  1. I already apologized. It's in the past. Let it go, man. This will haunt you forever.
  2. From what I read (can't remember the article now), there's no compensation. Moorad has a good relationship with Ricketts, and wanted Byrnes to be GM anyway. So this is a way to lose Hoyer's salary, keep him happy, and promote the guy he really wants to be GM anyway. It was Levine on ESPN
  3. OMG READ THE ENTIRE THREAD AND STOP BEING LAZY! Am I doing it right? So far over your head that it's under your feet. Oh, don't worry. I was well aware of goony's sarcasm. So you're trolling?
  4. OMG READ THE ENTIRE THREAD AND STOP BEING LAZY! Am I doing it right? Depends. What's your goal?
  5. the only time i'd tell you to take it easy and take a step back is if you standing on a cliff and facing the other way I don't know who this new guy is, but he's funny.
  6. Not only will you not check any of the dozens of news sources but you suggest that someone else summarize everything for you in a neat little FAQ section? Wow. Hostile much? The tone of my post was not just for me, but for all people, seeing as you said my question was answered "a million times already", and seeing as I only asked it once... you do the math. I apparently wasn't the only one to ask the question, and this would give an easy outlet to EVERYONE, not just me. Calm down. Take some deep breaths, and go to your happy place. Think positive thoughts. (yes, I understand the irony here) I'm rarely hostile and not now. Your asking others to spend time making your life easy when you can't be bothered to check Cot's for a GM's contract status is annoying. You may not be hostile, but you sure do have trouble reading. Go back to the very post you responded to and see the part where I said "everyone." Go ahead. I'll wait here. .... Done yet? Ok. I was merely putting a suggestion out there to cut down on the repetition from everyone (there's that word again!) and not just me. If simple, well-intentioned suggestions bother you that much, you must have some issues. Oh dear lord. You're hiding laziness behind "it's good for everyone" as if the personal benefit to you is merely a byproduct?
  7. Maybe he met the Hoyer part was done. That would certainly give the Cubs the upper hand here. He's a Boston guy, so you have to figure he's talking about the whole deal.

  9. *sigh* Moorad and Ricketts are buddies. Moorad loves Byrnes. Therefore, Moorad will not stand in the way of Hoyer coming to the Cubs, thereby allowing him to promote Byrnes to GM. Your annoyance by my very existence is amusing to me. This forum must amuse the hell out of you then. That said, it's not your existence that is annoying. It's the fact that people keep asking questions that have been answered like 10x already by links/reports. Even if there's too much random discussion in here, is it that much harder to check ESPNChicago or the Tribune's sports page for the latest than it is to ask someone here? It does! I have a great time here. Perhaps someone could throw together an FAQ and put it in the original post? That way if someone asks a question that has been "asked a million times" (give or take), they can be directed to the FAQ in the OP. Just seems like it would make things easier on everyone and cut down on a lot of the repetition. Not only will you not check any of the dozens of news sources but you suggest that someone else summarize everything for you in a neat little FAQ section?
  10. I also can't imagine him going back to work there either. That's why I think it will happen. It will take as much time as Henry can drag out of Ricketts. It's a huge PR mess for them. Dragging this thing out is about the only face saving gesture they can do at this point. After it's over they will sling mud on Ricketts and Theo and hope the masses buy it all. I mean legally they can't keep him under contract and prevent him from fulfilling his duties. I assume his contract gives him pretty broad baseball decision authority that they'd need someone to use. They can't just usurp that without letting him go one way or another. The Red Sox have always operated their front office by committee approach. They can, and have when Theo resigned in 2005, operate their front office with one leg missing from the stool. That's why it's fuzzy who is to blame for all those putrid contracts. They can just relegate Theo to the basement with a stapler for the next 12 months, like Milton from Office Space, if they want to while Cherrington does all the GM work. I don't know why they would when there is 6.5 million on the books and they can get compensation for him today, but it's not the first time upper management in a business has done something dumb/petty when huge egos and pride get involved. Yeah I doubt that's true. That's called breach of contract.

  12. Well, he did go to Law School and got his J.D. So he passed the bar *and* he knows a little bit? Wiki says he didn't take the bar and attended SD law while working for the Pads. He clearly has negotiated some contracts in his time, but I maintain that he was crazy to negotiate his own with the sox. I still think or hope he's smart enough not to allow himself to be held hostage. I also don't think Bud would allow that precedent.

They can't just usurp that without letting him go one way or another. At some point, it was brought up by someone that Epstein didn't include a lawyer and negotiated his own contract with the Red Sox, so maybe that language isn't in there. Or maybe it is. Who knows. This is the kind of thing that would be reported on if we had remotely competent sports journalists in either town. He negotiated his contract with a psychopath without a lawyer? WTF Theo? You're brilliant or insane.
  14. I've clearly established that.

  16. CNY isn't a threat to the MVP.
  17. I'm not sure how the sox can make Theo sit out a year. He's their GM. They can't just sit him on the bench like a grumpy slugger.
  18. Me too. Do you think he's intimately involved in the negotiations at this point? I imagine it's really important to the Ricketts that he approves the talent that's leaving in order for him to come. Maybe Epstein himself is the huge sticking point, as the attractiveness of the job goes significantly down if lose our #2 prospect. Doubtful. I would think Theo having any part in the negotiation would represent a huge conflict of interest. That and Theo isn't basing this decision on one prospect.

  20. I hope Cherington sees this and freaks the [expletive] out along with every other decent GM candidate and Boston has to hire Hendry.
  21. I'd be interested in reading what he had to say. Link? Grantland,I think.
  22. Maybe best to start reading before you post "news."
  23. Not the first time he's let folks down.
