    This is an ideal scenario in my eyes. castro's value is at SS. so, not until he's old should we move him to third. If he hits for power at the rate he did in the 2nd half of the year, I'm not sure this is true considering the considerable depth the Cubs have in the minors up the middle.

    Why shouldnt it play a factor? Its not as if Epstein is more qualified than Beane, and he's way less realistic in the first place. Because nobody gives a [expletive] about a story line, they want a [expletive] world series you dolt.

    How many losses is too many (obviously you don't want any)? I have a hard time imagining over managing costing a team too many wins either. I would imagine that a bad manager probably messes up 2-3 situations a game (I made this up off the top of my head, no idea if it's even correct or not) and even when they mess up it doesn't always hurt him. I can't imagine those would cost a team games that often. Too me, I just want a manager who is playing the best players as much as possible (factoring in rest and what not) and managing a pitching staff the best he can. And then not having him screw up with player relations to the point that a good player demands a trade and won't play and what not. Even then though, the best players thing is controlled more by GM than on field manager. He's talking about a manager doing stupid crap like LaRussa did last Thursday when he brought in Motte after he had thrown 25+ pitches the night before and had been used like 3 of the last 4 nights and 12 times in 20 games when the Cards had a 4 run lead and you didn't need your closer at that point. That's a loss on the manager. Or Quade leaving Wells in for the 8th inning this weekend. Things that you almost know from the get go are a bad idea and the manager does them anyway.

    It's gotta be an obvious bad call if the Packer bung tongueing Fox crew are questioning it. That was just horrendous. And thanks NFL for having stupid rules so I only get to see the last 2 minutes of the game.

    That was my exact thought. This makes winning a division a lot more advantageous since the WC teams will have to burn their best pitcher available just to get to the 5 game series. I like it a lot.

    I went last night and it was glorious to heat the air just completely come out of the stadium when that ball cracked off Soriano's bat. And if anybody is down this way, I got $80 seats in about the 20th row on the 3rd base side last night for $30 each. I don't think there are any fans left down here that are interested in seeing LaRussa back next year. And hilarious to hear their idiot fans blaming Molina for getting thrown out on that contact play in the 2nd. Morans.

    It's not so much that the booze isn't as fun, it's that whole having responsibilities to deal with the next day and the fact that the recovery takes longer. There's very little chance I could go out and get tanked 2 mights in a row these days and that was the norm (if not 3 or 4) 10-12 years ago.

    A shot at Iowa basketball? That's kind of weak. First school that came to mind that hasn't won a regular season championship in a while, but won two conference tourneys. And hung a banner for them. Technically, aren't they conference champs since they get awarded the auto bid to the NCAA tourney?

    I was in the weight room at UW-LaCrosse with a buddy who is a Brewers fan. I'm pretty sure I got some strange looks because of my profanity laced reaction.

    Man, if he could be a legit 25 HR guy and Junior Lake or one of the other up the middle guys figures it out, that would be huge for being able to fill in some other holes after next year. Although if ARam gets signed, it won't matter much after next year.

    Probably more of a backup plan than leverage. Yeah, somehow they had room for both of them on the team this year. Well, considering Berkman's getting a $4 million raise and Pujols is looking at anywhere between a $6-14 million raise, that really doesn't have much to do with them affording them next year.

    The point isn't whether it will or won't result in an injury. The point is that these games mean nothing and it's an unnecessary risk to take because, in your own words, you don't know what the tipping point is going to be for a guy's arm to fall off. Is it likely that either one of them could have an issue as a result of a couple 120+ outings in September? Probably not, but why take the risk when there's literally zero to be gained from it. And just because somebody else did something in the past that didn't result in a bad outcome doesn't mean it wasn't the wrong decision. Whether Verlander was adversely affected by his long outings at the end of last year is immaterial. And using Prior as an example (or Wood, or Livan Hernandez or any of the other guy's arm destroyed by Dusty due to overuse) is perfectly relevant if you go look at the pitch counts coming down the stretch in 2003 and the injuries he's had since then.

    By the way KKG, your reading comprehension needs help. He was only citing starts and PCs over 120 in the month of September, so his numbers were accurate. I don't think a single 120 pitch game is a big deal, but after seeing what happened to Prior, it's pretty obvious that continued high pitch counts certainly do have a detrimental effect.

    I think grabbing Waters after he got cut by KC would have been a solid move. Not that the guards have been bad, but it would have been nice to have another guy playing his actual position.

    And considering that's been a repeated patter for him (struggle at a new level at first and then produce at a very solid level once he figures it out) I think that's at least somewhat encouraging. Now, if he goes to Iowa to start next season and rakes while taking some walks, I'll be a little more encouraged. At least as much as you can be by a guy doing well in the PCL.

    I don't understand this point. He was hurt by the fact that the Cubs were a scout heavy organization who mocked stats and wouldn't question what Hughes said? That does make sense. If the Cubs were more balanced in terms of using statistical analysis, Hughes insights could have been put to better use when combined with said statistical analysis. Not that it would have made him smarter, but it would have been a proper use of his skills, as opposed to the blindly going with whatever he had to say approach. Some of the guys he liked and may have been his 1a to the guy the Cubs picked may have been a smarter choice and the Cubs may have realized that if they were using multiple information sources. It's like Mike Martz as a head coach. Not a good idea. But, he can be a very useful part of an organization if he has some limits put on his "creativity".

    Yeah you will, they're on different channels. huh, strange. carry on. Not strange at all. NFC home games against the AFC are always on CBS. I think Butters will get it in Columbia, but we'll be blacked out in St. Louis, since it's a home game. Can they do that? It's the Fox national broadcast. If so, that BS.

Big Ten would be my first choice but I don't know how realistic it is right now. If SEC comes at us with an offer now, I would hope we'd take it instead of waiting around for a Big Ten offer that might not come. I'd probably feel differently in your shoes, but I feel like Missouri is the most obvious add for the bigx. I think I'd prefer to wait than join the sec where you'll get destroyed in fb and won't get the academic bump that you'd get if you were in the bigx. Yeah, the guy from Power Mizzou is a straight shooter who doesn't buy into rumor mill stuff from what I've seen. That is a double edged sword for Mizzou though. Do you chance being left out in the cold if things don't shake out the way you hope they do and there's no offer from the Big X or do you jump on the SEC offer and get your ass handed to you on a regular basis in football? Tough call without any of the inside knowledge I'm sure some of these university presidents are working with.
