  1. This is without a doubt the dumbest thread I've seen on NSBB. I want the Cubs to not make the playoffs this year because I'm a Diehard Cubs fan and I want them to have better teams in the future? I want to see the greatest Cubs team of all time - I want to see the Cubs field a winning team every year. Whatever...who doesn't? I'll take a Cubs team that isn't the greatest lineup in the history of baseball, but takes advantage of a crappy division and gets hot during the postseason bringing a World Series back to the Northside after 99 years.
  2. I wonder if one more is gonna hurt anybody...
  3. Why did we downgrade our rotation to rely on Steve Trachsel every 5th day during the last month of the season when we are attempting to make the playoffs? This makes ZERO sense!!
  4. I think the Z-bashing response due to his booing comments may be the most narrow-minded bashing I've seen on this forum. You guys love his fiery-ness and emotions on the mound when he's winning, but you've gotta take the bad with the good. In scenarios where he's struggling, you're gonna logically get some negative emotions. I also fail to see any reason to bash him because he's lost a few games since signing a big contract. The guy isn't perfect and he's not always gonna be lights out. As his past #'s have shown, he goes through bad months and extremely good ones throughout a season. He's going through a bad stretch, yet I'm confident he'll turn it around and help this team get into the postseason. It also seems Z has a history of turning these negative scenarios into positiveness on the mound - so maybe we should be thankful for his little blowup.
  5. Lincecum does throw a changeup. Bedard throws a fastball, slurve and a changeup. Dontrelle got by generally using two pitches because of his deceptive delivery - and the D-train has since derailed, posting a 5.12 era this year. Willis also mixes in a changeup with his fastball and slider. Although people refer to Hill as "two pitch Rich", I think he does a great job of changing speeds, keeping hitters off balance, and occasionally drops his arm slot down to fool them. I think Marmol could be a decent starter, yet an excellent reliever. Why would we remove a quality arm from our bullpen, when this is the first bullpen we've had in quite some time that didn't royally blow. And if good middle relief is so easy to find, how come we never find it? I'd rather have an above average bullpen to keep us in games (look how many games we lost the first part of the year with a turdy pen).
  6. http://www.firejoemorgan.com/ 'nuff said. I like to keep a pen and paper handy when Morgan is announcing a game so I can tally up all the blatant stupidities that spew from his fat mouth. Sometimes I can't write fast enough. Even stuff as simple as this, which occurred on Sunday night: "Yeah...uh.....Jones was out by at least five steps." And as these magical words of dumbdon leave his mouth, a replay shows Jacque barely making 2 steps after the ball was caught before reaching the bag. Another of my favorites is how he swears the "K-zone" is more accurate than the umpire behind the plate.
  7. Actually nothing like Bo Hart. Bo Hart saw more than twice as many AB's in his fluke season - Theriot's #s last year could be attributed to a small sample size. Also, Bo Hart's #'s the following year were not even in the same ballpark as Theriot has been this year.
  8. I'd offer every prospect the Marlins wanted in exchange for Miggy.
  9. Of perform to their potential? Duncan has shown time and time again he can get the most out of questionable veteran starters. I don't think it has anything to do with magic or luck, he just knows how to get the job done. I think both above their potential and to their potential. Duncan is a stellar pitching coach, no doubt. I'm more amazed at the production they get out of their bats, though.
  10. For the record, I think it's more TLR and Duncan than luck, though. They have a magical way of getting players to perform above their potential. It's pretty remarkable.
  11. I said I'm not going to list them. It'd be a gigantic waste of time to look up all these stats trying to illuminate the obvious facts you seem to be in the dark about. As for Nunez, I never said the Cardinals haven't gotten lucky with players. I just said the Cubs have too. It took me about 15 seconds to check the stats of each player you were incorrect in naming. It's not that difficult. Not even 1/4 of the players you mentioned were justifiable, as they had equally (if not better) seasons with other teams.
  12. Those aren't excuses, you can check their stats. Let's hear your excuses, then.... Starting with...Nunez? We follow a poorly run team, and you follow a lucky team...
  13. It's sad to us because it's so ridiculous how this keeps happening. You can feel free to come up with counter-examples from our own team though. Matt Clement, Joe Borowski, Sammy Sosa, Jon Lieber, Mark Bellhorn, Ryan Dempster, Michael Barrett, and I'm sure many, many more. don't forget aramis ramirez And year one of the Glendon Rusch era. More than cancelled out by Years 2 and 3. (That's our own fault, by the way. Stupid Hendry.) Ok, Derrek Lee, Ted Lilly, JASON MARQUIS, Matt Murton, Jacque Jones, Eric Karros, Mark Grudzielanek... Marquis has had equally good years with the Cards, Jones' best years were with the Twins, Grudzie has had equally good years with the Dodgers, Royals and Cardinals. And mentioning DLee and Lilly is a joke.
  14. The following should be excluded from you list: Sosa (makes no sense because damn near his entire career was with the Cubs), Lieber (has had quality seasons with Pitt, Yanks & the Phillies), Bellhorn (which season with the Cubs was any good?), Dempster (he had one great season with Florida, and he may very well have had other quality seasons if he was removed from his starter role before joining the Cubs).
  15. They've got nice young Of'ers in Bourn (currently on the DL) and Werth to replace Burrell.
  16. The runs scored and runs scored against stats play heavily against the Cards going anywhere this year. I predict at the end of the year the Cardinals will have a record closer to the Pirates than the Brewers or Cubs.
  17. This team is definitely capable of making it to the postseason, and I don't see how anybody could say they aren't. Hell, the Cardinals are capable of making it to the postseason, and they're 6 games back and look awful on paper. Anything can happen. The Cubs have a couple obvious holes, however, those holes may not be big enough to prevent us from winning in a sub-par division. For us to keep this pace up, we're gonna need a second half suprise from Murton/Pie/Etc.
  18. I have a few friends who are Sox fans, and they can't stand Pods...
  19. I watch all the Cardinal games, as I live in the St. Louis area. Over the years I have heard some of the dumbest s#*t come outta the Mad Hungarian's mouth. Last night I actually thought Buck and Al were tolerable, and they did a good job in the later innings giving the Cubs props and acknowledging the suckdom currently facing the Cardinals. It's definitely ironic they were making an issue of Z's reactions on the mound - fidgeting, sighing, etc... As EVERY game that Wells has pitched this year that's all they talk about - complaining about how uncomfortable he looks on the mound, fidgeting, etc. Yet they didn't mention anything about Kip last night!! Be thankful you didn't have to listen to Mike Shannon during the game...
  20. Nope. Just off the top of my head, Larry Walker has to have more than Stairs. Yeah, about 150 more I think. He was close to closing in on 400.
  21. Living in St. Louis, I heard the same thing today. No definitive, though. I know he's getting opinions from a few different doctors, one of which is James Andrews, so it doesn't sound good at this point.
  22. Are they moving Gallardo to starter and Parra in the pen? For some reason, I was under the impression they were keeping Gallardo in the bullpen. I believe they are moving Gallardo back to the rotation and will use Parra for long relief.
  23. Gallardo is a stud. Hopefully he'll have some rookie ups n' downs... Sheets is only supposed to be out for 2 weeks, though. "Sheets (sprained finger) had an ultrasound done on Tuesday that revealed only a partial tear of tissue near the tendon, which means he shouldn't miss much more than the minimum two weeks, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel" "Sheets was expected to miss anywhere from two to six weeks, depending on the damage to the ligament. The two week projection is good news to the Brewers and fantasy owners. Any injury to the pitching hand is still cause for concern, though, and it will be tough to predict how Sheets will pitch once he comes off of the DL"
  24. I'd love to take a chance on Greinke. He's still got a very high ceiling as a starter, just hasn't quite put it together yet. He started the year in Spring Training very solid. Then began the year in the Royals rotation and had two excellent starts - then had a couple poor starts - then shutout Minnesota for 7 innings - then two more poor starts and they threw him in the bullpen. He's been pretty solid in the pen as both a long man and late-inning guy. He's got electric stuff. He's still young, so I still think there's plenty of time to get him straightened out for a rotation spot. I also think maturity will aid Zack in dealing with his mental illness, resulting in more consistency in a rotation spot.
