  1. No, no, no. Angel Pagan = Ty Cobb. No no no....Cobb stunk. He got those .420, .409, .401, .390, and .389 seasons playing in an era when the pitchers lobbed the ball underhand up there. Considering the fact that the average player in those days hit .250, Cobb stunk, but everyone else must have really stunk. Regardless, Pagan is a far superior talent to Cobb. He plays in the modern era where athletes are big and strong. Disregard the fact that Cobb himself was 6'2, 200 and his friend Honus Wagner was 6'0, 210....those guys certainly weren't athletes. Pagan easily takes the cake to Cobb. Probably better the Mays too. You see, Mays played 40 years after Cobb, that means he played in an era that was better than Cobb, which makes him better. Therefore, Pagan plays 40 years after Mays....so he must be better.
  2. Angel Pagan = Willie Mays
  3. Glad to see your on the wagon for now. That's got to be mighty hard for you to swallow, given the level of "hatred"/rivalry between the 2 schools. It's certainly difficult to swallow given that i've literally bled and sweated trying to defeat LSU many times. However, when it comes down to something like the final four, i'll definitely pull for a SEC team....and especially a SEC West team.
  4. ...or one that looks like Freddy http://i.esmas.com/cms_ul/0/538/596/753/ESCI1023_freddy_P.jpg
  5. I NEVER in a million years thought i'd be saying this....but GEAUX TIGERS!
  6. The asterisk was next to Maris' record, commenting on how he achieved it in 162 games not 154. Is that what you are referring to? Yeah, I meant the guys that broke it will have one. 1927 - Babe Ruth - 60 hr * 1961 - Roger Maris - 61 hr ** 1999 - Sammy Sosa - 63 hr *** 2001 - Sammy Sosa - 64 hr *** 1999 - Mark McGwire - 65 hr *** 1998 - Sammy Sosa - 66 hr *** 1998 - Mark McGwire - 70 hr *** 2001 - Barry Bonds - 73 hr *** * suspected of using hotdogs and beer in between innings ** suspected of smoking two packs in the dugout during a single ballgame *** suspected of using performance enhancing drugs that's sad indeed.
  7. According to some states laws, even an accomplice to a murder can be found guility of murder, regardless of whether the murderer has been found guilty at that point.

  9. I dunno man, Sammy with the Rangers looked like around 170. He was pretty scrawny.
  10. 100% Correct. Bonds must prove actual malicious intent on the part of the authors to win a libel suit.
  11. I hit a check swing homer once in high school. Didn't hurt that the bat was aluminum, that the pitcher was throwing absolute gas (about 92), and most importantly, that the right field fence was like 270. It was one of those perfect sweet spot moments you get with bats sometimes, where you don't even feel the ball.
  12. You don't wanna know what I think about when I see the name Bush. *cough* my sig *cough**cough* Speaking of which, I've decided after a lot of passing by your sig in threads that the girl on the right just edges out the girl on the left. Barely. Ya, girl on the far right's name is Morgan. She has a smoking body. Remarkably, for someone who is so hot, she's pretty smart and is in medschool now. The girl I was seeing at the time is the one smack dab in the middle of the pack wearing the white shirt. She wasn't all that intellectually stimulating, but umm...she was alot of fun.
  13. You couldn't be farther from the truth. We have an open bar party, sponsored by the law school every other week. It's fantastic.

  15. That's awesome. Don't like him, never voted for him, but he CAN throw a strike. I think Dubya has said he wants to be MLB Commish one day. Bad of a president as I think he is, I bet he'd be better than the used car salesman currently running the game.
  16. What about headphones? Well, that would give away that i was listening or watching something. Plus, I needed to keep an ear out for the kiddos.
  17. Last year I was in charge of a study hall around 2....so I could watch games on the computer because I had the MLB.TV package or whatever. That was nice....no volume unfortunately :-(...that would have given away my cover that I was doing research.
  18. Those things to end of the game just are plain heart-breaking. Ugh. Hopefully in 2009 'Team' USA comes ready to play. It's every 3 years? Why? I think it's every 4 years...they are just doing it 3 years this time so they can get in the odd number years to avoid clashing with the olympics
  19. Shame.....Shame
  20. I never ever thought i'd be pulling for A-Rod...but c'mon baby
  21. I wish we had those when I played ball. I remember going to bat a few times with ice in my helmet...I remember I had to situate it towards the back of my helmet so it wouldn't drip into my eyes.
  22. Most people believe it's greatest benefit would be in the ability to bounce back after an outing. Most pitching steroids help out with recovery time and also quicker reflexes when snapping pitches, etc. My chief suspect of using steroids as a pitcher is Kevin Brown. The types of freaky and oddball injuries that he endures are pretty common among juicers.
  23. Yeah, but it's no less exciting than what it was fifty or sixty years ago. I think baseball has done a poor job marketing itself, not only to black youth but all youth. I dunno, from the point of view of someone who has coached middle school and high school baseball, their attention spans and the shortness thereof, play a massive part in their patience with the game.
  24. Absolutely, I would too. Indeed the problems are numerous as to why there is the decline. He lists several good ones. However, I will take exception with the "lack of suitable facilities in the inner city" argument. Many kids who grew up in New York City or Chicago or other big cities played baseball or stickball in the streets, etc. Clearly, the Caribbeans and South Americans don't have good facilities (they do have open land, I suppose). That being said, the decline of the black ballplayer does sadden me. My high school had about half black/half white. We won the 5A state championship year and year out, so we had a really good program. However, during our season we would play alot of the inner city 99% black public schools in Jackson. We would mercy-rule them every game we played, but it had little to do with talent. It had mostly to do with understanding and training. Most of these guys did not grow up playing baseball and as most of us know, alot of baseball is intuitive and the rules are so very important. So many of these guys were so fast and strong, they could crush the ball or their pitchers could throw the hell out of the ball. Problem was they weren't raised to play ball and so their talent didn't outweigh their lack of training in the game. It's sad indeed and I wish something could change.
