  1. He would have helped support when Clint got pushed up top, but he doesn't do what Jozy does. I'm sure the experts can give a more detailed answer.
  2. Great drafts, excellent player development and wise FA spending can only keep you a contender for so long. Well, the pixie dust has worn off a bit and they've stopped hitting better than anyone in the history of ever with RISP, they've got 3 of 6 starters on the shelf right now and a bit of a depleted pen because of some recent short outings by the guys who are healthy, so yeah, you're pretty much right.
  3. I thought it was kind of funny. He knew he wasn't getting anything to hit, why wait around. Also, yay, we're winning!
  4. Messi has some pretty other worldly feet, but I generally agree with you. It's a game where so much depends on your feel for it and playing a lot as a kid with good coaching is really where a lot of that develops.
  5. I don't think it can be said enough times how badly we got our asses handed to us and how amazing Howard was to keep us in it. Just ridiculously amazing play.
  6. You think the guy calling out the rooftop owners is a tool? How so? Just general layweryness or what?
  7. Is Black still looked at as primarily a pen guy or has he changed any minds about that with his performance this year?
  8. Did we know this? http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/06/cubs-notes-bryant-schwarber-trades-samardzija.html
  9. He only threw 120 (6 more than his career high) and he's going to get an extra day of rest since they've got an off day this week. I'm not terribly worried about it. To be honest, as others said in the game thread, I was kind of glad they got a hit when they did so he didn't end up throwing 140.
  10. Manny probably told him to hit it over the fence this time.
  11. Arrieta is getting interviewed on MLBN: "After sucking for so long in the Orioles organization.........it feels good."
  12. Man, he is just relentlessly pounding the bottom of the zone.
  13. This is without a doubt my favorite one from that game. At no point is that thing anywhere near being a strike, but Bell just goes ahead and jacks at it anyway. The one where Alou walks away shaking his head is pretty good too.
  14. He just got screwed on what should have been strike 3 looking to Bogaerts.
  15. We wouldn't have Feldman if we had Tanaka. Wait, what? Feldman signed the year before Tanaka was posted. He means Hammel.
  16. What is this about? I was busy stuffing my face with Portillo's and missed it.
  17. Considering it was a regularly scheduled DH, would it not have made sense to line up the guy you wanted to make the start instead of just relying on whose turn it was by the time it happened? I think it worked out okay. They got 6 innings of 1 run ball from Beeler and got to see what he looked like against ML hitters.
  18. Well, geez, I guess he should hit more homers and will the Cubs to the playoffs so he can rack up meaningless cliches on his resume like Garza. Moron.
  19. Yeah -- I thought it was strange that Beeler started the other day over him, especially when Wada was just placed on the 40 man last week too. I think the consensus was that had to do with scheduled days to pitch more than anything else.
  20. I don't think it really matters at this point. Send him and let the manager in Iowa worry about it. Bring up Alcantara and maybe even Valaika or Watkins to get somebody with potential to hit in there instead of Barney. I've tired of his act.
  21. Screw around with his hitting approach and watch him struggle all year? I was more under the impression that they basically told Starlin to be Starlin this season and he's gone back to the player we knew and loved. I think they have told him that, but I think he picked up some valuable tools last season. His power has definitely come with him maturing and filling out, but I think his approach is a lot better than it was even in his best season. He's probably not ever going to walk a ton, but it looks to me like he's using a better approach to get himself into more favorable counts now. If he hits .290-.300 with an OBP of .340 and hits 20ish HRs every year, that's a hell of a valuable (and cheap) SS.
