I just feel like many people in Illinois cherry picked the Cardinals because they are nearby and win a lot. I find it rather annoying. It's ok if you don't. A lot of people in Southern Illinois probably picked the Cardinals because of proximity. I think that is much more of a factor than where the state lines are, or some notion that because you live in a state it means you have to be a fan of teams within it. If some yokel from Belleville or Centralia or something is a Cards fan, I don't the controversy. Me either, but why the hell did they do that only in baseball? Why not football also? I understand where you're coming from, Illini, because I know plenty of Chiefs/Cardinals fans and Bears/Cardinals fans and a fair amount of Packers/Cardinals fans Cowboys/Cardinals fans and 49ers/Cardinals fans. What you have to understand is that many people my age (24) and older had favorite football teams before the Rams came into town. Now, if you jumped on the "bob-and-weave" bandwagon and then jumped back to your team when the wheels came off, I think that's weak. And many have done that. But I do think there is something to what Illini is saying. For instance, Mizzou has zero national championships in anything. The fan support is just not there. There are way too many fans of Kentucky, Kansas, UNC, Duke and all the SEC schools (because everybody thinks they're "southern"). In general, Cardinals fans are front runners outside of their support for the Cardinals. But to say that MET is one because he likes the Bears and Cardinals is hard to support. Yeah I shouldn't just assume MET is that way. But good lord am I around a lot of that here. KU basketball, STL cardinal, KState football, and Chicago bulls fans here are common. So frustrating.
