  1. It's not Kelton's fault the Cubs can't find a spot for him on the big club. His natural position is blocked by one of the game's potent bats (Ramirez). By the way anybody here what position's he's having success with on the field?
  2. Hairston and Cedeno up. Welly down. Perez gone. Anyway you can. DFA or trade him. Hairston backs up Center, left and second and Cedeno plays short and a maybe a little second. Plus we get down to 11 pitchers.
  3. Comedy Raw. That really shows your true feelings on who you want.
  4. Question: is there enough money to sign both Burnett and Millwood next year? Not trying to be a smart@ss, I really don't know what next years' finances look like. If so, I highly endorse their signing (tho I'd rather see Penny instead of Burnett). Now, doing so means we're admitting our highly touted minor-league arms aren't as good as advertised, but I'm willing to do that. In fact, I'd go so far as to say a staff of Prior/Z/Penny/Millwood/Maddux almost guarantees us at least a Wild Card berth next year. One need look no further than those yahoos on Chicago's south side to see the value of a strong, stable rotation. Well, for one thing, the Sammy money will be off the books. And IF (that's a big if, though) Maddux retires, that's another $9 million, so at least $21 million there in total. Nomar is making 8 million this year, I think. If he takes $4 million, theres $25 to play with ($16 million if Maddux stays). We'll have some wiggle room this offseason. I think I'm missing some money somewhere as well. I'm sure one of the more intelligent people will correct me where I omitted someone or made an incorrect contract statement. Remlinger's 4 mil and Hawkins 4 or 4.5 mil would be gone also
  5. I just read a piece that said after a bad slump to start the season Dope has been putting together some quality at bats as of late. His coach mentioned something to the effect of he'll be a huge run producer in Wrigley someday. Whatever his coaches had him working on seems to have soaked in. I think I read that on a Cubs Insider article. The one they send to your email. The same email talked about Maddux and when he plans to retire.
  6. On the other hand, let Welly start. He's sucked as a long man out of the pen but he's been starting in AAA as far as I know. Maybe that would help him locate his pitches.
  7. To me it doesn't matter. Neither Hill or Rusch are outstanding. In Rusch's defense (and Dusty's), Rusch has been pretty solid as a starter. One bad game isn't going to make them do anything they might regret. Like des. him for assignment. On the other hand Hill seemed ok in the pen but Rusch has been the (all around) guy. Toss a coin. That might be the best way.
  8. You are right and I do appreciate it. I was a huge Ozzie Smith fan growing up, and he and Ryno were special. Yet, I think you would be in the minority. What minority? Liking the Wizard?
  9. I say Welly down and Hill up. That was absolutely horrible to watch. Homer, Walk, Homer and I don't think he did get an out. I couldn't watch anymore. At least Hill would give us two lefties in the pen.
  10. I would say production like that is worth his salary.
  11. Well put Wizard. If I read your name right you'll appreciate me saying I admired "The Wizard" when he played. I grew up a shortstop and loved watching Ozzie play. Even though I wanted him to lose and hated the rest of the Cardinals. Back to the Barrett thing, I was thinking a couple guys on the Cards wanted to brawl but the umpires stopped anything from happening. Very good job by the umpires keeping everyone cool if I remember correctly. Not saying in a bad way, because Barrett probably deserved it but I think a couple bench players on the cards were taunting him or pleading for him to start something.
  12. My take is when the Zambrano/Edmonds thing went down, Barrett got into it with the Cardinal Bench. After the beaning by Zambrano I believe there was a warning and then all the cameras went on Barrett as he was talking trash back with the Cardinals bench. I asked my co-worker who is a huge Cards fan and he was remembering Barrett in the paper with some disrespectful comments after the game. We're pretty sure it was after that game. Hope that helps gus_dog.
  13. I was just thinking Cubs hitters were sitting on the fastball anytime they wanted to swing at the FIRST pitch. I'm thinking Nomar's double and C-Patt's homer. I think C-Patt hit a Cutter that didn't cut.
  14. Somebody will probably prove me wrong, but it seemed like the first pitch was a fastball most of the time. Towards the end of the game he was barely breaking 90 unless those were all Cutters like UK pointed out. I watched the brains on ESPN and they never mentioned cutter just "Fastball with Movement"
  15. The way we played today everybody should look out. Great game today!!! Hope we build on it.
  16. Still a waste of money in my opinion. I'm on the bandwagon of not paying tons of money to middle relievers unless there name is Gagne or Nen from a few years back. Especially with the farm system we have. I would think you could bring up Welly or Leicester and they could contribute if given regular work. Anybody have any other names to throw out that you'd feel comfortable in a major league uniform?
  17. Giving up 4 runs and not recording an out. Rough start. I'm thinking he's done after this year. Boston fans will want his head if he continues like that. Luckily they won the game. Do the Cubs owe Remmy his whole contract or does Boston pick some of it up?
  18. Do you want everyone to bring up the Nomar for left campaign? There's got to be a better option in CF than Macias. I've never watched Burny in Center and I also think he would be bad but if it lets Murton into the lineup, I'm all for it. I would leave Corey in AAA personally.
  19. I have the right to classify myself. I am not a person to think I know more than the manager and I don't want ANYONE to think that's what I'm about. Dusty has all day to look up matchups and all night to think of lineups. I don't have the time and don't want to try. I've been reading this board for alot longer than I've been posting and I know the rules about not grouping people and argue the topic not the person. Sorry if I came across wrong.
  20. I don't want to be classified as a Dusty Basher but does anyone actually think Pie, Murton and Harvey will play together ever. If Dusty is around next year I would trade Murton while his value would be considered high. At least it should be for his AA numbers and his hot start to his career.
  21. Very interesting CubsWin. With all the teams interested in him now think how many teams would want him then. The Cubs might be one of few teams that could afford him with some other positions being taken by cheap farmhands. What price tag would you put on Dunn if he makes it to Free Agency?
  22. I'm hoping Hill tops out like a Mark Mulder. Last night Mulder was throwing 87-89 on his fastball and they both have really good curves. Except Mulder is like 13-5 with a respectable era. I'm glad nobody is giving up on Hill yet, because the Mets were getting alot of cheap hits. I am worried about his pickoff move though. It seemed they were running freely on him and us in general.
  23. We could try Burny in Center and Murton and Lawton on the corners. Burny played center most of the year for Colorado when Preston was injured.
  24. Amen Scott. Amen.
  25. Back to this thread talking about DLee's year vs the cards bench players. Everyone knows the main reason MVLee is having the year he is having. They made his feet very very quiet this off-season and he also made adjustments to the inside pitch. Now that's why our guy is having a great year. Now, besides the "great Cardinal coaching" what's the reasons for your guys. (Nunez, Rodriguez)
