  1. what's the point in even saying this? i have no desire to watch west coast teams, either, but why say it? Because anyone who enjoys the Big Ten should be shot. Mission accomplished ESPN.
  2. just an all around team player Go Bradley Go He killed the Rangers with his .999 OPS. That's not the point. It is though, I mean by him setting out against guys he wouldn't have success in couldn't that help the team? Especially if his replacement could have had success against the guys he was missing? I mean it works like a platoon. Odds ar eif Milton was not playing against a guy it was becasue he knew he wouldn't be able to suceed against him. I mean sure it isn't exactly what you want your player to do, but hell it's like he was saying he should be platooned.

  4. We've made the playoffs 3 times, with 2 near misses. They have the best player on the planet, a better coaching staff, and a better front office. Pretty easy to see why they have had more success.
  5. St. Louis is in the discussion for best team of the decade in all of baseball. How exactly does that make it a crap divsion? In this division the past ten years we have had some awesome teams. Just because we are in the biggest city and thus have the highest payroll, it really doesn't entitle us to blitz the division every year.
  6. It's still a big accomplishment. This isn't football or basketball where half the teams make the playoffs each year.
  7. not the whole reason, but definitely a large portion Maybe I worded that poorly, not the whole reason for a down season, but the main reason. I still think we take the Wild Card if Aramis satyed healthy the whole year, or only missed a small portion like normal. Hell we might even win the division cause if we had Aramis the Cards might not have been close enough to us to even go get Holliday.
  8. I guess I don't understand why anyone would hate the team. it isn't their fault that they missed a ton of games due to injury. Basically the only reason we aren't getting ready for the playoffs is because of a fluke injury to Aramis Ramirez.
  9. He will face them twice in the last week plus though.
  10. "Coach Cal went on to tweet that if any of his players were caught fighting with the football squad, he'd place them in "Time Out." Fortunately, he still has a couple left over from the NC game..." Saw this on the Phog. :rotfl:
  11. What current managers do you see being more worthy? I could see a case for LaRussa and possibly Torre. I'd take Bobby over either one, though. maybe a better question would be if Cox makes it who doesn't? Because if Cox makes it then Mike Scosicia, Joe Torre, LaRussa, Terry Francona, Lou Piniella they should be in the Hall of Fame. I think what has Cox being talked about as a potential Hall of Famer is because of the 14 straight division titles. He's got the 4th most wins of all time. He has to get in.
  12. Awesome so they will steal both the MVP and Cy Young then from deserving players from the Central. Why not just rewrite the rules to best Yankee-RedSox? Yeah it's frustrating, but all you got to look to is Pedroia winning MVP last year. From here on out the award of MVP has diminished value to me. Who should win MVP from the central? Cabrera? Oh and just watching ESPN and what not, it looks like there is a push for Jeter to win a GG this year  Miguel Cabrera, maybe a interesting choice for the MVP. However if the Twins finish there sneak attack on the Tigers then I feel that Joe Mauer should be the MVP...not like that would happen but its worth a shot. As for the Cy Young it's great to see Greinkie finally healthy mentally and physically. But it's going to be a hard choice to award him the Cy Young when he is in the Central on the Royals. Greinke and Mauer should be slam dunks.
  13. The Cards haven't helped us much though when we've needed it. Plus don't we face the Freak and Cain still?
  14. John Olerud and Tim Salmon in round 3 say hi. Jeff Bagwell and Scott Erickson from round 4. Reading is a skill. Thanks. Although he kinda worded it weird. Lucky for me you were here. Also Charles Johnson and Cal Eldred say hello. Im not going to lose a wink of sleep over Cal Eldred, but Johnson would have been an upgrade over every catcher we had between Jody Davis and Geovany Soto, aside from Rick Wilkens 1 good year, and Joe Girardi and Damon Berryhill need not say hi. Cal still made it to the big leagues and its possible we could have used him for trade fodder. Still better than a kid who never made it out of A ball.
  15. Flash in the pan. He blows worst first round pick ever. Drew Hall, Ty Griffin, and Earl Cunningham say hi. As do Lou Montanez, Bobby Brownlie, Ryan Harvey, and Mark Pawalek. Was Gary Scott a first rounder? And I still remember all the Earl Cunningham rookie cards I had. :bye: Scott was our second rounder that year. I was living in Peoria when Earl came through. He was a nice enough guy. Always signed for us kids. But we used to hang out by the other teams bullpens and they always made fun of Earl by his second year. Saying he had 120Ks and the like.

  18. Flash in the pan. He blows worst first round pick ever. Drew Hall, Ty Griffin, and Earl Cunningham say hi.Let me guess you prolly would have rather drafted Frank Thomas than Earl Cunningham? Your loss. Those two were in the same draft class? Yikes. I think they were back to back picks. Actually though the Sox picked one spot in front of us. We also were back to back in the 88 draft. We picked Griffin then the Sox picked Robin Ventura.

  20. Why does nothing surprise me anymore with teams I like? I feel the same way. at least he didn't tear it while getting his ass kicked by an illini football player. True, but a torn ACL is way worse than a dinged up finger.
  21. It's ok though, Joe will get his when he signs with one of those two eventually. :banghead:

  23. 9 more scoreless innings and he finishes at 1.99 for the year. I hope he does it. mainly cause I think they will give the Cy Young to Sabathia and I would love to see that happen when another guy put up a sub 2 era.
  24. Gotta love that thought process. We Could get to 85 wins, missed every starter for some period, Aramis Ramirez for two months, Soriano and Soto had zero seasons, and Kevin Gregg blew a ton of saves. If half of those things don't happen we are getting reading to get swept again in the playoffs. This team doesn't need anything, but one more shot next year. They also got the 2nd best season of 33 year old Lee's career, a shockingly great performance from Randy Wells, Angel Guzman healthy for nearly an entire season, and Ted Lilly's career year. There were plenty of people who thought this team would struggle to eclipse the 90-win mark this year. They were pretty old, with multiple injury prone players, and they aren't going to be any younger. This team absolutely needs stuff unless the plan is simply to hope the competition all regresses. I see no reason why Derrek and Ted can't put up similar years to what they've done this year and if Sori and Soto come back at all they won't even need to. As for Guzman, that kind of thing happens. Who would have thought Chris Carpenter would have put up this kind of year after missing the last two? So you see no reason why top of the line performances can't be repeated but you don't think disappointment can be repeated? Okay. Those kinds of thinks happen, as you say. What you've line out here is the hope everything works out perfectly approach. And it's not a good one. This team needs stuff. They are old, injury prone and seriously lacking at multiple positions. They can contend in 2010, but it won't be as easy as just showing up. They could. Although I would bet Geo has a better year. Sori, not so much. That said I think that more of our guys are due to bounce back than fall even more. Fall guys prolly are, Lee, Lilly, Baker, and maybe Fuku. Rebound guys are Sori, Soto, Z, Fontenot, Bradley, etc. Lot more chances for rebounds I would think.
