  1. I don't think it's conspiracy so much as simply awful refereeing. Almost every official is completely affected by the home crowd.
  2. What other relievers could use some work today? Eyre, Fox, Wuertz?
  3. I'll take a guess... Offense: Runs/game - 1st OBP - 1st OPS - 1st Walks - 2nd (Cards) SB% - 15th Starting Pitching: ERA - 4th OBA - 3rd OPA - 5th WHIP - 3rd K rate - 9th Relief Pitching: ERA - 3rd OBA - 2nd OPA - 3rd WHIP - 2nd K rate - 4th
  4. Somehow it'll be remembered as Edmonds' fault the ball bounced off the wall on two hops to the catcher, so that Ramirez was out. That 7th inning AB was a shame, though. i'll hope that the cubs can get something out of him, if they don't, i'll be the first to admit that he should be let go. i'm not going to hate on him for the 32 home runs he's hit off of us in 8 years, though. What I'd like to see happen is to give Edmonds a daily shot against RHs for, say, 3 weeks. In the meantime, let Pie work closely with Keller to improve his strike zone judgment and pitch recognition some, fix his weight distribution, and give him solid playing time every day against every kind of pitcher. If after 3 weeks Edmonds isn't working out (I'd say if Edmonds were performing the equivalent of Reed Johnson vs. righties), let him go, bring Pie up and play Pie against every righty the Cubs face the rest of the year. At least then the Cubs give Pie a chance to perfect the things they want him to work on, and at the end of the year they have a better idea of what they have going forward. If Edmonds seriously works out (say, a .275/.350/.450 line or better), then there's little harm in the acquisition anyway, and if you want to use Pie as a 5th OF or let Johnson walk, you have the flexibility to do that. Unfortunately, Hendry seems to value some very weird things in offensive players.
  5. This disturbs me. Likewise. I'm not sure I want to know what's contained in a bottle of Alou.
  6. Somehow it'll be remembered as Edmonds' fault the ball bounced off the wall on two hops to the catcher, so that Ramirez was out. That 7th inning AB was a shame, though.
  7. The last time the Cubs started this well was 1984, when the Cubs started 26-15.
  8. Only Soriano can manage a seven pitch AB in which only one of them is called a ball.
  9. Dempster going to pitch the 9th. It's ok, though, because he's done it before.
  10. The best thing about a high OBP is that in games where only 20% of your runners are scoring, you still get 4 runs.
  11. It's what happens when you lead the league in OBP. Get used to it. 16 baserunners in 7 innings should lead to more than 4 runs being scored. Some bad breaks in the second inning cost the Cubs at least a couple runs, and in the 5th inning, 6 baserunners led to 4 runs. Beyond that, only the 7th inning was really disappointing, and even then Cedeno missed clearing the bases by a few feet.
  12. Fortunately, the Cub offense has been good enough all around so that an overall disappointing first day for Edmonds has been overcome by this point. Remember, Hendry needed an extra LH bat in the lineup in CF.
  13. C'mon Ronny. Been a while since you hit a grand slam.
  14. Oh geez. Edmonds up with the bags loaded now in the 7th.
  15. 88 through 7 for Dempster. He'll probably come out to pitch the 8th, but if I were Lou, I'd have, say, Wuertz warming up. If the 8th goes quick and easy, Wuertz can start the 9th. Otherwise, Wuertz in the 8th, Wood in the 9th.
  16. Despite his .210 average, I am concerned about Greene here.
  17. In his small sample size, Edmonds is hitting .333/.333/.333/.667 . Not sure how that's necessarily proving anything about being better or worse than Reed Johnson or Felix Pie.
  18. Nobody told Blanco that Maddux was done pitching.
  19. 4 run inning or 4+ run inning? If the latter, we scored 5 runs and 6 runs in an inning on Monday.. No, 4 run inning. They always get 5.
  20. That was the Cubs first 4-run inning since Ronny's grand slam vs. the Mets.
  21. The only thing needed to top this game off is a big Edmonds hit.
  22. Warning track power. C'mon Aramis, haven't had a 5-run inning in a while.
  23. Soriano is an awful matchup for Maddux, because Soriano can hit strikes, and Maddux doesn't often waste pitches.
