I don't get it, he was a starter and played 25-30 minutes per game. Curbelo was more the pure point guard, but Miller was the shooting guard poised to take over Ayo's shot volume most of all.

As usual, the takeaway from the NCAA tournament is "Man, the NCAA tournament is so random." and rarely "Man, the NCAA tournament really shows who the best teams are." Though there's a chance the best 2 teams do actually make the championship game this year, which has happened...maybe 4-5 times before? If the format was changed to double elimination would we see more of the better teams make it to the FF? Look at what Loyola did to the Illini, nearly perfect for one game would they be able to pull that off again in a best of 3 vs. the Illini? I have my doubts. Making the NCAA tournament more fair to better teams would effectively ruin the NCAA tournament, so there's really no fix.

I'm assuming it'll start with Bill Self to UNC, then Brad Underwood to Kansas, then Porter Moser to Illinois, just like the last time UNC opened up.

I do have to say I am not overly optimistic about the quality of MLS teams that are participating in this year's event. Columbus, Atlanta, Philadelphia and Portland aren't exactly the cream of the MLS crop, but hey, one of them might beat a Mexican team. Columbus is definitely a Top 4 MLS team at the moment, maybe Portland too depending on your opinion of their offseason. Big problem is the draws are basically the opposite of what you'd hope for to maximize MLS advancement too. Best hopes are Atlanta gelling quickly and making it through the weaker quadrant of the bracket, and either Columbus or Portland outslugging a Mexican team or two and making a run. I think LAFC/Seattle/NYCFC would probably fare better in this event, but yeah, Columbus was good at the end of last year for sure and should be good again. Portland might be good again, and Philly probably lost too much to pose too much of a threat. Once again, though, it's likely that at least 3 of the 4 best clubs in the event are Mexican again, and just hoping for a final that isn't just America/Monterrey.

And then the following week we get back to the best competition on earth. That's right CONCACAF Champions League kicks off in just 7 days. In World Cup qualfying news, the new and different CONCACAF qualifying round has started. Reminder, this time around the top 5 teams in CONCACAF have a bye to the final round of qualifying, which for this cycle is Mexico, USA, Costa Rica, Jamaica and Honduras. Teams 6-35 were broken into 6 groups of 5 and are playing a single round robin group play (4 games each), followed by a 2-leg playoff to determine the final 3 teams that advance to the final round of qualifying. Here are those 5 groups: A - El Salvador, Antigua and Barbuda, Montserrat, Grenada, US Virgin Islands B - Canada, Suriname, Cayman Islands, Bermuda, Aruba C - Curacao, Guatemala, Cuba, British Virgini Islands, St. Vincent and the Grenadines D - Panama, Dominican Republic, Barbados, Dominica, Anguilla E - Haiti, Nicaragua, Belize, Tunis and Caicos Islands, St. Lucia (withdrew) F - Trinidad and Tobago, Puerto Rico, St. Kitts and Nevis, Guyana, Bahamas Have to figure the favorites to advance out of that are Panama, Canada, Haiti, Curacao, El Salvador and T&T, but T&T and El Salvador already dropped points and with only 4 games crazier things have happened.

Cmon, u23s, beat the crap out of Honduras and win a big game on the national scale for the first time in 8 years.

Northern Ireland isn't top tier UEFA competition, but they did play in the Euros last year and are better than a scrub CONCACAF team that hasn't played in a year. And the US is having the clearly better play here in Europe. And just as I say that Northern Ireland pulls back a goal late.

Of course, the big game today is the U23 Olympic qualifier vs Honduras, a win and I think they could do some serious damage in the Olympics with a full squad, even all 23 and under with Dest, Pulisic, Reyna, Sargent, Adams, Musah and McKennie.

I mean after the top 3 seeds it's wide open in the East. I'm an NBA idiot, but how is this team not at least playing playoff basketball? And it sounds like they'll have some cap space. Not necessarily max cap space, but that can always be engineered if the opportunity arises. Well their bigs suck and they have no PG either With last year's version of Zach they'd have about 10 wins, if that. Their bigs are now Vucevic and (allegedly) Theis, which doesn't suck. They still have nobody to really distribute, so that's still a major deficiency.

Virginia isn't going to get into Indy until Friday evening and won't have any practice time between now and their game against Ohio. Ohio looks very enticing against Virginia/Louisville.

No regrets, figured W KY would be a long shot, that's what I get for trying to guess the committee curveball (it was Utah State instead) Came close with Louisville, had tgem in last 4 in with Syracuse first 4 out, but I guess the committee was more impressed with a 2 point home win over UNC.

Also, for those curious, the reason I'm pro Western Kentucky more so than teams like Syracuse or Seton Hall is that they won their conference regular season and won at Alabama, which is a better win than anyone else in that area, so I think they'll get rewarded for that. As long as Houston wins, that is.

Alabama hangs on to win the SEC, still not going to get a 1 seed. St. Bonaventure wins the A10, swap them and VCU in tge bracket.

Still plenty open to tweaks, I made a few S-Curve tweaks based on the wekeend games: - Illinois to 3 - Oklahoma State to 8 - Texas to 9 - Arkansas to 10 Last 4 in right now are Louisville, Wichita State, the A10 final loser and Western Kentucky First 4 out are Colorado State, Syracuse, Xavier and Boise State.
