  1. Well he has been in trouble twice this year before this came out. Once for fighting with a teammate, once for missing a game for familiy reasons, then this. I would assume it is just three strikes he is gone and nothing major. But, since no one has came out and said the main reason yet, it is just an assumption.
  2. Wow. I know when he was at UW-Milwaukee and a lot of people wanted him to replace Alford, those in the know suggested that Jim Delaney would do his best to make sure he didn't come back to the Big Ten. I think Exile is probably right though. When Alford left he supposedly put out feelers and told those he still talked with in Iowa City that he would be willing to listen. Of course everyone knew there was no way he was leaving Tennessee. Barta called and got permission which appeased Iowa fans wanting him and he respectfully turned it down publicly which makes him look good. He doesn't mind using the media to help himself out. Yeah, I am thinking he might be using it as a ploy to get more money from Tennessee. Plus it never hurts your recruiting to get your name out there. Either way I can't see IU making that move. They have to make a very safe hire with this one.
  3. Anyone else hear on Gottliebs show last night when Bruce Pearl said that Indiana is a dream position? He also said he would be honoring his contract at Tennessee, but it is definately something for IU to think about.
  4. Son of a. I heard he had some problems. So what now, probably a transfer to a new school? !4-15 year old kids who have been pimped to be the next great thing, usually never turn out well. Its a hell of a lot of pressure for a kid that age to handle. I believe per Illinois rules he has to move to a different school district now in order to not forfeit his junior year of eligibility. Not a good situation at all.
  5. Jereme Richmond, Illinois star recruit for 2010, was kicked off of his high school team today.
  6. The Cavs have LeBron James. I think they will make do. He was awesome again tonight. Does that guy ever have a bad game?
  7. Anyone who thinks those kids won't play tonight are crazy. IU waited to decide until they were through the tough part of their schedule. Once through, then they made their decision. They are trying to win a conference championship, those kids will play.
  8. How can you play half of them now after they skipped practice?
  9. I feel bad for IU fans. They don't deserve this mess. At some point Kelvin Sampson needs to think about the kids and tell them to play out the year. Especially since he made a point at the MSU game talking about how this is all about the kids anyways. If Sampson doesn't convince the players to continue playing I will lose all respect for him. No way the players should give up this season for any coach. IU still has a good chance to win the Big Ten and some games in the tournament. This isn't the summer; it's near the end of the season. If you haven't lost all respect for Kelvin yet, I doubt anything he can do will cause you to. You know what I meant. I think I've been by far his biggest critic on here among IU fans. Didn't mean anything personal, just meant he is about as low as can get ethically. There isn't much he can do short of admiting his transgressions and apologize. Sorry if I came across as trying to rip you. For college coaches, I think that honor can be reserved for Dave Bliss. I actually think the Knight and Sampson situations are very comparable. Both did things that are magnified because of IU's fanbase. Both had very legitimate reasons to be fired but weren't and were given other punishments instead. Both of them then got fired with not much additional added. The biggest two differences are that Knight's possible problems were physical (going after players and assistants and possible assult) while Sampson's problems are with cheating, and that Sampson's firing occured during the season while Knight's didn't. Yeah Bliss has his own wing in the hall of shame.

  12. The Daily Herald is reporting a buyout. But I still think it is up in the air.
  13. It is Northwestern. Play the trash and Gordon.
  14. It feels to me like Sampson is using those kids to get his buyout.

  16. Beasley goes to Kansas State. details, details It's all Kansas so I don't think it really matters. I'll kill you. POTY
  17. I've heard every time in the book today plus sources are saying there is no press conference. I'm not sure anybody knows what is going on. There is one thing I do believe though. One report has that if Sampson is fired, the players want McCallum to finish the season as the coach, not a coach in Dakich who they had never seen before the start of the season. Greenspan is a joke. Tell the players you don't give a crap who you want running the team. If they get all pissy with you, pull their scholarships. IU has to think about its future, not the wishes of 13 20 year old kids.
  18. I'm under the impression Hughes has two more seasons left on his contract after this season. So he's not off the books until after the 2009-2010 season. You're right. We only saved like $50,000 because his contracrt is the same length as Wallace's.
  19. You're not sure IU will recover? Is that a joke? I didn't word that properly, what I meant is as a result Sampson' actions IU Basketball may be hit with some sanctions and will be down in the near future. Yeah the only thing I would worry about were I an IU fan is how they handle Sampson now. These reports are not a good thign to be coming out. They scream lack of institutional control, which I do not think is the case here at all. Greenspan and his pals need to get this resolved.
  20. Judging by the length of the name and the capitalization, it's DeAndre Thomas or DeShawn Thomas. Since other current college players were named and DeShawn Thomas is a minor, that's most likely who it is. Ok, I know that Skip Bayless said, per peegs, that it was EJ. That would have been a nightmare for IU were it the case. I obviously don't know for sure, but I really don't think that's the case. The full name appears way too long to be Gordon and I'm not sure why he'd be blacked out (yes, he'd be the only current Hoosier, but that info would come out anyway). The NCAA would also perhaps come down quicker and harder; and IU would likely think about a self-imposed post-season ban. Obviously, having Gordon included would be a nightmare. Bayless is a moron. From everything I've heard/read the players threatening to quit isn't true. Even so, players threatened the same when Coach Knight and Davis were fired/resigned and not much came of it. There's about no chance of a player revolt canceling the season. I believe the NCAA requires that the names be blacked out until the accusations are proven. If Sampson cheated to get Gordon I would hope all of the ESPN talking heads, Jay Bilas I am looking at you, at least have the decency to come out and apologize for the way they "covered" the whole EJ/IU/UI angle.

  22. Do any IU fans know who the redacted player is?
  23. This is awesome. This is simply not an accurate report from everything else I've been seeing on Peegs and the Hoosier Scoop. Well It would be career suicide for D.J. White. He is a possible NBA player, if he sits out the rest of the year he would really hurt his draft chances. Obviously Gordon is good enough, while teams would frown upon it, he would be ok.
  24. Sampson rejected the reuest to resign. What a stand up individual that guy is.
  25. yeah but everyone assumes that some of those guys are going to be moving elsewhere. it's very possible that they all stay in the place they were drafted, then you're up crap creek without a paddle because you've shed a lot of salary and there's nobody out there to sign. Yeah, well the Bulls know nothing about this strategy ever failing. ... Yeah, the plan of "save as much money for the big free agent year, and then land a Tracy McGrady" worked marvelously back in...what was it, 2001? Yeah, I believe that was 2001. Duncan and Grant Hill were also out there. And who do we end up with? Ron Mercer. Well too many of the stars didn't like the no headband and cornrow rule. But in all seriousness a lot of players were less than thrilled at the idea of playing for Krause after his whole Teams, not players win titles.
