  1. He visited ND for a fb game just before he signed with the Cubs and I was in the stands among those chanting something about the Cubs. I also didn't know Ty's history when I was excited about him in 02 so I learned to study up a lot more on coaches before just being excited about something new.
  2. We're not doing the McNutt bs again. If you missed it the first dozen times, go back and read it.
  3. Yes. Taking the most backward organization in the majors and turning it into the most advanced is a part-time job. If he's outsourcing all the day to day baseball duties to the GM it sure gets a lot closer to it. Guys like Epstein get to these positions because they're super smart and work 18 hour days, if he goes to 12 hour days because someone like Hoyer is taking on all the traditional duties of a GM it'll feel like a part time job in comparison. In any case, I don't think it's just a titular distinction. Epstein will be in the trenches doing the nitty gritty to some degree I imagine. He's getting twice the salary to work half as much. If you think he won't accept that gig, we shouldn't hire him bc he's stupid.
  4. Seriously. Well, we've got 10 pages of cubclapp agreeing with other people, so that's probably the floor.
  5. I just think this has more to do with gymnastics for titles for everyone involved than it does for actual duties. I doubt they're paying Theo all that money to not make all of those types of calls. And there's no way they won't be collaborating on all remotely significant decisions. It seems silly to even suggest otherwise. Like others have said, this seems far more like Paxson/Forman than MacPhail/Lynch. That's why they're hiring a guy that's worked with Theo. He knows what decisions fit within Theo's overall plan for the org so that Theo doesn't have to be involved in all those decisions. ETA if he's overseeing what sounds like a huge overhaul of the organization, he'll earn his paycheck without holding Hoyer's hand while he signs middle relievers (to short term deals, obviously).
  6. Correction: president of baseball operations. Call them what you will, but for all practical purposes, Theo will be GM and Hoyer will be Assistant GM. I don't think that's true. Why not? Whether their titles are GM and Assistant GM or President and GM, they'd still be in the same spot in the organizational hierarchy and they'd still be working mostly together, but Hoyer would be the one doing most of the grunt work. Bc Hoyer would do the GM duties and Theo would do the president of baseball ops duties. I'm just saying that I'm pretty sure that would've mostly been the case had their titles been GM and Asst. GM. I don't think so. I think you make Hoyer the GM if he's handling most of the signings and trades with Theo in the loop and involved only in huge deals. If Hoyer doesn't have that level of autonomy, he's AGM.
  7. Correction: president of baseball operations. Call them what you will, but for all practical purposes, Theo will be GM and Hoyer will be Assistant GM. I don't think that's true. Why? Theo's essentially the "GM", he just now has no middle man to worry about like he did in Boston with Lucchino. He's in charge. No, he'd be the president of baseball ops. Hoyer would be the GM. I don't think they'd hire Hoyer as GM if he wasn't going to be the GM. If Theo wanted to do all the GM stuff, he'd just keep both titles.

  9. Correction: president of baseball operations. Call them what you will, but for all practical purposes, Theo will be GM and Hoyer will be Assistant GM. I don't think that's true. It seems to me that Epstein wants out of the day to day grind of GMing and wants to be able to focus on the bigger picture. Right. And bringing in a guy he knows and trusts who is currently a GM strongly suggests Theo wouldn't be handling those duties. I love it.
  10. That's been the talk of the day and some of yesterday. Levine says TR and Moorad are friends so compensation won't be an issue. It would be great to have Hoyer signed as GM first to really take the wind out of Larry's sails.

  12. Not delmon. Da meat tree.
  13. Yep. We should have Samuel L. Jackson as the PA announcer.
  14. No Latroy. He's the opposite of swag. Rafael Soriano.
  15. King Felix in case we face a team full of righties.
  16. Manager has to have a coke habit, right?
  17. Curtis Granderson gets a bench spot. Ortiz for DH, or is this an NL team?
  18. I wasn't talking about the rock god.
  19. Someone's looking to get their ass whooped.
  20. Carlos Santana for C.
  21. Are we doing the all time team or current players? Bc Cobb wants to manage the all time team and then stab them all to death.
  22. let's put together the all-swag team ss - jose reyes 2b - brandon phillips 1b - prince fielder lf - andrew mccutchen cf - nyjer morgan jimmy rollins and hanley ramirez should probably play first and third or something cc is the ace help me think of more. Matt Kemp can be moved to right. Is there a single black catcher in baseball? I really can't think of any. To be honest, Roy Campanella is the last one I can think of. benito santiago had swag Doug Mirabelli. Takes a lot of swag to catch a knuckleball.
  23. how much do you think these offers vary from one to the next? everyone keeps saying that the red sox want mcnutt and the cubs won't budge. do the red sox just fax pictures of mcnutt to the cubs all day and then the cubs send back pictures of their middle fingers? (i might not have taken negotiation theory, can you tell) Fax? Is it 1999 again? They're exchanging jib jabs, I'm sure. I didn't take negotiation theory either, but it's what I did almost all day for 6 years. It's hard to say if the offers are different if the report about guys Theo can bring is accurate. It may be a lot of gamesmanship. The cubs may be out talking to other teams about FO types that they'll be bringing in, esp if Theo isn't going to be the GM. I'm sure TR knows Theo's wish list for GM candidates.
