    Well, to be fair to Buck, it is a pretty disgusting act. and i'm sure he thought the same thing about taverez's half wool, half pine tar hat. Nope old Joe thought that was a throwback to the good old days.

    I did too. Oh well I at least think we are going in the right direction. Plus Zook gets a good recruit each week, hopefully he stays away from Weber. He's the right guy for that program. From what I saw at Florida, he's a great recruiter but a fairly lousy game coach. At a school like Florida, that won't fly. But Illinois' major deficiency was talent, and Zook is making big strides in addressing that problem. Think he could recruit basketball players?

    Luck has maybe a little to do with it. They have just been a whole lot better than the Cubs for the better part of the last 10 years. I'm not disputing the fact that the Cards have been better than the Cubs. But they are lucky. Somehow, they have this keen ability to pick up pieces of crap and have them perform. And just to add insult to injury, they immediately go to that Tommy Lasorda/Cub fan in a tree commercial. At least it wasn't Gary Bennett.
