ND plays 4 true road games (including USC game). Kansas State plays 5 true road games (including Baylor). If USC was a one loss team, then that would have helped ND chances of overtaking Kansas State. Unfortunately, USC is a 3 loss team at the moment, and if USC loses to UCLA (assuming ND and K-State as well as Oregon staying undefeated) then that hurts ND, because then USC could be out of the top 25 at that stage. Could. Not to mention that Texas is now sitting at 15/18 and if they win their game before K-State game, they could be very much ranked higher. Not to mention that they are currently ranked higher than USC at this point (USC is at 21 on both the AP and Coaches polls) The reason why K-State gets a lot of love from the computers is because the Big XII is the 2nd best conference. Every team in the Big XII is at .500 or better, except for Baylor and Kansas. The weakest resume would have to be Oregon because their SOS does not match up well to Notre Dame or Kansas State. And the only teams that kept Kansas state close was Iowa State and Oklahoma. Other than that, Kansas State has won by two or more possessions in every of their games. ND has won 5 games that was decided by a TD or less. And there was no reason why ND needed three overtimes to be a lowly Pitsburgh Panther football team that they should have blown them out. Style points. I'll say this. If ND was in a conference, then that probably would have helped them much more than being a "Independent". Regardless, K-State does control their destiny for the BCS NC game. Win out, they're in. The Big 12 is overrated bc they play a cream puff OOC schedule that makes the SEC jealous. Without those terrible teams in the slate they wouldn't all be over .500. What's the best OOC win? Playing in Ireland isn't a road game? ND played games in Ireland, Michigan, Chicago and both the East and West coasts. You're going to tell me KSU had a more difficult time with travel? Fact is, ND's schedule was more difficult by any measure and they clearly played better against the 2 shared opponents. Throw in the 3 brutal teams that KSU has on it's schedule and you've got no argument. KSU controls their destiny bc the system is broken. Some writers and coaches voted ND 5th. They should lose their vote immediately.
