  1. I thought Busio was outstanding the last 20 minutes or so - the difference in the game for me. I think it showed his composure. Acosta is terrible. the announcers were talking him up but I was terrified every time he had the ball. Nice for Hoppe - he's a bit out of control but sure plays hard. They were better overall after they swapped Acosta and Dike out for Roldan and Zardes, really dominated the ball and the chances from then on, really deserved that goal late. Qatar should be an interesting matchup, especially since they've got their full A team because they aren't doing any world cup qualifying.
  2. Arriola and Acosta were not good tonight. Back line was solid all night, front line had trouble all night getting much of anything going, still effectively dominated the game outside of a 15-ish minute stretch near the end of the first half. The US midfield has been weak all tournament, which at the same time makes me glad that none of their best 4-5 midfielders are in there, and concerned that the midfield pool is as thin as 4-5 at the top. Busio has shown flashes but wasn't great today either.
  3. Kampf is a symbol of the Hawks' struggle since 2015.
  4. One of England, Denmark, Czech Republic or Ukraine will be in the final. Go Denmark!
  5. Or Hungary, if they win.
  6. I generally do not have a Euro 2020 rooting interest, but I am definitely rooting for Denmark to get to the knockout round after that UEFA fiasco over the Erikson tragedy. So far so good, with Denmark up 4-1 while Belgium leads Finland 2-0. Scores staying like that would put Denmark 2nd in the group and they'd advance automatically.
  7. But their first two qualifiers are Jamaica and Costa Rica, not Jamaica and Panama. EDIT: It's first two home qualifiers, which are Jamaica and Canada.
  8. Interestingly enough, neither of these teams has the worst road record in baseball, as the Colorado Rockies are 5-27 on the road for the season.
  9. Embiid and Curry were the only two Sixers who scored from the field in the second half.
  10. Canada is in the final round of qualifying for the first time in 20 years thanks to this golazo v Haiti:
  11. Joining the final round of CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying along with USA, Mexico, Costa Rica, Honduras and Jamaica will be El Salvador, Canada and Panama. USMNT opens WCQ at El Salvador, followed by home v Canada.
  12. BRB, adjusting "favorite Cubs players" list from Javy, Contreras and Bryant to...Javy, Contreras and Bryant.
  13. That was a fun week. Dominated Honduras to the point where they stalled basically the entire second half just to try to take it to penalties, then beat Mexico in a game where the USMNT back line was basically Brooks and nothing until the 80th minute, followed by Mexico realizing they were outclassed on talent and had to goon up the rest of the game to stay with them. Then the B team just absolutely demolishes Costa Rica just for funsies after the real games happened.
  14. First round of CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying is done now, with group winners being El Salvador, Canada, Curacao, Panama, Haiti and St. Kitts and Nevis. Second round matchups are head to head 2 legs, winner get into the hex: El Salvador v St. Kitts and Nevis (winner hosts USA to start final round. Canada v Haiti (winner gets 2nd game at USA) Panama v Curacao Got to figure El Salvador, Canada and Panama are the favorites to join USA, Mexico, Costa Rica, Honduras and Jamaica in the final round.
  15. 3 goals tonight from Reyna, McKennie and Pulisic.
  16. Ethan Horvath MOTM?
  17. horsefeathers Mexico soccer.
  18. Now in the 10th of 5 stoppage time minutes.
  19. Think CP cares about beating Mexico?
  20. Reyna hit by debris thrown from Mexico fans, on the ground.
  21. Probably not enough there for a penalty, but plenty of accumulated garbage from Mexico buys the US a break.
  22. Adams in for Ream, 82 minutes late.
  23. Only a matter of time before Ream gave Mexico a goal.
  24. In other CONCACAF news, T&T will not be making an appearance in this cycles final round "hex", as their group was already clinched by St. Kitts and Nevis yesterday. The otger 5 groups will all be decided by the last round of matches thia week.
  25. Mexico it is, then.
