  1. I wouldnt go as far as calling them blues bands however all the ones I mentioned above certainly have a strong blues feel to them. Not so much what we hear on the Radio from them but if you listened to albums from all of these bands they all certainly have a strong blues influence. I would check out the Stones stuff from the late 60s early 70s. Not any recent stuff.
  2. These 2 bands and Pink Floyd are why I cant listen to Classic Rock stations. Though the music isnt similar they do have the same problems on classic rock stations. Most of their better stuff doesnt get played. I throw up just about everytime I hear Freebird or Bohemian Rhapsody. Than the next hour its Gimme 3 steps and We will Rock you/Champions. Lynard Skynard, ZZ Top and The Allman Bros are all 3 good blues based rock bands with a Southern style. I never really enjoyed Queen as much though they have had great moments like Fat Bottom Girls. I thought this was going to be a hard vote but it really was easier than I thought. Lynard Skynard. Question for Derwood. Do you hate the Blues? Seems like every band so far that is very bluesy like the Stones, Clapton, Allman bros and Lynard Skynard you dislike. Bands that are more technical and good lyriscist you seem to enjoy more.
  3. Both great bands with distinctive sounds. I voted Doors because LA Woman is one of my favorite songs ever. I like CCR a lot but they didnt do anything that good
  4. Not to throw water on the attention to more walks campaign that Dusty is throwing. The same inning that Barrett, Nevin and Murton walked to produce a run both Neifi and Aram swang at ball 4 on 3-1 counts. We really should have blown the game wide open that inning but poor plate discipline by those guys left it closer than it should have been. If Dusty does improve the OBP during the second half, I think this would just add to the reasons he should be fired. It would than become clear that he and the coaching staff stressed aggressive hitting earlier in the season when we were colapsing.
  5. If he is hurt I would most certainly shut him down. Whats the point of playing him. If Dusty is playing him to keep his job, just another reason why he needs to be fired today. On a side bar kind of on subject. Would keeping Phil Nevin next year be a bad idea. If he could be had for 2 mill, I think he would be a good guy to have on the bench. A lot better than what we had. I know he isnt a good defensive player but can play all 4 corners if need be, be a 3rd catcher. RH power hitter. Hits lefties well. I know we will trade him but wouldnt he be an interesting pick up for our bench next season
  6. Wow Dusty doesnt seem to mind ripping Walker. Also doing whatever he can to lower his trade value. These are the reasons Dusty has to go. It is most obvious that this team needs to be in future mode. Dusty is still concerned about his old horses. We lived this bad dream last year. The Cubs need to move on as an organization.
  7. According to Jason Stark on Sportscenter this morning the Dodgers are calling all the time asking about Maddux. He mentioned several other teams also but made special note of the Dodgers. I definetly think that Maddux is going to be gone. I hope he can get us at least a b list prospect.
  8. Bad draw for REM. Voted for Hendrix obviously. Not sure how he got in best band. What happened to the Experience after Hendrix died. Did either Redding or the other guy whos name slips my mind now have any kind of music career after Hendrix. I love Jimmy but this is certainly a solo act if I have ever seen one
  9. I thought it was an easy vote also. The Clash. Punk Rock band that grew up and made some really good music. Too bad that they are most represented on classic radio by "Should I stay or Should I Go" and "Rock the Casbach" Metallica is probably the greatest Metal band of all time. More creative than most. Way to high of a seed from an obvious Metal fan who is running the poll though.
  10. Also the Cubs already have a guy who is a notorious 2nd half player (ARam) having 2 players in key offensive roles who are not going to play well the first half would put a lot of pressure on the rest of the order. I would take Brady Clark in a heart beat over Pierre. As a matter of fact I would send the Brewers Pierre and Maddux for Clark and ptbnl, right now.
  11. If the article wasnt dumb enough with the Dusty stuff, Then he brings in some bang up suggestions like keep Pierre trade Barrett. What a dumb article. Did you also notice that Todd Walker was being scapegoated in this article. Is he this years Sammy. Dont look at the real problems Cub fans look at this shiny article we keep waving in your face. That is the problem not management. You are getting sleepy, sleepy. What is wrong with the Cubs this year is Todd Walker, Now buy a season ticket package for next year when we scapegoat Michaeal Barrett.
  12. Funny how the Who are seeded 2nd. Pete Townsend always wished the Who were as good as the Kinks. Still voted for them over Genesis though
  13. I am not a big CSNY fan. However I am voting for them for Neil Young and Crazy Horse, Best Band left out of tourney.
  14. DFA Walker his mother wears combat boots. Just kidding. I will miss him when he goes. Very productive player. Overshadowed in his poor night is the fact that in the 1st and 2nd inning he made sure he pulled the ball to make sure Pierre got to 3rd. I do understand besides OBP Walker doesnt provide a lot, however these players have everything Walker has except OBP Pierre, Perez, Cedeno, Pagan, Bynum, Mabry. Of these guys only Perez is a good defensive player. I admit Walker hasnt been stellar since early in the season but he is far from the worst player on this team. This isnt even accounting for the pitchers.
  15. For you guys who don't like the Stones I would like to point something out. If it wasnt for the Rolling Stones you would probably be listening to Pop music all day. The Stones smashed thru the door of the overly sugar pop crap that was all that got played on the Radio. Even the Beatles who started before the Stones were influenced by them. They put down the pop and picked up an edgier style after the Stones got big. You may not like them but they are easily the MOST influencial rock-n-roll band ever. If you don't want to believe that ask Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Ozzy Osbourne, Jimi Hendrix or the thousands of rock-n-rollers who came after. The Stones brought the Blues bassed sound to mainstream rock-n-roll, which led to most of the hard rock and heavy metal sounds. Okay I am off my high horse. By the way I voted for the Stones.
  16. I want to hear how Morgan defends Dusty for not only starting Mabry but batting him anywhere but 8th.
  17. Since 1965 we have produced 3 HOF that have spent the majority of their careers somewhere else. Joe Carter, Rafeal Palmero and Greg Maddux. We have produce 0 HOFers that have played for the Cubs.
  18. Inability to bring postition players up from the minor leagues that have value to the Cubs. Since 1965 the Cubs have only brought up 2 players that have become everyday players for the Cubs for more than 3 years. Dunston and Grace. Things like this makes you not believe in curses but bad decisions have a lot more to do with the Cubs failures
  19. I thought you had them ranked at first and not in alphabetical order. So I say Bench and Berra and said yeah okay but than Bob Boone and i went "What the" Than I saw it was in alphabetical order and realized my error. I havent looked up numbers or anything I just am going on my gut 1. Bench 2. Berra 3. IRod 4. Dickey 5. Fisk 6. Hartnett 7. Cochrane 8. Piazza probably would have ranked higher if he wasnt my least favorite player 9. Darrell Porter 10. Jody Davis personal fav or mine What I want to know and maybe I should look up his numbers before I shoot off my mouth but what is Tim McCarver doing on the list. Wasnt he a career back up except for a couple of seasons in St Louis
  20. At least some national writers will say what is truly wrong with the Cubs as oppossed to ARam doesnt hustle. I am glad he wrote it and hope him and others like Bruce will keep writing it. It may even start to get mentioned in the Trib and on WGN, now that would be a revolution.
  21. One of my all time favorite record reviews in Rolling Stone magazine was for an early Aerosmith album. The reviewer called Aerosmith the Rolling Stones' sloppy seconds. They looked, sounded like and behaved very much like the Stones. Question about Whitestripes, I havent heard a lot of them but what I have heard they sound like a Christian band to me. Are they a Christian band? or are they like Creed and have some Christian upbringing that comes out in their music but chose not to be labeled that way?
  22. Not only are the Astros better this year it is a team that has had a lot of success in the last 10 years. why good teams are good and bad teams are bad.
  23. If trading Walker means pt for Theriot or Fontenot than I would say get to it. However if we trade him and Dusty Dumps is still managing it will mean more time for Neifi, which will just plain make me mad!!!!!!!! How is Neifi not on the trading block? For all those national espn guys who are always defending Dusty you would think that one of Dustys boys would have a large trade value.
  24. I am glad that you put Hendry as #1. I agree that Baker is a lousy manager but Hendry's blame goes much deeper. Including keeping our lousy manager. The thing that has always bothered me is that Hendry gets a lot of credit for bringing in 3 guys Barrett, Lee and ARam. Which admittingly are upgrades over what the team had at the time. He also probably gets too much credit for the Hundley trade. Though the 2 players he got were important reasons for the 2003 season, neither was unreplaceable. They also only played a combined 3 years with the team. This trade was not like Sosa for George Bell or anything like that. It was a good move nothing more. Lastly it has been over 2 1/2 yrs since any of these moves have been made. Hendry has also "finally" improved the bullpen, after throwing darts at the board for 4 years it is better than it was in 2003. So except for C, 1b, 3b and bullpen the Cubs are about equal or worse at all other areas of the team since 2003. Our starting pitching isnt even close. Though some because of injuries but at what point do you stop relying on the injuried players. Though our bench wasnt exactly filled with studs in 2003 it was better then the bench is now. We are way below at LF, RF, CF and SS(yes AGone put up an equal obp as cedeno with power and better defense) than we were in 2003. About equal at 2b if Walker is getting majority of starts. So the about %75 of the team is below what it was in 2003. Only 3 or 4 of guys on the current roster can be expected to improve in the future. Lastly the minor league system went from being in everyones top ten 5 years ago to being in everyones bottom 10 now. Hendry has gotten a lot of credit for a couple of big splashes but has tore down a solid base with little to build on in the next couple of years. That with a record of throwing money at bad "projects" and inability to get rid of a bad coaching staff has this ship sinking and probably not going to get better in the next couple of years
  25. what does his dad have to do with it? Did he say never to the extension or never that the extension existed? Is Dustys dad alive? this whole mess just seems to get stranger by the day
