  1. I think like most that as long as ARam, Soriano, and Soto bounce back the Cubs will compete. I think for all the other things that would have to go well if 2 of those 3 dont rebound are beyond the realm of possibility.
  2. that would increase the chances of him getting in a brawls!!
  3. thats exactly what all the Penn St fans said 20 yrs ago
  4. I really hope there is no plausible debate on which outfield is better between 2010 and 2006
  5. Some say black marks; others say brilliance. after ingnoring it for years he then made it an issue about cheating instead of a health issue. I think this is clearly his largest black mark. I enjoy the expanded divisions and dont care about the All Star game enough to be bothered by whatever goes on there
  6. Gawd, I want to beat the Canadians so bad.......I know it won't happen, but man it would be something. Miller would have to steal it...could happen. I dont see USA even medaling, though Sweden has not played well internationally recently. The Czechs always play above their heads at the olympics
  7. do not know if I should put this here or in the olympic thread. http://sports.yahoo.com/olympics/vancouver/blog/fourth_place_medal/post/Russia-over-Canada-U-S-in-key-pre-Olympic-hock;_ylt=ApLTkPkVhR4sp0U0a5KfxRSGsbV_?urn=oly,218250 Not sure how all that is figured out, but on paper I don't see Canada losing. Their defense/goalie situation is just too strong. Luckily Olympic hockey is not played on paper.
  8. That was an excellent game today. You don't [expletive] with Ovechkin. for me, ovechkin is now in pujols/lebron territory as the guy who is just on a completely different level than everybody else in his sport. ovechkin's numbers this year projected over an 82 game season: 68 goals 71 assists 139 points +66 come on. guys don't put those numbers up anymore yah, but other NHL teams and players are required to play defense. something ovechkin doesnt do I would have no problem trading Datsyuk for him even if they were the same age. Datsyuk plays great defense
  9. Versteeg, Barker, Niemi. Done. Upgrade to Sharp if they insist. If we did that trade, would we need to do anything in the offseason to get under the cap? If so I'd be interested in that trade. I think a lot of it depends on how much Hjalmarsson gets. I think it will be more then Hawks fans hope. I wouldnt make this trade if I was the Hawks.

  11. They aren't messing around. But I still can't get past the feeling that they will choke when the pressure ramps up. I think the choking thing is a little overplayed. But they have built up a reputation that creates more pressure. The last 3 playoff losses were more about how good the other team was playing and not so much the Sharks choking. They do need to learn how to step it up a notch in the playoffs though. Adding players like Wallin will help.
  12. http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/news;_ylt=AsdxrhEeXN.7LqrVWmHffVh7vLYF?slug=ap-hurricanes-sharkstrade&prov=ap&type=lgns solid move for San Jose.
  13. yeah i haven't seen any positive comments about leino from wings fans. i think the wings needed to clear some cap space with franzen coming back, so that was one of the motivations for trading leino. i know they were high on him coming into this year, and he had nice stats in finland and in the AHL, but the criticism seems to be that he's slow and tends to float too much. i figure he still has some upside so it's worth a shot. OKT is terrible and shouldn't be used as anything more than a depth defenseman. i'm pretty sure this is a sign that we'd rather use any of our random AHL d-men than use OKT when people get hurt. I think the Wings will also be moving either Lebda or Meech to make room for Lilja. OKT will become like the 8th d-man if that happens
  14. I havent followed this whole thing that closely, so I dont know what punishment would be proper. All I know about is the Reggie Bush/agent thing. If there is more than that, I haven't followed closely enough to know the details. I am not saying USC should go unpunished. I am just saying that the whole system is begging for these type of things to happen. Since we all are part of this system by being fans, we should be careful that we do not pass judgment on other schools just because they are better at playing this system then our school is.
  15. http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=309159 What do you think Truffle? Honestly I think this is just the Wings doing some things to make room to move either Meech or Lebda. Leino has been awful this season. He was okay in limited time last year. He has skill, probably needs to add upper body strength to become a legit NHLer though.
  16. and most every non ND fan in the country was outraged that is all they got
  17. We are basically talking about a system where a large percentage of its players could not even attend their school if they were not football players. The schools themselves have already sold out for the money. Though many of them are public institutions the advantages wealthy donors get inside the programs are screaming for unethical situations. Sadly, I have a problem being too judgmental of USC when Michigan St is probably not doing everything by the books either.
  18. This is just vague hand waving and meaningless rhetoric. What do "sending a message", "token effort", and "coming down really light" even mean? It is a convenient way of giving yourself wiggle room to criticize whatever penalties come down as being too lenient though. and lets be honest, no college fb fan really wants the NCAA to really promote amateurism. The just want it enforced at schools who do better then the team they cheer for
  19. The Four Horsemen of the Blown Save. Dave Smith wants his horse back
  20. who cares who is better now? At this point last year the Pens were struggling to make it to the 8th spot and the Ducks were not even in playoff contention. Yet the Pens won the Stanley Cup and the Ducks were the 2nd best team in the WC last year in the playoffs. Hawks fans should be happy about their success so far this year, but discounting teams at this point of the season is dangerous.
  21. Wow, I thought Atlanta was holding out for more. This move moves the Devils up into being one of the favorites
  22. Are you Jim Hendry? This seems very similar to the logic that I imagine goes through his head.
  23. I dont know if Stan Bowman follows everything his father believes in. I do know as a Red Wing fan that Scotty Bowman is a huge fan of stay at home dmen and values them very highly.
  24. what is his salary? wouldnt the blackhawks have to trade at least equal salary to get Turco? Is he that much better that he would be worth what the Hawks would have to trade to get him? Turco has until a couple of years ago been labeled a playoff goat.
  25. Taveras will earn $4MM in 2010. The speedy 28-year-old was a bust for the Reds in '09, hitting .240/.275/.285 in 437 plate appearances. Dusty is so bad. How in the world did that line get 437 plate appearances?
