I mean it was a gamble, but one that allowed them to get a pitcher with elite closer upside at an affordable rate. And he did just that for half a season, maybe he can do that for another half of a season. But I don't hate the move, especially because the Cubs built a pretty deep pen around him with Cishek, Strop, Edwards, Wilson, Monty (forgetting someone?) and supplementing during the season with Chavez when Morrow was still healthy. They certainly had plenty of depth to sustain the injury. Even when Strop went down and Edwards completely lost it, the Cubs were able to put together some semblance of a decent pen. That decision to bat Strop when he subsequently pulled his hammy pisses me off every time I think about it.
