  1. I'm guessing that's a terribly misguided rip on Cano. Yankee Stadium - .315 .374 .553 .927 "Away" Stadium - .346 .402 .573 .975 He's pretty good. I'm aware, it was a joke. I do think his value is a bit askew though as he hits in a hitters park and in the best lineup in the world. Yankee Stadium actually played as a pitcher's park last year despite the homeruns.
  2. And I guess the sun wasn't Theriot's fault either? ;)
  3. Yeah, being paid millions of dollars to be a major league player would suck rocks if you were a DH. He's being paid millions of dollars in any event. Being a DH would suck a lot more than not being a DH. i dh'ed in high school and loved it. i just hung out in the cage the whole time, casually taking bp until some wiener junior high kid or whatever came down to tell me i was almost up to bat. That was just cause nobody on the team wanted to sit near you. cuz smelled funny and inexplicable stains
  4. The question now is: Perfect game or just a no-hitter?
  5. His caught stealing percentage is lower than Soto's, and he has more passed balls in fewer innings, but other than that, he's an awesome defensive catcher.
  6. So you're not good at fantasy baseball?
  7. Gotta have our best defensive catcher in the game to prevent stolen bases, dude.
  8. Neither one of those pitches were really even close to being strikes.
  9. Jay Bruce is sitting tonight. Miguel Cairo is the DH. DUSTY! :D
  10. I guarantee that the reason Colvin is leading off is because Kazmir has a massive reverse split so far this year, and lefties are OPSing 1.000+ against him. Nevermind that, as I stated a few posts ago, partial-year platoon splits are not at all predictive. Over the past three years, righties have hit Kazmir much better than lefties. Is it just me, or do the Cubs only pay attention to the wrong stats?
  11. You're kidding with that today, right? Meh, can't be much worse than Theriot at this point. Theriot is posting a whopping 595 OPS vs leftys this year. Not that I'm a fan of Lou's manlove for Theriot, but partial-year platoon stats are almost completely nonpredictive of future performance. It takes about three years of platoon splits to be able to predict future platoon splits with any accuracy. BP has done some work on this in the past, and Tango/MGL study it in The BOOK, IIRC.
  12. Hill would have hit a homerun. Or at least a triple.
  13. As an optimist, I prefer to think of the park as half full. I just tuned in and noticed Soto is playing. Did Hill get hurt?
  14. Oh, Jesus, God, no. He was right about Aramis for Cesar Izturis. I think we all see that now.
  15. Cue the first pitch groundout to the shortstop his first at-bat. ](*,) Cue the double play if Fukudome gets on in front of him. Theriot is hitting into double plays in 20% of his opportunities, good for #15 in baseball among players with 150 or more plate appearances.
  16. over Bako? Blanco would do a better job of bridging the gap between the Latino players and the lily-skinned Theriot types.
  17. Neifi Perez played the game the right way. I'd take him over Sandberg. Or, since most managers are former catchers, how about Henry Blanco?
  18. At least the article mentions (albeit in passing) that corked bats don't help hitters at all. Yes, MLB hitters think corking helps. No, it doesn't help. Yes, if a batter corks, his intention is to get an advantage, even if it doesn't work. RE: Sammy Sosa He meant to cheat, but by corking he was actually hurting his own cause. In all the sensationalistic ESPN coverage, I never heard mention of the fact that MLB actually commissioned a physics professor to study corking. MLB knows it doesn't present an advantage, but there's still a rule against it anyway. Corking is just as irrelevant as pine tar.
