  1. I hope you are right, the compensation picks are the only thing that keeps the Yankees from dominating baseball though. Now they will have the best prospects and players.
  2. I still get really angry whenever people bring up 2004. Remember when this team was ahead in the WC and merely needed to take down the Reds and Mets, who were at the time basically AAAA teams due to injuries and trades? Ugh, ugh, ugh, ugh. I HATED the way that season ended. Yeah with Stoney telling us, don't worry folks we are gonna be in the playoffs again. I knew when Diaz and Brenzell jacked us after Prior pitched great we were folding.
  3. I hope you mean 2004. 2003 was great, sure it ended in a crappy way, but the journey was great. '04 though was just depressing, all that talent only to have the Astros pull it off with the Beltran trade.
  4. So if Ramirez was to walk, would we then get compensation through the draft for him? If so isn't his actually what we should want? I mean odds are we won't really compete with him here(as long as Hendry is running things) so why not hope he and Pierre both leave and stock the picks?
  5. Right thats what I was thinking. I am hoping this year we pick a hitter with our first pick. I realize a lot of this is moot if we don't change the philosophy within the system of walks are bad. that goes right down to the draft - hopefully the cubs pick some hitters with baseball skills and not just tools. How does one identify these traits in high school hitters? I mean one could argue a talented player would never need to walk at all in highschool and still be very, very productive. Maybe that hitter has plate discipline, but is just so overtalented it is hard to see. Ala CPATT.

  7. I love following and going to minor league games. With the way our system has regressed recently I wonder, how long would it take to get our minor league system back up to the level that it would take to sustain a competitive team? Is it a quick 2-3 year fix? Or is it a process that would take the better part of a decade?
  8. Yeah, I'm aware that Zito's perceived value is that high, but Sulley was saying it was justified. it's justified because his kind do not become available every day, you know. i don't see any other pitchers besides schmidt and mussina that we can add to our rotation that really add anything that our rookies can't. Agreed, add into that the switch to the much easier national League and i think you can see why Zito would be a huge get for us.
  9. I disagree, we actually are lucky that we kept drafting pitchers. I would think most teams would be interested in Gallagher, Veal, and Pawelek. That and with the guys in front of Pie getting the call I would say he might be top 20 in all of baseball. last time i heard, pawelek was pitching out of the bullpen. You heard wrong. no, i didn't. He just started game one of their playoff series and pitched great, his best outing as a pro. If that is out of the bullpen some of our starters should try it. i said: "the last i heard", which was true. Ok, but I don't think you should try to answer a prospects worth as of this time if the last time you "heard" about him was two months ago. I would say Pawelek made some very nice progress and might even be ready to start next season at high A.

  12. Pie and Veal are probably in the top 50 of all of baseball after this season. yep, and that package could be easily beaten. by whom?

  14. No why should he? He's got 5 mil a year for two more years. Thanks Jim.
  15. If by "group," you mean the front office, then I agree. If you mean the players, I disagree. They didn't quit on anything; they just aren't very good. Dusty quit in sept '04.
  16. more time to flirt What would his beloved julie say?
  17. I think I'd prefer having him in AAA and maybe move McGehee around or have him be the major league utility man. Moore defnitely has a higher ceiling and a little bit of a K problem he could use some work on. Moore strikeouts: 2003: 110 in 107 games 2004: 125 in 118 games 2005: 134 in 128 games 2006: 115 in 114 games If he's going to work on that, he'd better start soon. His BB/K, BB/G and K/G ratios have been remarkably consistent the past four years. I think the numbers suggest he is what he is - a guy who will walk some but will also strike out about once per game. Any similar big leaguers that have some value?
