  1. I like many here have never really enjoyed Pink Floyd. I also think that Appetite for Destruction is one of the greatest albums ever. However the rest of GnRs collections isnt very good and not as good as almost anything Pink Floyd has done. Should I vote for a Band who has one Album that I truly love but the rest of their stuff I dont like or a Band that I like some but dont own any of their Albums but have put together a lot larger of a collection of solid music? I will probably come back to this later
  2. Ole Miss I think musically there is no doubt that the Beatles were Rock. What has been metioned about them being Pop though may have been some of their earlier lyrics. She Love Me yeah yeah yeah. I still say they were lyrically subdued until the Rolling Stones threw a nastier streak into the mix. I dont mean to diss the Beatle I certainly think they are great. You are right on about Revolver, I think it is a great Album. I think what is truly amazing is just how influential both of the Beatles and Stones were how rock music was radically changed after they came into being. Even that being said until the Beatles radio was getting dominated by the likes of Perry Como. Say what anyone wants about them but their music, showmanship and charisma changed music. If you really listen and do away with studio tricks and technical advancements it really hasnt changed a lot since them.
  3. Kind of off subject but I want to throw a name out there and a stat. Dave Kingman in 1979 had a ops of .956. To me Soriano is Kingman with speed. He may be having a great year this year and I dont want to take that away from him. I just look at his Entire career and say to myself "Someones going to give this guy 12 Mill for the next 5 years and I hope its not the Cubs"
  4. Thames would be a great platoon partner with Jones. I am not sure on his ability to play RF though. I pretty sure he has been primarily a LFer DH this year. I dont want Monroe though for some reason I could see the Cubs thinking he is quality.
  5. I would say there really isnt much more to evaluate with Dusty. He has been here 3 2/3 of a season. He really has been the same guy from day 1. I think that Hendry wants to keep him he is just waiting for an opportunity to do it. So unless we just completely go in another tailspin I think he is going to stay until the end of the season. I was wrong about Rusch getting Marshalls start and I hope I am wrong about this.
  6. I am really happy to wrong about this. I really hope that Hill is allowed to start the rest of the season. Lets take an extended look at him. If he shows no signs of getting it together at the ML level than at least we would know.
  7. I would say let him pitch. Most pitchers do take a beating whenthey first come up. Let him pitch thru it. I would let him pitch the rest of the season. Nothing to lose and we would have a good evaluation of him as a major league pitcher. My guess is its not going to happen.
  8. I was thinking about this some and something that I have found is it is hard to call a band overrated or underrated. It really is all about personal taste. A whole bunch of people must not agree with the Springsteen is overrated thing because he has sold millions albums over the years. Personnally I would take Appetite for Destruction over any Springsteen album but GnR never came close to being that good again. Also if you went with a large scale national poll of who was the better band I do believe Springsteen would win. Is this because they are overrated? Really what does this all boil down to except personal taste.
  9. Hasnt Pierre always been a slow starter? If so couple that with the fact that ARam is also a slow starter that would really put our offense in a bind the first couple of months of the season. Especially if the manager continues to bat him lead-off with a .260 obp. I am glad he is doing better. By all accounts he is a great guy. I would just rather gamble on another option. For Pierre to be a good lead-off man he would have to hit at least .310. I think there is better gambles to be had. I would just let Pie do it instead of Pierre. I wouldnt mind being 20 games below .500 with a rookie. Pie upside is a lot better than Pierre. For those who say that he isnt ready ask yourself this, How many of Floridas players were "ready" when they came up. I know they are not winning but they are on their way. If the Cubs stay with players like Pierre I would say that they are not even on their way.
  10. I still have my money on Rusch making Marshalls start. Jack Nicholson in "As Good As It Gets" when a secretary asked him how he write about Women so well "I take a man and throw away all logic and common sense" This is the exact same strategy the Cubs use when making decisions
  11. Hasnt Murton been pretty good lately also? I just cant figure this out. Neifi should never play against a RH pitcher. I at least understand if he is playing against a LHer. He should never, never, never bat 2nd.
  12. I cant wait until he finishes with better numbers than Crede. I know he has taken a lot of criticism this year but Aram is basically doing what he has done in the past. I would say that the team that is put together with 2 guys on offense who are historically poor starters Pierre and ARam and than add the fact that another key component got hurt Lee. Than throw in the fact that the bench is not good and we are trying to work in a couple of young players it just made for a disaster. When Lee got hurt a lot was expected from a player that has never really been a first half performer.
  13. I really dont have much of an issue with Biggio being the best 2nd baseman in his tenure in Baseball. I know we as Cub fans are supposed to bow down to our guy Sandberg and Sandberg was great. I do think that a legitimate arguement that Biggio is better could be made. I have always admired Biggio and wished the Cubs would get more players like him. I think that if we were in Dierkers shoes we would probably go with Biggio also. On a side note didnt we not go after Biggio when he was a free agent because Sandberg came back. I love Sandberg but if we didnt get Biggio because of that it really didnt work out well for the Cubs in the long run. I really liked his philosophy on the intentional walk. I almost always am against it unless it is walking the 8th hitter to get to the pitcher with runners in scoring position. Most other cases I think you are just adding fuel to the fire.
  14. If Marshall misses a start I am willing to make a large wager that Rusch will take his spot. It is really obvious if you follow the Cubs at all.
  15. If we are justifying paying a underperforming pitcher 5 to 6 mill a yr becuase he is good with our young pitchers we really have a problem. Just another thing that is wrong with how the Cubs are run. By the way how has all that expertise he has worked with Wood and Prior. I still say if any kind of prospect(s) can be had for him I would say move him. Its not that I hate Greg Maddux, I just think he symbolizes what has been wrong with the Cubs for years. Keep guys around who are popular that are not performing. Worse yet acquire a player who is well past prime and pay a high price to get him. His spot in the rotation would just be wasted while a player who may have a future with the Cubs when they are championship contenders is wasting away at AAA or in the bullpen.
  16. Okay I was a little quick. Didnt realize he has a no trade. I am guessing he would wave if circumstances are right. About trading a future HOFer, I would have no issues. Its not like he put up most of his HOF numbers with the Cubs. I agree the Cubs mishandled his situation in the early 90s, however its not like he showed us some sort of blind loyalty either. The Cubs owe Gregg Maddux nothing except his contract. If he sticks to he no trade than so be it. If we are not trading him because we want to keep him I still say that is a stupid move. We can probably get more in return than he will ever be worth to us in the future.
  17. The Kinks. I am not even sure why Pantera made the list of top 64 bands ever
  18. I'm on my lunch break and didnt read all the posts. This has to be the most inexcusable lineup that Dusty has ever had. What the heck is a team 21 games below .500 doing fielding this lineup?
  19. If the Cubs dont trade Maddux they are the stupidest organization in all of sports. He is not good. He has value. He shouldnt be brought back next year under any circumstance. He didnt seem to have any issues leaving the Cubs before. If the Cubs show him some sort of blind loyalty and not trade him for this reason it just would show how stupid of an outfit the Cubs are. Basically they wouldnt trade him because they are afraid of a little bad PR. That is just stupid and plays right into what most people really think the Cubs are about
  20. The Giants had a catcher in the late 80s early 90s. I cant remember his name but he was supposed to be real good. Never made it.
  21. Can Breast Cancer play a corner outfield spot? How is he hitting against guys not named Rusch? I about wet myself I laughed so hard.
  22. Cory Snyder
  23. I wish the Cubs would do a Marlins. Of course I wouldnt want Hendry involved.
  24. My brother who lives in the Bay area and is a big Giants fan warned me when the Cubs got Baker. He basically said that he will not play young position players and will overuse pitchers. I remember in 03 being 50/50 on Baker. Couldnt argue against a guy who had the Cubs winning. I was just infuriated about his treatment of Bellhorn, Choi and Cruz. Sadly in Cruz's and Bellhorn's case it was for such great players like Lenny Harris and Shawn Estes. I was so upset with Dusty after game 6 of the LCS I wanted him fired right then. Letting Alou make too much of a deal out of the Bartman ball, not even having someone warming up going into the inning with Prior coming upon 100 pitches. Since then I havent looked back. Dusty is the most overrated manager in all of baseball. Probably my most disliked figure in all of sports at this point.
  25. Probably the 2 least musically talented bands in the competition. Give them both credit that neither one ever tried to become what they were not though.
