  1. Well thank you for taking the time to present your reasons. This is a philosophical choice here: do you want to try and be .500 and win a crappy division and most likely be a first round elimination (lets face the fact that the cardinals were extraordinarily lucky) or do you want to build a team that will dominate a crappy division for years? I choose B. While I agree that this is unlikely to happen due to the lame-duck GM, the money spent and other factors, the move would make perfect sense to build a winning team. And this is where we agree, 100%. Yes, I'd rather build a team that will dominate for years, and not a fluke. But with Hendry at the wheel, I prefer the "get it done now" approach, cause that's about all he can do - spend $$$. Plus, I'd be terrified to discover what kinda prospects we'd get in return for Lee - keeping in mind the guy operating the transaction thinks Neifi Perez and Izturis are good.
  2. We got Izturis in exchange for Maddux. We couldn't get crap for Jones. You guys and your pipe dreams have us unloading the 1st of June, in 2nd place in a horrid division that could very easily be won with a .500 record. If the Cubs got hot for a mere 10-12 games they could be in first place at the moment. The thought of selling Lee at the moment is absurd. We've got enough prospects that can't get the job done. Besides the fact that given the $$ that was put into this team in the offseason, there's definitely not gonna be any selling of Lee - it makes ZERO sense.
  3. The dumbest thing I've read on this messageboard.... is the post you just wrote ? Hmmm....nope, sorry...I don't think so. You're a moron if you think the selling Lee is gonna make the Cubs any better. No personal attacks. He was referring to your post, not you personally. Your calling him a moron is a personal attack. Sorry partner. I was in the process of editing the post to remove the moron portion as you wrote your post.
  4. The dumbest thing I've read on this messageboard.... is the post you just wrote ? Hmmm....nope, sorry...I don't think so. You seriously think selling Lee is gonna make the Cubs any better? 1. Hendry's track record has PROVEN he knows nothing about prospects, so you'd be getting crap in return. 2. Any decent prospect we did get in return would get ruined in our farm system.
  5. The dumbest thing I've read on this messageboard....
  6. While I fully comprehend the pessimism on this board, why in the hell would we be "sellers" in 2nd place and 5 games back from first and it's still May! It's not like the Brewers have ran off with anything the last couple weeks, either.
  7. I don't understand the obsession with trading Z & "fill in the blank" to the Halos for Wood and Santana. Santana's #'s this year would be far worse than anyone in our rotation at the moment, and Wood has been awful this year at AAA Utah. I like Wood, however, I think they're both overrated prospects. If there's not better options out there, we oughta keep Z.
  8. According to that article, he says he HASN'T been throwing 97-98 mph, but he thinks he can still get batters out.
  9. If Miller is our 5th man in the rotation, we just took a major step backwards. I don't have a clue what that soft tossing righty could offer the team aside from a loss.
  10. Exactly. You don't let a pitcher that good walk, and leave you with a rotation full of question marks. I DO, however, think Rich Hill will be the man for years to come - but he needs somebody of equal caliber to compliment him on this rotation.
  11. Have you seen his walk rate? That's not a good sign of continuing health. It's always something, isn't it? He's not perfect, but you're gonna let Z walk because he's been the epitome of an ace throughout his career, he's young, and doesn't have a history of injuries? You wanna take a gander at what this rotation would look like without Z?
  12. I don't understand the rationale of letting Z walk. He has no history of injuries. The argument that he's logged alot of innings and would more than likely not hold up in the future is B.S. There's been lots of pitchers that threw hard and racked up alot of innings injury-free. Why would we let our ace walk? Why would you give up one of the top three pitchers in the NL the last three years? I, for one, don't want to watch this rotation without Z.
  13. We've already scored those two runs in the first inning. Hope we don't go 26 more innings without a run...
  14. I'm in the same boat. I see the Cubs' main competition being the Brewers, not the Cardinals, nor the Astros. I agree completely.
  15. I'm guessing they're gonna go with Durbin for a little while...
  16. You really think so? Only Howry and Eyre are proven RPs. Dempster could return to form and I think that he will. But everyone else is mediocre, not to mention Cotts who is dreadful and Wood who is always hurt. Nope, the BP is a weak spot. The bullpen isn't a weak spot. Maybe not the best in the league, but definitely not a weak spot...
  17. I'd take my chances with Hill anyday of the week over Burnett.
  18. I was at the Braves game - he was getting booed by the 3rd...it wasn't a pretty sight.
  19. If Dave Duncan couldn't fix him, Rothchild sure as hell isn't. Duncan AND Mazzone.
  20. puke :-& This signing blows if indeed true. Living in St Louis, I can tell you that the problems Marquis is having is not within his mechanics - he's a head case. For a couple million bucks, he'd be worth the risk. But for this kinda $, I would've much rather seen the kids battle out a spot.
  21. Exactly! If he was a "head case", I'd take my chances. However, I think his lack of success is a result of being stubborn and/or stupid. Wouldn't be stubborn/stupid fall into the head case department? Actually, when I think of a "head case", I think of lack of concentration, inabilitly to perform under pressure, a mental block, etc. If you're stubborn you refuse to listen to good advice...which coincides with stupidity.
  22. Exactly! If he was a "head case", I'd take my chances. However, I think his lack of success is a result of being stubborn and/or stupid. And Goony, you're right, Duncan DID turn him around for a couple years.
  23. Ditto. I, too, live in Stl, and I don't want to take any chances with Marquis. If Duncan couldn't fix him, forget about it. He's stubborn, 100% unpredictable, and has a major problem keeping the ball down - which is the only way he succeeds.
  24. I would enjoy a copy of this game as well..... The infamous Sandberg game was one of the more memorable games I've attended in my lifetime! :D
