  1. That was an impressive performance from Illinois last night. They shot like horsefeathers, didn't get many opportunities from 3, and Iowa shot about as well as they could have expected to and in spite of all that, they absolutely dominated the second half of that game. I have no idea why the officials decided they needed to get as involved as they did in the second half, but when Van Gundy is commenting about how ridiculous the change in the way the game is being called, you know something weird is going on. I really believe Underwood learned something from the ass kicking they took against UConn a couple years ago. He had no answers to them taking away their primary plan in that game and I've seen him adjust a couple different times in this tournament. He's also done a good job of diversifying the types of players he brings in. Wagler was an incredible find that isn't likely to happen again, but you have a couple shooters, a couple guys who can get to the rim, a couple solid perimeter defenders and then throw all the size on top of it and it's a damn solid unit regardless of the style of play in any particular game.
  2. I really think the mid season injuries hurt them a lot more than people acknowledge. Between not having as many games played as a unit plus all the extra minutes guys like Wagler and Mirkovic played because of the lack of depth, I think they were just kind of gassed the last 1/3 of the season. Losing that first B1G tourney game allowed them some extra rest and practice and they've looked so much better. Last night was by far the best defensive effort from this team all year and I'm not sure anybody other than AZ has enough offense to beat them if they can keep up that level of intensity the rest of the way.
  3. I'm still baffled that St. John's owned them this year, won the Big East regular season and tournament, and still got seeded 3 spots lower than them. I've thought UConn was a fraud all year and Sparty definitely has the horses to take them down.
  4. 1. The last game Boyd pitched in that counted for the Cubs he went 4 2/3 innings, allowed 2 hits and no runs. 2. That HR Brown gave up was on a shoulder high FB that wasn't even a strike. If he gets consistently knocked around throwing pitches in that location, I'm not sure what anybody can do about it.
  5. Explorium in Milwaukee is doing a Milwaukee/Chicago mash up and serving a Chicago style brat. They have a taproom about a half mile from me and I'm definitely heading up there to try it tonight.
  6. Asking if the guy who finished 7th in MLB in DRS among SS is still capable of playing there is certainly not a question I'd spend much time pondering, but I suppose we need to create content somehow.
  7. Just ignoring a whole year of the contract makes all that math pretty moot. It's 6 years and doesn't start until next year, so there are 4 arb years being bought out.
  8. Why would they put opt outs in a contract like this when they have control of the player through the 2030 season regardless?
  9. I'll skip your opinions on calling things inaccurate just based on the fact that you missed the Cardinals winning the division the year before the Cubs with 85 wins when they won it with 83 in 2006.
  10. I'm not about to gripe about the job Underwood has done. He's gotten them to 6 straight tournaments and the last time that happened was Lon Kruger through the first few years of Weber (99-00 through 06-07). The only real disappointment in his tenure was the loss to Loyola, but they got screwed having to play a team that was way better than an 8 seed essentially as the road team. Last year should have been better but there's not much you can do about Jakuciounas getting hurt and not being 100% the last half of the season. I think he's gotten better as a coach as well. When they were struggling early Saturday, you saw an immediate shift to get Stojakovic in the game and he was clearly told to attack the rim at every opportunity and that strategy really opened things up the rest of the game. Subtle adjustment that made a huge difference.
  11. He should do exactly that and call Sampson a cheater while he does it. There may not be a coach I hate more in CBB than that guy, although Scott Drew is a close second. They're both just so damn slimy.
  12. The whole last 2 possessions were an absolute travesty. Why are you guarding the guy inbounding the ball? Why are you pressing when the only thing that beats you is a 3? Keep the ball in front of you and slow them down, forcing them to run an actual offensive set instead of essentially getting a fast break. Golden completely failed his team there.
  13. Absolutely. Santa Clara blew it by not fouling up 3 at the end of regulation. They do that and they're very likely moving on.
  14. I assume you're talking about SP and RP?
  15. That's exactly what ESPN/Lunardi thinks will happen and it feels reasonable to me too.
  16. Apparently Derosa thought they were already through to the next round regardless of the outcome last night. What a moron.
  17. Yeah, it was pretty clear by about 5 minutes into the game the refs were going to allow it to be a rugby match. The poor shooting from 3 was definitely a bigger issue though and like you said, I don't expect that to continue. I am concerned about Tomi though, he just looks a step slow and the 3s just haven't been falling for him at all lately.
  18. This is where I'm at. I think they're delusional if they think they're getting multiple first round picks when he's already 28, making a ton of money and likely will want to renegotiate his deal since Garrett and Parsons have signed since he did, and they have almost no leverage because of him saying he's done playing for them.
  19. That doesn't even make any sense. Hitters and catchers are challenging different things. Catchers challenge when a pitch in the zone is called a ball and hitters are challenging when a pitch out of the zone is called a strike.
  20. He's been doing a ton of west coast CBB games recently and it caught me by surprise how frequently I've turned a game on and he's doing it. Lot of Big 12 too.
  21. Unfortunately, the vast majority of tickets are way more than $29. My buddy was trying to find some last night and found one game on like March 31st that was priced that way and everything else was $65+.
