There's a difference between doing it just because he wants to and doing it because it's somewhat forced on him by failed negotiations. I'm sure he wants to take on the Cubs job, but if he has to wait a year and doesn't want to put up with another year of Hendry and Lucchino, that's when that possibility could come into play. My hope is that they get Hoyer and McCleod signed as soon as possible so they can get on with the offseason and when Theo joins, he joins. He doesn't have to sit out a year. If the Sox don't let him out of his contract, he's their GM. They can't force him to stay at home. It makes no sense. 0. None. Yes, that is an option, but they could be at the point where they feel that it is a conflict of interest, or simply don't want to work together any longer. I know, if that were the case the sensible thing to do would be to just let him come to the Cubs and take what they're given, but these guys don't sound quite rational and seem like cut off their nose to spite their face guys. But here's the thing, he is their GM. They can't keep him under contract and have someone else perform the GM duties, then they'd be in breach. Didn't we do this dance yesterday?
