  1. I think Marquis and Pie are in for sure. I still think Hart has the edge over Marshall (and Ohman). I hope Lou does the right thing and take Ronny. He's been out-hitting Fontenot (and Theriot, heh) in September and he gives the Cubs an actual backup SS. But Lou seems to have Fontenot much higher on the PH depth chart than I would, so I don't know. I figure Pie should be in. I keep hoping Marquis is left off in favor of an additional lefty (Marshall/Ohman), and Lou seems to have taken a liking to Hart. If I had to guess the last 5 at this point, I'd probably go Marquis, Hart, Fontenot, Cedeno, Pie. If I got to pick the last 5, I'd go Marshall, Hart, Pie, Cedeno, Fontenot.
  2. Chris Young, Eric Byrnes, Stephen Drew, Conor Jackson, Augie Ojeda, Justin Upton, Chad Tracy, Chris Snyder... Yeah, I have no idea how they produce offense. Of course, now that I say that, it'll probably be Chris Young that kills the Cubs.
  3. So does Floyd. The numbers don't like Soriano at all.
  4. According to Inside Edge A lot of fascinating information there, actually, regarding every aspect of the pitchers and hitters. Some preliminary observations: - The Cubs look to be a team full of players that are better than average (C+ or better), but nobody is great (A or A-), except for Lee, Ramirez, Ward (remember, only for hitting) and Marmol. - Soriano really needs some plate discipline to become a good hitter. - Hill scored the best in the rotation, and Marquis the worse, but everyone was between a B+ and a B- (even Marshall) - No Soto or Trachsel grades, likely due to a lack of PAs, although Fox is on there, so who knows. - Monroe, Pie and Blanco were the only current Cubs that finished below average.
  5. Hey, Murton and Soto on the team for sure is nice to know at least. So far we know: 1. Zambrano 2. Lilly 3. Hill 4. Dempster 5. Howry 6. Marmol 7. Wood 8. Eyre 9. Wuertz 10. Soriano 11. Lee 12. Ramirez 13. DeRosa 14. Theriot 15. Jones 16. Floyd 17. Murton 18. Kendall 19. Soto 20. Ward Got to figure at least one more, if not two more pitchers (Marquis/Hart/Marshall), and at least one backup infielder (Fontenot/Cedeno), and another backup OF (Pie/Monroe/Fuld?)
  6. Sure, Illinois has a shot. Certainly a better shot than I would've thought at the beginning of the year. Actually, the way they are playing right now, they have a shot in every game except the game at Ohio State.
  7. If Zambrano, Lilly, and Hill can all win their games this series, I like the Cubs chances.
  8. 1. Ron Santo - the only superfan that is allowed to provide professional radio analysis. 2. Kerry Wood - Gave up his arm - twice - to try to get the Cubs through the playoffs in '98 and '03. 3. Everyone who has stuck with this team, through generations, over the past 98 years.
  9. Heh, Uk in a BCS game. Nothing would amuse me more than something like an Illinois/Missouri/Cincinnati/Wake Forest/UK/ASU BCS.
  10. Wow, just a single Mets collapse from a 4-way tie this year.
  11. What can you really say about the Big Ten at this point. Probably 9 teams among the top 50 or 60 of college teams, but really probably only 3 top 25 at this conjecture: Ohio State, Wisconsin, Purdue. Everyone else is mixed up below them, although I still think teams like Michigan and Michigan State are better than Illinois and Indiana.
  12. Actually, he missed two. Kevin Hart is on the roster also.
  13. Huh, yeah, no 20-game winners last year. Happened twice, actually. I just think Beckett will win the Cy because he's the only 20-game winner. Not that it really means anything except to the voters.
  14. The Diamondbacks won the season series, so they've clinched the division with the SD loss today.
  15. This is what I think will happen, not necessarily should: NL ROY: Troy Tulowitski AL ROY: Daisuke NL MVP: Matt Holliday AL MVP: Alex Rodriguez NL MOY: Bob Melvin AL MOY: Eric Wedge AL CY: Josh Beckett NL CY: Brandon Webb Has there ever only been one 20-game winner in the majors before?
  16. With yesterday's win, the Cubs actually succeeded in playing at least .500 ball against everyone in the division this year. 11-5 against St. Louis 9-6 against Milwaukee 8-7 against Houston 8-7 against Pittsburgh 8-7 against Cincinnati
  17. The only thing today did was eliminate the possibility of the Cubs playing the Padres in the NLDS.
  18. This is it for Harang this year. There will be no next start.
  19. Marshall vs. Marquis for that final spot on the postseason roster? *fingers crossed* (Hart also on the roster...)
  20. I'd rather see Hill than either of them. Well, yes, the 3 starters would be Zambrano, Lilly, Hill. Thus...Marshall in the pen.
  21. I may be alone in this, but if the Cubs are going with just 3 starters in the NLDS, I'd like to see Marshall instead of Marquis in the pen ready to come in at a moment's notice.
  22. The Cubs are 15-5 against the NLC in September. That, if nothing else, propelled them to the division title (considering they're 1-6 in September against other divisions)
  23. Well, now that it's a sure thing... I think these players are "locks" to be on the playoff roster as long as nobody gets injured between now and Wednesday: Rotation: Zambrano, Lilly, Hill, Marquis (not that I like it, but Marquis is in the rotation) Relievers: Dempster, Howry, Marmol, Eyre, Wood, Wuertz Position Players: Ramirez, Lee, Soriano, DeRosa, Theriot, Jones, Floyd, Kendall, Ward That makes 20. As far as I see it, there are 5 spots up for grabs among the following players: Soto, Blanco, Murton, Munroe, Pie, Marshall, Hart, Fontenot, Cedeno, Ohman. They WILL have a second catcher, and Lou would likely want a long reliever available in case one of the starters runs into trouble immediately. That leaves space for a backup middle infielder and 2 backup OFs. If it were up to me, I'd use Soto, Hart, Cedeno, Murton and Pie. Not sure if that's what Lou will do.
  24. The most unlikely playoff scenario: Mets win 2 Phillies win 1 Padres lose 2 Rockies win 2 All finish with identical 89-73 records. Monday playoff: Mets defeat Phillies Tuesday-Wednesday playoffs: Phillies defeat Padres and Rockies. Cubs head to New York for a game on Thursday.
