  1. I'm not even gonna pay attention to this crap until LeBron signs. I'm not getting my hopes up at all.
  2. Good one.
  3. Hey did you guys end up getting into the Big Ten? Or were you the fat girl at that party who had her legs open the entire night only to get left alone?
  4. It's been a long time since our last Final Four to be sure. Oh I should probably explain what that is to you.
  5. He's done more than that. He has played Ryan Theriot over a Mike Fontenot and Jeff Baker platoon. He has batted Ryan Theriot and his ~.280obp leadoff. He has misused Sean Marshall all year long, to the point that we've had to put our top prospect and ace in the 8th inning roles this year. Both moves having seriously negative impact on our franchise's future. But, with all that said, it doesn't matter. This team isn't good enough as it is built to do any real damage and thus I'd rather tank than finish with 75 wins.
  6. Lou needs to stay. We need a top 3 pick and Lou being here is probably the best way to ensure that happens. Plus he is going to help keep Geo cost controlled. Win Win.
  7. Yeah, that sounds about right. Want your ring? Couldn't get it done? Join up with the super team for a season for peanuts before you retire. Sweet Karl Malone is coming back. LOL - Gary Payton, Sean Kemp and Benoit Benjiman are also reportedly available Oh, I forgot Patrick Ewing, Chuck Oakley and John Starks. Gary got his ring for Miani.

  9. Then you saw that he won't qualify at Mizzou anyway That's just mean spirited, I don't want to have to make comments about how we don't need Mitchell to beat you again. And a pre-emptive "Calm down illiniguy, I know you guys are good." Nah you should be excited, I think you've beaten us three times in your lifetime now.
  10. I imagine it will be because we can't score. Probably due to the fact that we will start crap like Theriot and Hill over way more productive players.
  11. He's about ready to rejoin the club.
  12. I'm still liking him a lot more than the number 2 pick in the same draft, but yeah that's gonna drop a few hundred points or so.
  13. Jim Hendry wrote: We are just one good run away from winning this division.
  14. The Royals also have a ton of talent coming. And Alex Gordon OPSing aroun 1.100 at AAA. They are a good GM hire away from being pretty good. Id take Billy Butler and his record setting GIDP pace over any hitter on the Cubs. Dayton Moore might have given him to us in '08 when he sent him down because he didn't have power. When he was 21. I thought it was only the Cubs that did that. Nope it's only idiots. Kansas City is employing one also. Seriously can anyone think of one good reason why Gordon is at AAA?

  16. oh i have been in "lose cubs lose" mode for a month now. this team is just bad, and losing brings a better draft pick and more chance that hendry and piniella are gone. yep, I mean it still sucks to watch, but I get it. We have to hope we lose too bad the Orioles have that down better than us. I'd love to add Rendon.

  18. Brett Jackson homered again tonight. We should hope we lose at the big league level.
  19. Wouldn't be surprised if he struggled a bit in Daytona. Obviously, it's the first start, so let's wait and see, but with such a raw changeup, best case scenario, this year for him in Daytona, at least, relative to my expectations, is to perform akin to how Rafael Dolis did. Seems like he recovered well and had a decent outing.
  20. McNutt getting hit around a bit.
  21. For him not to be a liability at first base, he'd have to raise his career OPS by about 200 or so points. At almost 30, I see now way that happens. Rick Ankiel is the only player I can think of who has had significant playing time in the majors as a pitcher and position player (though there's an Oriole coming through their system who was a pitcher as well). He had to start back at A-ball and work his way back up through the system and has since posted OPS' of .863, .843, .672 and .695. Adam Loewen. Thanks. The last name was almost coming to me, but I couldn't remember him. The Astros have a kid trying it as well Brian Bougsevic or something.
  22. Steinbrenner "subsidizes" other teams because that's the rules of the league, not because he doesn't give a crap about money. The question then is "why"? I don't think the answer is, "because he can". I think it kills the hard core conservative family to pay the tax, but I think it would hurt a lot more if they didn't win. And if they continued to not win I don't think the salary would go that high for long. But like I said, I think this is not really the point. The Cubs don't need a Steinbrenner, but they don't need a Tribune Co. either. What I hope for is a Mark Cuban type. So far Ricketts has said all the right things, but it hasn't translated to action other than hiring a real statistical analyst. The draft was his first chance to make a good impression and that doesn't look so good, right now (not just b/c of the 1st rounder either). Why? Because he can, and because he has to. The Yankees are filthy rich. They make a ton of dough. MLB dictated that the big boys have to pay a tax if they go past a threshold, and that threshold doesn't come close to hurting Steinbrenner. Also, what exactly has Mark Cuban accomplished? Cuban took a nothing franchise and has turned them into one of the top 5 in the nba.
