  1. Feel free to beat the Mets, though. Just keep 6 feet from them while doing it.
  2. Even the 1906 Cubs who have the record for best winning pct in history only started that season 10-6. They did close the season 55-8, which is an absurd stretch that still encompasses the best 60 games stretch in MLB history.
  3. Yes but I guarantee you that if the Cubs had an unfortunate outbreak next week, the MLB would probably make them send South Bend to Chicago because they can’t afford any more teams missing 3 weeks of games. Crock of horsefeathers. Also why are they forcing the Cubs to play 2 doubleheader’s next week? The Cardinals are going to play 8 games in 5 days and they come to Wrigley twice this year. Make them play a doubleheader on the next series, and a second doubleheader the next time they come to town. They can make up the 3rd game if it’s needed after the season. 2 doubleheaders this week actually works out better for the Cubs with an off day Thursday (the Cardinals are scheduled to play Thursday already), and can avoid having games backloaded for the last 2 weeks while the Cardinals have effectively 20 games scheduled for the last 14 days of the season (including all 10 games against MIL).
  4. In the month of August, the Cubs bullpen has been worth 0.4 WAR, with positive contributions from Jeffress, Wick, Rea, Tepera, and Sadler. Ryan had the bad outing on August 1st but has been effective otherwise. Kimbrel...well, he hasn't been given an opportunity to blow games of late, so he's in a good spot.
  5. I added expanded rosters to the poll, but it blew away the prior answers so, well, just answer again I guess.
  6. Thanks to the shortened season, MLB has applied new rules to the game to keep things moving and keep the season as efficient as possible. Which of these new rules are you hoping to stick around? (3 votes total)
  7. They sound like dudebros with a d-list sports podcast.
  8. Meanwhile, in the AL, there are already 7 teams at better than 83% to make the playoffs, since there is currently a huge projection divide between what are effectively the 7 good AL teams (Yankees, Astros, Twins, A's, White Sox, Indians, Rays) and the 8 not so good AL teams (Royals, Mariners, Rangers, Tigers, Orioles, Blue Jays, Red Sox, Angels). Somebody has to take that 8th spot though. Such is the season and playoff structure that only the Pirates are currently projected to finish more than 5 games out of a playoff spot. So we could have a scenario where almost nobody is eliminated from playoff contention going into the final week of the season (assuming the season gets to the final week), along with the caveat that there are at least 3-4 teams that have to make up multiple games after that last week.
  9. In a short season, I don't care. I'd rather be 9-2 with a horsefeathers RD, than 5-6 with a +15 RD. Sox beat the Brewers again, and the Cardinals went to a casino. Despite the Cardinals having their season postponed for a week, they've lost more recently than the Cubs.
  10. The Dusty works in mysterious ways.
  11. I will say the Blackhawks really took the Edmonton crowd out of this game early.
  12. Blackhawks have scored more goals in the first period here than in their entire last playoff series in 2017.
  13. Also I forgot how much I wanted the Blackhawks to beat Mike Smith from that playoff series some years back.
  14. The Blackhawks are playing right now, in a game that matters, and Chelsea Dagger plays when they score in Edmonton!
  15. Honestly, should probably be 2 weeks.
  16. [tweet] [/tweet]
  17. You tricked me, but wait, no it doesn't. Doesn't matter, I'm calling them the WTFs for the foreseeable future.
  18. The Washington NFL franchise has decided to punt on the name for this year, and will simply be known as the Washington Football Team, shortened of course to WTF.
  19. It is spring training. There are no meaningful conclusions to be drawn other than "nobody got hurt today".
  20. I mean, if ever there were a season to go to automated strike calls...
  21. Great individual effort from Pulisic to put Chelsea up 1-0 on Man City. Also terrible defending. But Pulisic beat both central defenders to score.
  22. I'd say there's a good chance MLS happens this year. NBA could happen but suddenly Orlando is the worst place to have it. NHL should be fine overall. MLB would be fine if the owners cared about anything other than their bottom line. NFL is probably going to happen but shouldn't.
  23. I remember savoring the sweep of Miami in 07 the year after they beat the Bulls in the playoffs. 91 vs Detroit must have been that times, I don't know, 200? I was 12 when this was all going on in 1991, and that series was everything anyone ever talked about at school while it was happening. The closest feeling I could liken that to was the 2016 NLCS game 6 at Wrigley, where the Bulls jumped on the Pistons early and never let up, except for 4 games instead of 1. It was a week long party.
