  1. In the November issue there's an article by Bruce Levine and Joel Bierig. For what it's worth it got me excited.
  2. Pick a different player BigbadB. Tony Gwynn is the exception, not the rule. He is one of the greatest hitters of this era.
  3. Koronka will likely be in our pen next year. He deserves a shot after a lights out start to the fall.
  4. I'd pass on Sheffield. He's old and whines way to much to the press for our choir clubhouse. See Todd Walker.
  5. Vance, you are adament on signing Dotel. What could you do to get Hendry's attention? Tell Bruce Miles, email Carrie Muskat. Any ideas?
  6. so hit the url button at the end of the link?
  7. Someone help me in posting a link. I got it off of mlb.com
  8. Reported he agreed to a six year deal worth 33 million. Baldelli reportedly agrees to deal
  9. The problem with your theory is if Hendry doesn't do something big to make this team a contender both him and Baker are gone after 06. I think if Hendry builds a winner than Dusty will be around with him. That is truly a sad statement to. If this organization can't even recognize Neifi will start over Cedeno because of Baker than how are we going to recognize Dusty is an incompetent manager for playing Neifi everyday.
  10. No brainer. I would substitute Washburn in for Byrd if it was roughly the same cost.
  11. Why? that makes no sense, Niefi and Walker will make the same exact amount next season, and Walker is clearly superior. Face it, Hendry is not a good gm, it's time we accepted that and moved on. I never said I liked the Neifi signing. I'm a realist. If I was with Jim Hendry all day and listened to who he called. Agents, players, and scouts then I would call him out and say this is who I think you should and shouldn't call. I would tell him his "plan" sounds good or not. I as a fan am not in the position to know what he's thinking. I can say, Neifi's signing went way overboard. Money and term. I pay money to see them play every year so I have the right to say I'm not looking forward to watching Neifi play every day. But to call out our GM who's probably on the phone right now talking to Giles agent or the GM of the Phillies or calling about Johan Santana or whoever he's talking to. I want it to be clear you and I don't have a clue as far as transactions this off-season. That's why I've said before let's wait and see what happens.
  12. I agree with the optomistic ones. As I said in another thread, I'm not calling out Hendry until we go into Spring Training with Neifi as the starting 2B. There are possibilities I wouldn't mind him there anyways. Like Giles in right, Dunn in LF. Or Abreu, Burrell, Manny. Possibilities we have no clue what he's working on. Things that we can't speculate on yet because it's not Friday. He can't talk money with Furcal or Giles. Whatever Hendry says about pressure in winning, he's playing it off but I got to believe he's feeling the pressure and has the dough to make a splash. I think we all agree that he needs to stop throwing it away little by little and start making a splash.
  13. When we just wasted 5 million dollars on someone we could have paid the league minimum for? It isn't premature. You're right, it isn't Neifi's fault Dusty bats him in the 2 hole. It's ultimately Hendry's fault, as he resigned the offensive black hole. It's the whole front office's fault we resigned Neifi. Somebody needed to show Hendry Neifi's current stats and show what adequate backups actually cost. You don't pay $10,000 for a Chevy Chevette just because the salesman says it vintage.
  14. We thought the same thing last year after we traded for Sosa and that thing was Burnitz. I'm def not being optimistic about anything this offseason. They have to give us something to be excited about. They can't honestly believe we'll just keep coming and spending money at Wrigley. I want Abreu or something better than that. No retreads.
  15. We got to believe Hendry has something up his sleeve as far as a big time trade. I would hope for Abreu. I just think it's premature to roast Hendry's behind this early. I hate Neifi but it's not his fault the manager hits him in the 1 or 2 hole.
  16. His teammate ( Smoltz I believe) said it best, if you swing at everything you'll never get anything to hit.
  17. What about David Kelton? His natural position is third. We have no use for him. What do you all think we could do in a trade that involved him?
  18. If we get a Manny or Dunn type via trade for left field I wouldn't mind Juan in right. All depends on Hendry's plan. Murton needs to play though, so I'd say no to Juan.
  19. Awesome idea. Where do we sign? I've said in another thread, Cedeno could probably handle the leadoff spot. If he can't, put Murton in there. We wouldn't need a "speedy" guy up there, just a guy that gets on base. That lineup is stellar. Holy smokes Don, when's opening day?
  20. I think we're kidding ourselves if we think Nomar will sign for around 3 mil. It wasn't that long ago he was winning batting titles. I'm all for signing him but I would pay more for his services than most people I'm sure.
  21. Leicester is a lost cause in my book. I'm not holding out much hope for Welly either. The Cubs have to start looking at guys who give up fewer walks. I agree Goony, I was just throwing out the many possible cheap options that the Cubs have. Hopefully they will learn before opening day 06 who they are. I still have faith in Novoa, Wuertz and Ohman though.
  22. I'm not sure the Rockies would do that deal Goony. Looks like we'd give up Williams or Hill, Sing, a couple B arms and Corey. So that's not bad if the money is right. But, if I was Colorado I wouldn't be crazy on Corey because of his cost and risk. Last I knew Sing was still a little ways away from the Majors so they're really getting the short end of the stick in my opinion. The only positive for them is salary relief.
  23. With that lineup I agree with Cusefan Cedeno should lead off. He showed great patience and discipline in his 80 MLB at bats. He also posted a .356 OBP. Anyone know how speedy he is? He's definately not considered slow. Beltran would bat 2nd for me with his speed and him being a threat to steal. Cedeno Beltran Lee Giles Ramirez Walker Murton Barett Or flip flop Walker and Murton.
  24. Bullpen arms are hit and miss. When you have proven guys like Williamson and Dotel you have to snag them. If they have injury history you just have to say your prayers that they'll tell the manager their arm hurts after the fifth day in a row he throws them out there. I'm personally hoping for a Wuertz, Novoa, Welly, JVB, Leicester to step up and really help in the pen. Like I said, hit and miss.
  25. No. I wouldn't hesitate spending 3 mil on Scott. He's still under 30 last I checked and has nasty stuff. His biggest problem last year was his slider wouldn't slide and from what I read most of those non sliding sliders left the ball park. He also said in an interview he had been through a TJS before and knew what to expect, out of his arm more than ever before. I'd take that gamble and hope it turned out like Dempster and I am with Vance in that I'd put 3 or 4 mil in front of Dotel and hoped he'd sign the dotted line.
