  1. So this entire year, save for two 4th quarters and one game without their best defender?
  2. I don't think there is any realistic path for UCF to make the playoff. At this point, the interesting scenario would be if Clemson, ND, Michigan and Georgia win out with Bama losing to Georgia in the SEC championship. Would be awful for SEC to steal two spots two years straight.
  3. Northwestern wins the Big Ten West despite going 0-3 in non conference.
  4. Bears are elite, Lions are bad. Bears by 14.
  5. Joe needs to stop acting like he's the true victim of the situation. Don't want to get involved in the Russell situation? Say you don't have enough facts to comment and leave it at that.
  6. His name is an anagram for nacho yea point, so the Cubs have progressed from chili to nachos.
  7. Completely disagree, Underwood was a great hire and they have a really solid, deep class coming in this year. That is an awful take for a single year. I hope you're correct, although, I believe he's the only Big Ten Coach without a 2019 commitment which is discouraging. They just finished putting together a 7 player 2018 class and they're heavily recruiting 2019 talent. It's still super early, and they mifht have just 2 apots available. Illinois' problems in both programs right now is trying to recover from awful talent voids left by prior regimes. The FB program has 6 seniors and is coming off a win (yes, today was their worst showing). The BB program has 4 returning players after offloading a bunch of secondary talent and a talented graduate. Patience is a key right now, as both sports are rebuilding from scratch.
  8. 5 mil a year for Lovie. I know coaches usually deserve 1 full recruiting cycle but, they would be justified if they canned him. Appears they gotten it wrong in BB as well, just sad, they've been surpassed by Northwestern (in BB as well, long surpassed in FB). Completely disagree, Underwood was a great hire and they have a really solid, deep class coming in this year. That is an awful take for a single year.
  9. Note that this is the 3rd place team in that division.
  10. They did it. The Cubs broke the Dbacks spirit. This is the exact moment their heart was torn in half.
  11. Good old "finders keepers"
  12. De La Rosa has been great in 17 appearances for the Cubs, to the point where I'm almost expecting him to be on the postseason roster in the pen. Looking at the options: Strop (if healthy) Edwards Cishek Wilson Chavez Monty Rosario De La Rosa Kintzler Garcia Chatwood Mills Maples I'd say Edwards, Cishek, Wilson, Chavez and Monty are locks, with Strop in if healthy, and the back of the pen going to 1 or 2 of Rosario, De La Rosa and Kintzler.
  13. I'm not great at math, but is it even possible for a swing in batting average that great at this point in the season? Let's assume Javy plays 10 of the remaining 11 games, and gets an average of 4 PA per game, so 40 PA. Given his 5% walk rate, let's say 38 AB. To raise his BA to .315, he'd need to go 23 for 38. To raise it to .320, he'd need to go 28 for 38.
  14. Javy with an outside shot at the triple crown in the NL, now up to 10th in BA, 3rd in HR and 1st in RBI. Likely won't catch Yelich/Gennett for the batting title, but it's a great season.
  15. What in the world is the umpire doing? [tweet] [/tweet]
  16. Dbacks are eliminated, as tonight's Cub win also results in a loss to Arizona.
  17. The signing itself was fine, IMO, but they REALLY dropped the ball by acting like they only needed to prop up the bullpen in-season with the likes of horsefeathering Kintzler. Chavez and De La Rosa.
  18. The Cards will never lose again* *they just lost 2 of 3 at home to the Reds
  19. Win today and the Cubs will clinch a winning record for the fourth straight season. This would mark only the second stretch the Cubs had a winning record for at least 4 straight seasons since World War II. (1968-1974 the other).
  20. Cubs clinched a better record than the Padres last night. They can clinch a better record than the Marlins with a win today.
  21. I'm not sure how often it needs to be said that DFA does not mean released.
  22. The answer, as always, is the survivors of a 7 team tiebreaker gauntlet at 88-74 that envelops the NL West and East titles and both wildcards.
  23. Suddenly Rizzo's season line is starting to look like every other season. 10 HRs needed to get to 32, which would bump the slugging up to normal.
  24. I'm rooting for 5 way wildcard tie, with the Cubs awaiting the survivors.
