  1. Because playing baseball is too expensive for most families to afford these days. Too much pricey equipment and travel. This is the truth about almost every sport. Although if someone chooses in the town I live they can play park district ball for less then $50 a year. All the games are in town. The only equipment they have to have is a glove(some kids play without cleats.) The down side is that one of those kids will probably make the All-Star team. To play All-Stars it would be hard to do without having at least your own bat and cleats. Most parents of All-Star players will not allow other kids to use their kids bats. If you ever had to pay for one you would certainly understand why.
  2. I think Vancouver had several other events scheduled at their arena which caused this issue. Or at least that is what I heard. I wish there was a game tonight because I have little going on and really am not that excited to watch the Cubs.
  3. Kirk Gibson is one of my all-time favorite non Cubs. I have been hoping he succeeds. I dont think it will last this year though.
  4. I dont hold any ill will towards Ryno, but I didnt like the way he left. It is not like he was more qualified then Quade and was slighted. As for the original post in this thread... #-o
  5. I don't think this is about increased revenues. If True North didn't buy the Thrashers, the team might have gone bankrupt and the NHL would have been forced to buy them out. If they were sold for $150 million and the Atlanta Spirit were losing $30 million a year, why keep pouring more money into the team. Bettman and the NHL just didn't want to have to buy out the team. That makes more sense. Still, though, not a good sign for the old NHL. Any more of this and they might want to just start contracting. They should start contracting. Not until Bettman and the NHL stop getting $60 million each time a team moves will they think about it. In the mean time, Bettman might want to try to get a real TV deal. When the Hawks sell out every game, sell tons of clothing and other paraphernalia, and are still forced to pull money from Wirtz's business, you know you have a problem and it's not with the Hawks. Their new tv deal is much better.

  7. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/blog/big_league_stew/post/Danks-Bautista-argue-during-pop-up-evoking-8?urn=mlb-wp8176 interesting exchange between Danks and Bautista. Funny to see that Hawk and Stoney are the only ones who are taking Danks side of this dispute.
  8. I don't think it has anything to do with bunting honestly. Butler had a hell of an eye. He walked a ton to have played in era where it wasn't emphasized as much as it is now. Campana has alot of the same skillset that Butler did, but probably needs to double his walk totals, if he's ever going to have a legit chance at being an everyday player. I agree that the main reason Butler was so good was because he walked a lot. But were his walks totals higher because pitchers were trying to pitch around his bunt attempts?
  9. This is kind of on topic. I have always wondered why guys like Campana cannot become a Brett Butler type of player. Is it because 1b and 3b have become more athletic and bunting for base hits is harder? or did Butler have a certain skill set that allowed him to be very good at bunting for hits that is hard to match?
  10. San Jose was clearly the better team 3 out of 5 games in that series. Hockey can be a funny sport.
  11. SPORTS ILLUSTRATED IS FULL OF MICHIGAN FANS WHO ARE OUT TO GET US!!!!! If OSU fans would just realize that them going on probation does no one in the Big Ten any good...of course it would seem that most fans of other Big Ten schools don't seem to realize this either
  12. I guess they were promised this a while back. Not sure all the details. I do remember with the last expansion the Wings and the Blue Jackets were supposed to end up in the Eastern Conference after some time, but do not remember how it was going to happen. I dont want to sound like a snob Wings fan, but if they do move to the Eastern Conference the Western Conference is going to get almost no coverage on Versus except for some Hawks games. Nashville to the Southeast would make the most sense based on location. I think what would make the most sense is a complete realignment where travel time is evened out more. Maybe a Northern and Southern Conference. The Wings and Blue Jackets being in the Eastern Time Zone really sucks comes playoff time. My guess is that you are probably right, with Minnesota to the Central and Winnipeg to the Northwest edit-It basically sucks for the entire Western Conference.

  14. A lot of talk on a couple of Wings sites saying that this move will also move Detroit to the Eastern Conference
  15. So I have this fear that Vancouver is going to win the cup in a couple of series that are like 4-2, then some meatball Hawks fans are going to say things like "we played them closer then anyone, we are like the 2nd best team"
  16. Somebody doesn't fit here Ron. (To be fair, Wake Forest and Purdue are next on the list.) I think if you were to look at the overall impact of Guenther on the entire athletic program then he has done a fair job. They have had a huge amount of positive facility upgrades in his tenure. I understand the negatives, but I don't think it was beyond belief that he still had a job.
  17. I know he is another year older but has seemed to level off at a 25 point clip. Would the Hawks/fans be interested in bringing back John Madden. I think a guy who is solid in face offs and could play on the PK would be a good pick up for the Hawks, especially if he could be had at 1.5. I also think he would solidify any 3/4 line that he was playing on and really help young players adjust to those type of roles.
  18. seems like the market should be saturated with those things...if they would just look on ebay they could probably get them for a lot less then $50
  19. But HGH is not illegal because it makes you good at baseball..it is illegal because it is addictive and harmful. If protein shakes were addictive and harmful to your health would they also be a PED?
  20. I will trade you Filppula for Sharp. I disagree with you assessment that he is awful at defense. I am not saying he is a selke candidate but he is not awful. The Hawks have a forward making 6.5 million who is not as good defensively. Also just the eye test it seems like Sharp is solid in the corners. I like Sharp as a player and would love it if the Wings make a move to get him after next season. Especially if he can be had for something close to what his cap hit currently is.
  21. I think that I read somewhere that all the teams that had given up 3-0 leads, but came back to win game 7 have all gone on to win the Stanley Cup. I am not sure that Vancouver are actually playoff chokers, its not like they have been a top seed any time recently.
  22. I think Vancouver. They have the big named goalie, they are the top seed and I think several of their top dmen are free agents Agreed. Still more pressure on Vancouver. Mostly because they play in Vancouver, and not California. and that also

  24. 2nd period was almost a complete switch except the Wings only got one goal...great game so far
  25. If he doesn't start 80% of the games, Quade needs to be fired on the spot. And then tar and feathered. So far Quade has impressed me with his reluctance to give Hill playing time. I would be happy if it is just 50/50 while Soto is out considering the past management.
