  1. I'm surprised Williamson isn't mentioned more. If Vance's obsession with Dotel actually comes true we'll have a six inning game. Most of the time. Dotel won't go everyday like Williamson this year but when he does I'd put Dotel in the seventh followed by Williamson and then Dempster. Throw in Ohman when needed and that's a solid backend of the game.
  2. Not disagreeing with you Kessinger but didn't Jesse Crain set a record for lowest k/9. W L ERA G GS CG SHO SV SVO IP H R ER HR BB SO 2005 12 5 2.71 75 0 0 0 1 4 79.2 61 28 24 6 29 25 I would say those are respectable stats. Anyone against getting a guy like Crain who couldn't strike out my Grandma.
  3. I agree with Lonestar. Having lived in the Dallas area for awhile Cuban seems to be a distraction to the team. To me, he is the best salesman in pro sports as far as owners. He gets people's attention and they come to the games. Whether it's bad mouthing the ref's in the paper or buying a high octane player. He sells tickets. My opinion is the Cubs sell enough tickets, they just need to buy the right mold of players. What that mold is, nobody knows.
  4. One more note, it always seemed that Len pointed out a town in Iowa that was watching there broadcast. That's what I meant to point out.
  5. I feel extremely lucky that the local cable dropped fox sports midwest as soon as they found out there were no Cubs games there anymore. They picked up Comcast and of course have WGN. I see most of the games unless the team falls out of contention and the games are moved. Living in Iowa I heard throughout the year of small towns surrounding me that got Comcast and were watching so Iowa I think is well covered with Cubs games and fans.
  6. I'd rather have B.J. Ryan. 4 1/2 years younger roughly. From what others have posted and what the Phillies were rumored to have offered they're probably similiarly priced. Numbers are similar. Wagner W L ERA G GS CG SHO SV SVO IP H R ER HR BB SO 2005 4 3 1.51 75 0 0 0 38 41 77.2 45 17 13 6 20 87 Career 34 32 2.40 584 0 0 0 284 --- 630.1 409 182 168 59 217 840 B.J. W L ERA G GS CG SHO SV SVO IP H R ER HR BB SO 2005 1 4 2.43 69 0 0 0 36 41 70.1 54 20 19 4 26 100 Career 16 19 3.54 405 0 0 0 42 59 381.1 307 161 150 29 195 465 Wagner has the better era but B.J. struck out more in less innings. Not a big deal except he might have less control with better stuff.
  7. C'mon Vance. Call me something worthwhile. Like Mr Cobb. Ty that is.
  8. Let me put it a little clearer. I DON'T WANT ANYTHING TO DO WITH MILTON BRADLEY AND HIS APPARENT DISLIKE FOR WHITE PEOPLE, TRASHING OF TEAMMATES, ARGUEING WITH FANS IN THE OUTFIELD OR MENTAL BREAKDOWNS. NOTHING, PERIOD. Sorry if I started my post wrong Tim but Milton Bradley can go to the looney bin for all I care. Not even Dusty deserves having to deal with that. Hope I was clear this time.
  9. I'm not racist but .... --- edited by Tim Has a worthwhile statement ever begun with those words?
  10. With my idea I would make Loften, yes Kenny Lofton my number one prioritie as far as signing free agents. I just don't believe that Brian Giles will play anywhere but where Marcus does or he'll just stay put. Plus I look at the Yankees and all there multi year/million dollar deals to older players and I just don't think you win that way. No matter how much you have to spend. I also wouldn't let Nomar walk if he would play in the outfield. My lineup would be, Lofton CF Castillo 2B Arod SS Lee 1B Aramis 3B Nomar LF Murton RF Barrett C Yes, everyone is going to kill me with the rotation we would have but that offense is extremely potent. Plus Loften doesn't block Pie and eases him into the big leagues. We would still need a bullpen guy and a rotation guy like Millwood or via trade. Let me know what you think.
  11. What do you think needs to happen Vance? One of our big prospects be part of the deal. When I thought of the trade I looked at the fact that either us or the Marlins would need to sign Encarnacion because he's a free agent. Pierre is a free agent after next year. Lowell and Mota are both coming off terrible years. The only cream of the crop leaving Florida would be Castillo and in my opinion there best piece they would be getting would be Walker and he's alot cheaper than Castillo. That is where I came up with my trade and your right alot of it depends on where the Marlins payroll is projected to be and which direction do they want to go.
  12. One thing I forgot. If the Marlins feel there getting the short end of the stick try to get Gordon to Florida. My first response was going with Vance's idea of the Marlins shedding payroll.
  13. How about Wood, Pierre and Lowell to the Yankees. Patterson, Cedeno, Walker, Welly to the Marlins and Arod, Encarnacion, Castillo, and throw in Mota to the Cubs. Let Nomar walk because as much as I'd like to keep him I think his price will be to high for Hendry based on post injury offensive production.
  14. Anybody know Dusty's email. He needs to read the part about not giving up on a small sample size. The kid is their for a reason, you just have to trust whoever wanted him up there. I love that part.
  15. I think this is big news also. An injury free Ramirez for 06 would be huge. I personally would be anxious to see how fast he can actually run. :P
  16. My good friend is a huge Braves fan and reads all their message boards. He says Giles would give anything to play ball with his little bro. My friend has one of those jobs he can check on his team all day long. He knew the Braves love for Farnsworth way before he ended up there.
  17. I for one remember Maddux saying he likes Barrett as a catcher and thinks he'll be a great player. Source, MLB.com earlier this year, maybe spring training.
  18. I agree with you totally except I think you are missing the fact that we to have a core of homegrown talent (mostly pitchers). I don't want or think it's necessary to spend money like the Red Sox or Yankees but we are up there in payroll and yes a chunk went to Sosa. I don't want Giles for multi years but I do want Nomar. Since returning he's ripped the cover off the ball and he's supposedly not 100%. They should look at Cedeno as the supersub behind Walker, Nomar and Ramirez. If he can't do it then I would change my plan to get him some playing time. We need to fix the outfield. That should be number one. I wouldn't even talk to Furcal as he wouldn't solve our problems, I would blow up the outfield. Keep Murton as a 4th outfielder since we're still not sure what he's about and finally get some pitching help in the bullpen. Sure up the rotation whether it's Rusch or Dempster in there and then see who can help in house like Hill or Guzman and spend some money on a big name in both the outfield and pitching. I got off the subject a little but basically said what you did with some names of guys. I would really try to fill within but when you got a guy like Nomar I just can't let him walk. Offense is harder to replace than Defense.
  19. Or perhaps OBP wasn't that important.
  20. Farnsworth had potential still when we traded him but he was part of the gutting of cancers last off-season. Novoa has been reliable but not as dominating as Farnsworth. Which Farnsworth was coming into the game was the question. The 100 mile an hour you can touch it or the 4 straight sliders that were balls. At least Novoa shows some consistency.
  21. I'll agree the Cubs have no plan. If a poorly run team means you spend more for the same results as Tampa or the Reds than fine. But the Red Sox, Angels and Yankees are all examples of big free agent spenders and they're all pretty good. I'm am also aware the Yankees were really good in the late 90's when they built from within for the most part but they don't do that now like the Angels and Red Sox and they're all in the playoffs most of the time. If that is the trade-off, (spending big bucks to win) than I'm happy being in a playoff race almost every year.
  22. Hawkins got us prospects. One who helps now, and another hopefully later. Nomar and Remmy nobody complained at the time. No production brought out the grumblings. Burnitz and Rusch I have no idea why they're on this list. Rusch=see last night, Burnitz=see the multiple threads on his D and left handed pop. Both in my opinion are worth the money. Hollandsworth is gone, let's forget him. He sucked. Just my two cents.
  23. It's such a touchy subject but I wouldn't drop an atomic bomb on the cubs just yet. I agree Barrett stays. I would keep most guys but get rid of the entire bench except Blanco. Get rid of Burnitz because he'll be to expensive. I loved the one year rental though for the record. Keep Nomar and Cedeno. Keep Walker. Basically the whole starting infield. I have no opinion on Lawton or Corey. I'll let Hendry surprise me on the outfield and most of the bench. We need two stud pitchers. One in the pen and a starter. I wouldn't care if somebody stepped up huge internally like a Hill or Guzman. Free up some money for a stud outfielder in a trade. Just my two cents.
  24. I'll be coming from Iowa with a group full of young bucks looking to party. Hope to see you all at Wrigleyville!!! (Before and after the game)
