  1. I think Delucci would be a fine addition...plus we are both Ole Miss Rebel Baseball alums :-)
  2. What the heck has Roy Oswalt done besides be a damn fine pitcher? For me: LENNY HARRIS....OMG.....If I saw him hit a weak ground ball back to the pitcher one more time as a Cub I literally thought I was going to go insane, like totally lose my mind. And he ended up getting a ring that year. Unreal.
  3. My man Oswalt is straight up gangsta'! Way to mow the turd birds down Roy!!
  4. As an out of towner, out of stater, out of regioner (is that even a word?) Cubs fan. I'm struggling to understand the rivalry between the Sox and Cubs. It seems to me, that since they are in a different league, that most Cubs fans would just be indifferent to Sox fans. I mean, as an Ole Miss Rebel, our rivals are Mississippi State and LSU....because we actually PLAY them when it matters alot of the time. When I think of Cubs' rivals I think of Cards and Astros. Can someone civilly explain to me the anonymosity alot of you native Chicagoans have for Sox fans? Are they trashy or what is it about them that inspires such hatred towards a team that we rarely play.
  5. Alot of playing baseball is instincts, I don't think I would have enough time to say "ok, that's outside, i should swing and run" I think time is the main factor for that not occuring.
  6. oh my god USC is like the freaking Yankees.
  7. do the goalposts come down if the Irish win??
  8. Oh PLEASE beat USC. They are like the Yankees of NCAA football.
  9. Hmmm....perhaps I should join you. My three favorite sports teams are the Cubs, the Rebels, and the New Orleans Saints. Good logic there. I think I may do the same.
  10. OLE MISS BEATING BAMA AT THE HALF!!! WOOOOOOOOOOT
  11. I'm with Vance on this one, the braves have a big big fan base scattered all across the Deep South and given the distances, can't make it to alot of games. There is also a huge amount of Cub fans down south thanks to WGN.
  12. My thinking it will be Jonny Gomes of the Devil Rays. .282, 21 hr, 54 rbi in 101 games. OBP of .375 as well. That's not bad playing for a crappy team.
  13. I think Pujols wins it. I'm sure there are alot of voters who feel bad that he got shafted of the MVP all those years that Bonds won it. In the American League I think A-Rod gets it. Ortiz has similar stats but I think voters, and myself, would be reluctant to give the MVP to a Designated Hitter.
  14. My money would be on Jeff Francouer in the National League. Zach Duke should also get looked at it. Ryan Howard 3rd. American League I'd vote for Jonny Gomes or Huston Street.
  15. Ricky Ricky Ricky Ricky no contest
  16. I agree for the most part, but if a player's head suddenly significantly increases in size, there really aren't too many possibilities as to why. You can bulk up any numer of legal ways, but a burgeoning skull has very few explanations. there isn't a workout machine on earth that will expand your skull, only thing that does that is HGH.
  17. Imagine?\ I don't think there is any doubt that Frank isn't on the juice. He is a lot of things, but I don't think juicehead is one of them. He was a gigantic monster out of high school when Auburn picked him up. Definitely not a juicer IMO
  18. Hell, forget steroids, how good would his numbers have been if he hadn't spent 6 years of the prime of his career bravely serving his country flying combat missions?
  19. That's definitely one way and a good way of looking at it. But I refuse to take anything away from the elite pitchers or the elite hitters of the deadball era.
  20. VERY good point about Ruth's competition. And of course i'm sure some dude is going to come on here and say that "well, pitchers weren't as good back then" That's BS. The average BA among hitters back in 1910 is about the same as it is now.
  21. Yes, you and Tim raise good points about Barry's high walks the past several years. But to suggest that he would have gotten hits in those AB's is speculative. All we have to go on in baseball is statistics, and he doesn't have the stats to be considered the greatest hitter ever in my opinion. Well, if all you consider is batting average and hit totals when ranking hitters, then your opinion is right on. But not considering the total package of what a hitter brings to the plate is what I would deem "short-sighted". Well then this begs the question, are we talking about greatest offensive threat of all time or best hitter of all time. If we are discussing greatest all around offensive weapon then Barry would certainly be in my top few. But if all I needed was a basehit I certainly wouldn't pick Barry, i'd go with Cobb or Williams probably.
  22. I would say that Griffey is a HOF'er if he retired today. I mean, Mickey Mantle is in the hall even though his numbers wouldn't jump out at the lay person because of his numerous injuries. I'd think that Griffey is in a similar boat with Mantle. If not for injuries, one could generally assume based on the pattern of his year to year statistics that Griffey would have HOF numbers by now.

  24. How can a man who has a career batting average of .300 and in his 19th season not have 3000 hits be considered the greatest hitter of all time??? Taking into account his steals, homers, doubles, etc, he's certainly among the elite players of all time. But best hitter?? Hell, Clemente had 3000 hits in only 17 seasons, this is Bonds' 19th year to play in the bigs and he is still 300 short of 3000. Ty Cobb and Hank Aaron got 3000 after only 15 years. I mean, Barry Bonds has amazing numbers when compared with the rest of players throughout history. But what makes him any better than Mays, Ruth, Aaron, Cobb, Williams, Musial? I guess the past several years of hitting homers with ease puts him into the category of being the greatest of all time. Power numbers aside, he's hardly in my top 10 best hitters of all time. C'mon people, stop thinking so short-sighted. His batting average for his career is .300 and would be below 300 if his past couple of years weren't so incredible.
  25. Mine would be 1) Williams (barely edges Cobb on account of his power storke, however, Cobb supposedly didn't like hitting homers because he thought the game was made lazy by them. He did hit 5 homers in a row once to prove to reporters that he did have a power game...but on stats alone I give williams the edge because of his obvious power numbers combined with avg. 2) Cobb (.366 lifetime BA, nuff said. Best pure hitter ever IMO) 3) Ruth (well....he's the great bambino) 4) Tris Speaker ( dude had 792 doubles...c'mon) 5) Gehrig (guy was an RBI machine, ranks 4th all time in RBI despite his shortened career.) I have omitted Bonds from any discussion of greatest hitters of all time because A) He's a cheater B) his lifetime BA is only .300 which doesnt' hold a candle to any of the aforementioned gentleman who all have lifetime batting averages of over .340
