  1. I assume you’re talking about the second half kickoff? If we’re going to be sticklers, technically it should have been called an illegal forward pass if the ball is going to be considered live.
  2. They've spent maaaaaaybe $6-7 million give or take on like a dozen players and most of that is non-guaranteed. It's not wasted in a few ways: so much $/WAR potential, more MiL options, and all that non-guaranteed money helps build towards a more NFL-like future for players. Theo attacking on all fronts for the bosses! He's not quite Andrew Friedman, not sure anyone even has a shot to be, but Theo might be finding his footing as a broke young GMident just trying to make it under the bright lights of the big city Please do not take this as some sort of attack, but a legit question: How do you have fewer than 8,000 posts in five years? This is also like his 3rd different account.
  3. We could call him Reinal as a hat tip to the days of Rnny Ceen and Rey rnez.
  4. Take one guess what happened Oh, I messaged a buddy when I posted this and said I was wondering what creative way they’d come up with to blow it. I was not disappointed.
  5. Don’t look now, but Illinois is up 15 on #3 Maryland 2.5 minutes into the second half.
  6. Oh come on, how do you screw that up? There's only one I in Willson.
  7. Pretty concise and probably explains why guys like Mekkes and Giambrone got exposed It only says Rule 5 like 4 times in the blurb you posted. Did you go out of your way to type Rule V wrong on purpose?
  8. I’m not overly tech savvy, but maybe it was easier to get the video to a TV vs laptop off the camera they had set up? It looks like the TV was hard wired (wires hanging down from the ceiling) vs having to use WiFi or something from the camera to a laptop. Also maybe they felt they needed a bigger screen to get a better look at the catcher signals vs like a 12” laptop screen? I think it's more likely that they were too dumb to pull off what they they were trying to do without getting caught. Like, it's so hilariously high and low tech at the same time. There's no way they HAD to use a monstroso monitor or TV for this. Better yet, why don't you just have another feed of whatever else hooked up to it (Netflix, ESPN, whatever) that you can flip it to whenever there's not cheating going on?
  9. I also feel like they should just go hurry up all the time instead of giving him time to think. I just said the exact same thing to a buddy.
  10. Okay Donnie. :^o
  11. There are no $500 clues in Jeopardy Umm...yes there are? Nope. Not since like 2010 or something when they doubled everything. It's $200-$1,000 in round 1 and $400-$2,000 in round 2 now.
  12. I have no idea why Houston trotted Verlander out on short rest. No kidding. Starting him on short rest is a bad idea on its own but when you add in screwing up the rotation for the next series it’s even worse.
  13. Martinez blowing a kiss to Hamilton while on second base after bitching about respecting the game is peak Cardinal lack of self awareness.
  14. Eli was actually the one example I was able to find when I went looking for recent QBs who got significantly better after year 3 (this was right after week 1). Everyone else was basically who they were by year 3, if not year 2. alex smith Drew Brees?
  15. I agree with this. Maddon has some fault, but this mess isn't his doing. Anything less than Theo taking primary responsibility will be unacceptable. The only thing I want to hear him address in his end of season press conference is the mistakes he has made and what he plans to do to fix them. Maddon is almost certainly gone, but it is largely due to the mistakes that have been made above him. That partially includes ownership, but mostly lies square on the shoulders of Theo. I don't want to hear him place blame on anyone else. The players have proven they are who they are, and it is Theo who bought into them being better than that. I hope Tom Ricketts is furious, and he has every right to be. But does he really care, or is he counting his money and waiting for the new network to launch (which will very likely not even be carried by some of the major content distributors, Dish Network for example)? I generally agree with this, but the pen has been a huge issue and while part of that was Morrow related, I'm not sure who would have predicted that all three of Edwards, Strop, and Monty would completely forget how to pitch and be utterly useless all season.
  16. Relying on Reyes for anything is an exercise in futility. That dude will likely not make it through a season healthy until he’s over 30. He’s the new Brandon Morrow.
  17. Can we fire this turd into the sun yet? Last night was inexcusable bullpen use yet again.
  18. That all arguably applies to Castellanos, too, except against righties. I'd argue that there's a lot of unknown with Castellanos just with him not playing half his games in the cavernous Detroit park, especially with his penchant for doubles and fly balls that could turn into HRs.
  19. Stupid would be not recognizing that they were conceding the season and claiming that trading away a 5 WAR pre-arb player for nothing is "reorganizing." I'd argue the reasons for trading away Tommy Pham were a little different/worse than trying to parse between 'reorganizing' and 'rebuilding'. Yeah, he was brown and outspoken. Can't have that horsefeathers in Missourah.
  20. Those are some insanely rose colored glasses you're wearing. I'm also amused by the sudden faith in the team by many after a hot streak where they beat up on garbage teams. Living here as a Cubs fan is a weird deal.
  21. I know it’s going to happen. I’m resigned to it. But does average bat, great glove get you in the Hall now for catchers? What’s the difference between Molina and Jason Kendall, AJ Pierzynski, Benito Santiago and a half a dozen other similar catchers who aren’t in the Hall and have no chance to? Are we lowering the bar to 30 career WAR and being a good teammate on a WS winning team? Even if we assume that Molina is one of the best half-dozen defensive catchers of all time (a point I’m not conceding), he doesn’t hit nearly as well as Bench, Pudge, or Carter did. Molina is much closer offensively to the non-HoF defensive greats like Sundberg and Boone, the difference being that Molina had a slightly longer stretch of offensive adequacy. I’d argue that Molina is not the best catcher of his generation. That’s Joe Mauer even when excluding the numbers he racked up when he was primarily a 1b. Or Buster Posey if you want to expand the definition of generation a bit. Molina is basically on the same level as Russell Martin, trading offense for defense. I’d argue that Molina is not even the best catcher in Cardinals history. That’s Ted Simmons, who belongs in the Hall way before Molina does. That said, I know Molina is going to the Hall because a bunch of sportswriters say so, without much beyond anecdotal support for their reasoning. I’ve got six or seven years to get over it. I’ll be fine. I hate defending Yadi, but Fangraphs added framing to their defensive WAR and he's now the #1 defensive catcher of all time in fangraphs value, and over 50 career WAR, which is 13th best in MLB history for a catcher (3rd amongst his peers, less than 2 WAR behind both McCann and Martin). That's at least close to HOF worthy to me. Catcher WAR MLB History ETA: Framing stats start after 2002, so historical rankings probably shift somewhat, but those guys could be hurt just as much as they are helped by it, so he likely ends up in a similar spot. I'd be shocked if those don't get some revision at some point. There's no way in hell the guy added nearly 50% to his total value just from framing and there's other guys I certainly don't buy are losing as much as they did with that figured in.
  22. Yeah, I was all but checked out for at least a solid week before last night's hilarious loss. Now I'm 100%. Could not give less of a horsefeathers if they end up doing well, and pretty much hoping that this FO goes down in flames. Why are we rooting actively against our FO, the best we evet had and top 3 in baseball? Mostly because of their enabling of a domestic abuser and partially because the owners are garbage people who support awful things politically.
  23. I'm just more embarrassed about my reaction to it. I threw my remote against the wall and shattered it and kicked a box fan and dented it. :dontknow: I waited until after the single that broke the camel’s back to throw my remote.
  24. Soccer and ?????? Surely you're not suggesting that ice hockey has the same pace of play as soccer. SURELY it's even more irritatingly fast paced and low scoring Shouldn't you be trying to figure how to not give up over a run per inning when you're on the mound for the Reds?
  25. Outside of general inflation, Rizzo doesn't really deserve that kind of contract, because he's just not at Goldschmidt's level. I get that he might not want to hit FA at 34 (vs 32), so maybe you make it 6/110 or something like that. But Goldy was coming off a 5.1 fWAR year (after 5.2, 4.9, 7.2 the three years before that). Rizzo hasn't been above 5 since 2015, and we're potentially looking at two straight years under 4. You’re right, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he has his eyes set on that benchmark anyway. I’m sure he’s thinking this next contract will be his last shot at a huge payday. Maybe they meet in the middle but I think he’s gonna want to get paid regardless. I just don't see Rizzo as that kind of guy. He's got a different perspective than most because of the cancer scare and he's probably generationally wealthy already based on what he's made. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if he took a discounted deal to stay in Chicago. I'd expect either that or a total cut of ties when this deal is up.
