  1. I disagree. They weren't getting Jimbo or Herman and they wanted to save face by hiring the players' choice. Not exactly the best rationale for hiring a coach, granted, but in the end O should do well for LSU. As long as he is a CEO type coach and keeps recruiting like he does, LSU can pay assistants whatever they want to run the offense and defense. Hate to say it, but it was a good hire for them.
  2. Completely irrational, but the thought of Javy, Schwarbs and Super Eloy on another team is sorta sad. I could probably comfort myself with the multiple WS wins.
  3. 1. He's annoying 2. There have been better players 3. There have been bigger fan favorites 4. He's being mentioned in the same sentence as two HOFers and a guy who arguably pitched the best game in MLB history 5. Celebrating him as an all-time Cub implies that we just love his Harry schtick.
  4. Why does everyone keep lumping in Dempster with the likes of Billy Williams, Kerry Wood and Ryno? What exactly did he do that makes him a part of Cubs lore? A legendary Harry Caray impression amirite? Maybe it's his general jackassedry like that impression that makes me dislike him so much. But as far as pure Cubs baseball resume, why then are we not similarly celebrating Kevin Tapani? Jon Lieber?

  6. let's see how they like it
  7. It's actually been a pretty calm Series for me (thank you whiskey!) but this morning and all day I have been nervous as horsefeathers. My mom would be going nuts tonight if she were still around. Go Cubs.
  8. Geez, between you and brinoch it really is reunion week.
  9. Smoltz really isn't all that bad until he gets gets more than 8 seconds of time to speak. His strategy opinions are so stupid even Joe Buck won't engage him.
  10. My feeling like that comes from the win last night. After going down 3-1, I just wanted the Cubs to win a game at Wrigley and not go down with a whimper like last season vs the Dodgers. I can exhale a little now, relax, and ease into Game 6 without being such a nervous wreck. Well, until Game 7. I'll be a total horsefeathers show if that happens. When you mix up 2008 and 2015 in your mind. Mets, whatever. Just as painful.

  12. Based on nothing at all, I'm happy to see Ross in the lineup. He seems to be a calming affect on the defense.
  13. Because I am neurotic, I am posting in tonight's game thread because last night I didn't and we lost. So...sup guys?
  14. "So Kyle, do feel physically like you're able to play the field?" "I don't know. I haven't tried it. I'll try it out and see how it goes." I love this.
  15. Love this thread. 8-)
  16. love andygator 8.6 percent alcohol. Pacing in order.
  17. You literally used the words "no reason to escape vitriol". Maybe you you should know what a word means before criticizing others reading comprehension. Vitriol - speech, writing, etc, displaying rancour, vituperation, or bitterness. Not reasonable accountability or criticism, etc. No reason to escape the vitriol that Cutler and Soriano faced, is what I said. Why are they different? FWIW, I think neither Soriano nor Cutler deserved the level of criticism they received. But WHY did they get it and Heyward seemingly gets a pass? If it's because of the World Series, then I can live with that reason. Anyway, this is my last reply on the subject. There's kind of an important game tonight. Jesus, ya'll shut up. It's almost game time.
  18. Just hit the bar after work and got my first Andygator and Jameson shot. I've been calm all day but seriously got chills when I saw the Cubs scoreboard lineup. It's real now. Let's do this! I really think Ross at catcher vs the Indians running game is huge. And Javy, of course.
  19. I assumed it was a reference to that terrible Matchbox 20 song in the 90's.
  20. As great of a story it would be for Schwarber to make the roster, I can't help but think LaStella is the better option. I want it to be Schwarber, but he can't play defense and would be a liability on the bases, so it's basically home run or nothing. I won't be surprised at all if the Cubs decide to go the safe route. Late innings, tight game, 2 outs and RISP, I much rather would want a likely rusty Schwarber over Tommy La Stella. If he gets a hit and knocks in 2, let Almora run for him.
  21. I had a strange feeling of confidence all day yesterday that theCubs would win. The only time I got nervous was when Travis Wood was warming up. I kept it together just fine...until the old ladies in the front row. That got me.
  22. Sorry not sorry if already posted.
  23. WTF is Smoltz talking about pulling Hendricks, like it's some foregone conclusion?
