outs or runners on 1st and 2nd with 1 out. And in either case, your #2 hitter is up.
  19. Assuming you're kidding, but still ... who would want a guy that throws the team under the bus for his own personal interests? I was completely kidding. I don't think Peavy is throwing any games to force a trade. That said, Bradley pretty much came out and said he didn't play with nagging injuries at times. And I completely support having Bradley on the team. If a guy feels his team is jerking him around, so he doesn't give it his all every time out (whether completely intentional or not), it's kind of hard to blame him. I would be surprised if everyone on nsbb right now could say they gave 100% to their employer all of the time and that when they felt they were getting shafted by their boss in some way, that it didn't hurt their performance (or desire to do their best). But if Peavy tanks a game and that leads to him being traded to the Cubs more quickly and for less, I'll welcome him with open arms.
  20. I'm assuming he got the green light and made the decision to go on his own, as opposed to getting the "must steal" sign. This reminds me of something I saw that was rather stupid in game one. Houston had Bourne batting 8th. He gets a lead off single. Oswalt bunts him to 2nd. That's it. Done. I'm sorry, but what is the point of even having that guy in the big leagues at all if he can't steal a base. Wouldn't it have made a lot more sense to have Oswalt bunt him to 3rd after Bourne stole 2nd? This leads me back to Theriot. Let Theriot bat 8th and steal all he wants while batting in front of the pitcher. With the heart of the order coming up, however, unforced errors are rather stupid. I don't know about that. If Theriot gets on base in front of the pitcher and gets bunted over, there's a good chance Soriano drives him in. If he gets caught stealing, Soriano comes up with 2 outs.
  21. Every time Bradley runs, he looks like he could fall apart. Nearly snapping his ankle on first base b/c he was watching the pop up was horrifying. Of course, that was better than nearly breaking his neck doing cartwheels in RF. He looks really awkward. I was hopeful about Fukudome coming into ST. But his WBC performance made me cautious. And he looked really bad yesterday. Lee really needs to be moved from 3rd in the order. I know the order doesn't greatly alter expected runs scored, but I hate watching him hit 3rd. Slide Bradley up and put Soto in the top 5, please. Lou's managing style still drives me nuts. With 1 true long reliever and 1 guy backing up 3 IF positions (and probably not being good at 2 of the 3), I have fears of what our team is going to look like if he starts tinkering too early in a game. This roster isn't built for Lou's desire to get as many guys into each game as possible. But what concerns me the most is no firejoemorgan. With Sunday Night Baseball getting dumber and almost every ESPN analyst being stupid, I'm really going to miss those guys in a few weeks.
  22. Maybe Peavy will intentionally lose games to make the Padres a) want to cut his salary faster, and b) lower their demands b/c he'll be deemed not as good
  23. Halladay got blasted by the Tigers. The Tigers suck. Ergo, pass.
  24. meh. If it happened early enough (i.e., before the season started), you should be able to email ESPN and tell them you want out of the league. I'm pretty sure you can do that with Y! In a case that bad, they'd just delete the whole league, I'd imagine.
  25. Someone should give Magic a talk show. He's been great as an "analyst."
