  1. Ducks over nucks 3-1 after one. Just got home and turned it on.
  2. His one hit tonight must not have been real timely since they got shutout. Somehow I am guessing if I listen to Chicago Sports radio tomorrow this will all be Brian Andersons fault though. Darin just didnt come up with any big hits because Anderson batted last. Speaking of Anderson though. He was DHing. Isnt he by far the White Sox best defensive outfielder? They had an outfield of Ozuna, Erstad and Macowiak. Anderson is clearly better than all 3 of these guys in the OF. Ozzie is just pure genius.
  3. It should be a lottery. Buy as many $1 tickets as you want. They pull out 81 winners a year. All proceeds go to charity. Like resigning Z
  4. What it is called is lack of vision. This is what keeps guys like Darin Erstad even in the league. So to validate the silly notion that you can when with past prime players who have a name they recognize, They have to make a valid arguement for more vision look silly. Hence they bring up guys like Bobby Hill(who still was probably at least as good as the crap we have had a 2nd base for the last several years) Juan Cruz(who still was better than Jason Bere in 2002 shawn Estes in 2003) and Hee Sop Choi(who still was good enough to net us a superstar 1b in Derek Lee. The truth though that the sticking Cubs have not won a WS in 100 years with the likes of Cliff Floyd never seems to enter their mind though.
  5. Murton had good games his last 3 starts also. Didnt earn him squat.
  6. Is Murton below Cedeno in Lou Pinellas world.
  7. I'm guessing the reason now is that Pie is up for his defensive prowess in CF, so that only leaves 1 spot for JJ, Floyd, and Murton (in that order, I think). But I'd like to know why Murton is 3rd in the pecking order there. I don't think he's 3rd in the pecking order. My guess is that while this situation continues that Murton will get the 2nd most starts there. If he's not 3rd in the pecking order then why is he getting significantly less starts than the other two? A conundrum. He's not third in the pecking order now. Jones is the primary RF. Murton will get the starts against LH's. Floyd will have quite a bit of trouble getting many starts at all until Jones is traded. Floyd has started 50% of the games since Soriano has been back. Murton has started 0%. Its only 2 games, but I don't understand where your argument is coming from. Lou announced yesterday that in most games for a while, he has come to a set lineup. It includes Jones but not Floyd. Considering that Murton will still start against LH, that makes the only chance for a Floyd start something like possibly today when Soriano is likely sitting. Does it not include Theriot either?
  8. Truth be told Hendry ran this offseason like he was Al Davis. Big Names Big Money. He did not objectively look at the longterm strengths and weaknesses of the team. Since his job was on the line he just threw money at stuff he thought would get us in the playoffs in our lousy division and save his job. Corner outfield was nowhere near the weakness of this team last year, yet that is what he seemed to concentrate on offensively. He also didnt see the value in Theriot and Murton longterm and brought in guys to cover there spots. No matter what WarrenBrusster said this offseason did more longterm damage to the Cubs than he wishes to acknowledge.
  9. I think I found a sig. beat you to it. though the more the merrier
  10. What's their record when Theriot starts? I looked this up at the same time, but forgot. Its something like 3-5
  11. My excitement over Hill pitching is quickly subdued by Theriot and Murton not playing.
  12. God that scares me so much. Lou has turned out to be atrocious at handling Murton just as Dusty was. Dusty was better. Though he didnt have Floyd and Soriano either.
  13. No, I don't think so. Because Terry seems to be disparaging the talents of that SS who is going to be converted: That's not always true. I think there are cases where a player gets moved from SS because there is someone else in his way also. Sandberg being a example. Theriot was playing 2nd last year because our management team at the time had faith in Izturis and Cedeno. If Maddux wasnt traded for Izturis but for a outfielder instead would Theriot have played some SS last fall? I know Izturis was hurt but he was pencilled in as the SS for the next few years already.
  14. 2nd round predictions. Sabres over Rangers in 5. No contest Sens over Devils in 6 This should really be a great series. Hard to pick against the Devils in the playoffs Ducks over Canucks in 6 I know I predicted the Canucks to beat the Ducks earlier but I was mildly angry at a post and may have said things I out of haste. Luongo could steal series but doubt it Wings over Sharks in 7 Again this should be a great series. Sharks dominated in reg season. Contrary to Barry Melrose the Wings played real well in first round. Both teams have playoff demons.
  15. Arm strength can be overcome. Again a reference to Eckstein. He has a poor arm and yet positions himself well and isnt a defensive liability.
  16. I always thought of Theriot as a Eckstein type player. Can he learn to adjust to his weaknessess at SS?
  17. One of the reasons I quit playing softball was because of the technology of bats. Everyone was hitting HRs.
  18. I think it hurts players like Murton. Not so much were he is hitting but that he seems to only start sporadically. Hits well when he does. Is complete garbage off the bench.
  19. Didnt Lou have bullpen problems in Seatle also.
  20. It's never too early for a fire sale. Too Bad noone in Cubs management has the testicles to do one
  21. where is it being argued that murton is a superstar? we're arguing that he's better than floyd (who has average to below average speed and certainly below average defense now, as well). So this is the official Northsidebaseball boogeyman of the 2007 season? A .820 OPS messageboard hero is getting a 60/40 split of at bats with a .800 OPS board persona non grata. If we are talking about 2 25 year old players or 2 34 year old players than it would be a silly arguement. To say that Murton and Floyd are of equal value is ridiculous. Lets put them on the trade market and see who gets more value in return. The arguement is about the same ole same ole Cub philosophy of not letting young players play. We cannot get enough of other teams rejects. Truth is the Mets brought in Moises Alou to replace Cliff Floyd. This speaks volumns of how the Cubs are run.
  22. Truth is Steve Stone is a old school baseball man who doesnt do any radical thinking. Truthfully have the Cubs ever had a manager who would have done something like bench Juan Encarcion during the playoffs and put a 21 yr old rookie who never played the position out there because he was hitting better. Have the Cubs ever had a manager who would have left Jason Marquis off the World Series roster last year and started Anthony Reyes instead. These are what championship level managers do. The bottom line is the Cubs always do the safe thing. Well a battleship is safe in the harbor but its not doing its job. The Cubs are so stuck in the old school mentality of the game and Lou Piniella is one of the better old school managers.
  23. I thought The 2 kids and a goat line was Zetterberg, Datsyuk and Hull? I think it was in 02-03. The year they won the Stanley Cup I think it was someone else besides Zetterburg as jaydee had pointed out. I looked up Zetterburgs career numbers and his rookie season was 02-03. So it had to be someone else in 01-02. I just googled it. It was originally Datsyuk-Hull-Deveraux but Zetterberg later replaced Deveraux. I guessed Deveraux in a earlier post, well except I misspelled his name.
