It should be awfully good. They do think Estrada is a better hitter than he really is, though. And Hardy should be hitting 7th or 8th, not 2nd.

I don't have a 2006 Baseball Prospectus with me, but Beyond the Box Score referred to Cedeno's 2006 projection as "pessimistic." Maybe Craig is thinking of the Bill James projection?

I know it turned out deadly for the Cubs the last two years, last year when Cedeno didn't come close to his PECOTA, and two years ago when DuBois didn't come close to his PECOTA. PECOTA wasn't really big on Cedeno, IIRC. But if you look at the totality of projections, it's been very accurate with rookies in recent years. No projection system can be 100% accurate, but PECOTA bested every other projection system for hitters last year.

If they trade Jones, your getting rid of 25 HR's and around 80 RBI's to that already stacked lineup...Its pointless..He's already our best outfielder,Pie will upgrade the D, thats about it, He's only 22, There is no point in rushing him. That's what he did last year. You can't take a player's stats from last year and pencil them in for this year. Felix projects to be an almost identical hitter to Jacque this year and a much better fielder. I'm just going by Jones average stats,You know he's good for around atleast 20 HR's and 70+ RBI's..Has been having a real good ST too..You actually think Pie in his first year is going to come close to Jones stats? No way..He's got Jones way beat defensivley..But it's hard to even imagine one year in the big leagues that he would put up similar numbers to Jones. PECOTA projects Pie to have a few points on Jones in OPS this year, and PECOTA has been deadly accurate in recent rookie projections. I'm not saying the Cubs should get rid of Jones, but it's not a given that Jones would give them more production in the present, so if the right deal were to come along, they should seriously consider it.

Yup. Some that don't take throwing into account had Pierre as the best CF in baseball last year. Dewan's method, that does account for throws from the outfield, had Pierre as third-best in 2006.

Going by Dewan's Fielding Bible, Jones is one of the worst outfielders in the game. Yeah, but Dewan's take on Jacque isn't corroborated by MGL, Dial, etc. My guess is that he doesn't properly account for the strange RF dimensions of the Metrodome. I have a lot more faith in Dewan's rankings for middle infielders than I do for corner outfielders.

He'd have a decent career as a pitcher if he could learn to throw a good screwball, cut fastball, or circle change. It's amazing to me that he's played as long as he has and still hasn't developed a pitch to challenge left-handed batters.
