  1. I was watching the game last night on my phone at work, heard Len say it and, like many others here, it hit me way harder than I thought possible for someone I never actually met. Cancer really horsefeathering sucks and life can really be shitty. I really wish Fred could have held out for at least a few more months. I hope he has good seats now. Thoughts and prayers with you and your family CubmanPi. It is fitting that we beat the Cardinals for him last night though, I am sure he would have liked that.
  2. We are all still waiting for IMB's dong that we were promised.
  3. Lol, they are covering their mouths with a mic in the huddle.
  4. I mean I get this game doesn't mean much, but since we gave away a pretty nice prospect for a few months of Aroldis, it would be neat if we actually used him in some high leverage situations.
  5. Does Joe know that Chapman is a rental?
  6. They have a AAA team right? I mean the 2006 Cubs gave starts to guys like Marmol, Juan Mateo, Les Walrond, Ryan O'Malley, Jae Kuk Ryu, Wade Miller and Jerome Williams. None of them worked out, but at least they got a good look at Marmol and turned him into a quality reliever. Maybe that would have happened without auditioning him, but it certainly didn't hurt him. Point is that there is absolutely no future with Jered Weaver and the Angels season has long since been lost. I'm sure there's a AAA pitcher that's worth looking at, or a Brian Matusz out there. At least those options have a non-zero chance of impacting the organization in the future. Plus without that rotation, no Josh Vitters. Wait, I did that wrong...
  7. I want to say yes, I assume a healthy Wood and Prior for the next 5 years produce a lot more memories. But, who is to say they stay healthy then, plus it's hard to think about giving away the memories of the '03 postseason. I get some people are over him, but the name Mark Prior will always be sad and missed opportunity to me. I am glad he was able to come to peace with his career. Had to be a difficult process.
  8. I just want to know who he would rather have. Joe isn't perfect, but he might be the perfect guy for this team.
  9. Walk off walk!!! Oh wait, umpires and human element.
  10. I love how that little call totally changed the outlook of this game.
  11. They have been all year anyways, being that they're all hurt.
  12. That's the coolest part. He didn't NEED to. Scissors was still on the bench. Yeah, he did basically...otherwise he runs out of pitchers AND position players(if he used the 1 guy he had left at that point) before we get a chance to win it in the 12th. Just look around our division at the managers, now, be glad we have who we have.
  13. I think my favorite is a lesser known game. It was on my bday in 2003 and Z hit a three run bomb off of Wade Miller to beat them(we were down 2-0 late). Not quite as big of a comeback, but pretty improbable. Didn't we have a decent sized comeback vs the cards in 03? I drank a lot of that last half of the season, lol. I feel like we did during the Alou game on the ball that went foul, but was clearly fair and still lost.
  14. The aram game vs the brewers in 07 was a 5 run comeback. Seems in most years good teams have a kick ass comeback The Aramis game is probably my favorite. Because, at the time, I wasn't sure how real that team was. And the stakes were certainly very high. Not only did we win in spectacular fashion, but it ramped up my excitement level for the whole season. I think my favorite is a lesser known game. 15. No, not at all like Baker and Piniella before him. EXACTLY like them(not in "style"). I was on the ESPN board,s and then here during those times...some of the very same types thought neither one of them could do no wrong their first few years based on "intangibles" and reputation/past records etc.. Maddon was a complete hack again tonight, and got his ass bailed out by dumb luck. lol @ managing yourself out of position players by the end of the 10th inning and NEEDING to put a pitcher in LF AGAIN. But, he didn't have to do it. He did it to optimize the time when he could use Szczur as a hitter. Plus he also then used Wood again later when the lefties all came up. I feel like you are stretching here, big time...
  16. The aram game vs the brewers in 07 was a 5 run comeback. Seems in most years good teams have a kick ass comeback I knew I was forgetting one, good call.
  17. Next 9 the Cardinals have Reds, Braves, Reds. Need to keep pilling up wins.
  18. I remember the Astros comeback in '89 and the Rockies in '08. This has to be third I think though, that I remember in my lifetime.
  19. Like Baker and Piniella before him... What in the world? Lenny Harris is the all time pinch hit king, you gotta pitch to Mike Lowell, dude..lol
