  1. Were you watching a different game where he hadn't gotten 12/13 out?
  2. Man, if our pitchers ever get a BABIP correction, they won't allow a run for like a week.
  3. Wood had retired something like 12 of 13 hitters, was in the 80s for pitch count, and 2 of the first 3 hitters were left handed. He did exactly what he should have there. Yeah, there was nothing wrong with the decision. And only one of those balls was even hit very hard.
  4. What are the rules on UDFA contracts? Can there be bonuses based on starts/probowl/etc? I was wondering the same thing myself. I know there's a UDFA bonus pool that's pretty small, but does a contract like that have to come out of the rookie draft pool and if so, does just the guaranteed money count?
  5. Well, his ridiculous ERA/FIP split was noted, so I'm not surprised we got to him, but it's nice that it went as well as it did.
  6. The "fans actually watch the game" thing just makes me laugh. I got a free ticket to the Cards-Bucs game Saturday and there are just as many dumb girls there to be seen at Busch as there are at Wrigley, as I'm sure there are at just about every other ML park.
  7. I think he was stunned more than anything else. He recovered pretty quickly to make a couple solid saves right after it hit him.
  8. Can they go back and look at the hand pass on the face off at the end of the period and assess a penalty?
  9. Weird timing. Between picking up his option and winning a series, seems like they could have done it a little differently.
  10. Crow doing good work so far.
  11. Yeah, they've been unbelievably lucky thus far. The Pirates left like 18 guys on base before they got to extra innings yesterday. And there's no way their pen holds up with the lack of starters innings they're going to get out of the bag of crap replacing Wainwright.
  12. Well, at least the Cards pitching staff will be depleted when we get there. Heading to the 11th now and they haven't gotten much from their starters innings wise this weekend except for today.
  13. The first part of this makes me doubt you pay much attention to baseball at all.
  14. I wouldn't have a problem with because as others have said, between FA additions and an expected bounce from competent coaching, I think the defense will be serviceable this year and more good OL is always a good thing.
  15. Pat just said they burned Ramirez by announcing him and then went with Herrera.
  16. dego tee Jesus. I've never heard one called that either. I've heard it called a wife beater a million times, but never that. Must be an older Chicago area term, because I've heard my dad use it a bunch of times. I don't think it's meant to be offensive (which it clearly is), but it's apparently something that was used without much thought where my dad grew up (Elmwood Park, which was about 50/50 Irish/Italian when he was growing up).
  17. Is it just me or does it look like he's aged a bit over the past few months? A lot of wrinkes around his eyes. Prolly from all the smoking.
  18. I'm laughing much harder than I should at a stupid squirrel gif.
  19. Nope, he's a catcher. If he were in any other org, then yes, he would be a LF/1B/DH. Thing is, we have a 1B, can't have a DH and most likely will need LF for Bryant. It's in our best interest to make him a catcher. Bryant seems to be handling 3B just fine. I'm very slightly concerned about the amount of time he takes to get rid of the ball and the potential for the yips to develop. It's probably irrational, but it's in the back of my mind every time he does that really long pause/wind up to throw it to first.
  20. Damn, pretty young too.
  21. I'm not all the way through this yet, but nothing in here about Whitlock has surprised me yet. http://deadspin.com/how-jason-whitlock-is-poisoning-espns-black-grantland-1698683962?utm_campaign=socialflow_deadspin_twitter&utm_source=deadspin_twitter&utm_medium=socialflow
  22. Pretty bold statement considering what happened five days ago: DATE OPPONENT RESULT IP H R ER HR BB SO 04/22 vs CHC W 4-3 5.2 6 1 0 0 2 5 Yeah, well, they took care of Leake and Desclafani the second time around so I wouldn't be so confident if I was you.
