  1. Uh I bet Shark goes to a few  Plus, I'm pretty sure I saw Dempster at the ND-Syracuse game during Quinn's Jr. year interesting fact: Dempster was a ND baseball commit before he signed with the Rangers. I believe Ski thinks ND stands for North Dakota.
  2. Zero Cubs are in the top 30 in the majors in offensive VORP, but 11 are in the top 120, including the entire starting lineup, both halves of the CF platoon and Carlos Zambrano.
  3. Ryan Dempster leads the NL in Expected Wins, just ahead of Brandon Webb, Johan Santana and Tim Lincecum.
  4. Paul Maholm has a higher VORP than Edinson Volquez and CC Sabathia.
  5. Wow, the Cubs are 11 games up on the Cardinals now. That kind of escalated in a hurry.
  6. Seattle in 2001. Their run differential was +300.
  7. Yay Cub pitching: The Phillies were held without an extra base hit in a game for the first time since June 18.
  8. Given our pythag compared to seemingly everyone else's, I'm perfectly fine with that. I'm just saying, during games where the Cubs are blowing a sure victory and everyone says it'll even out? This is the season evening out. :)
  9. This just in, it is possible for the Cubs to win despite poor managerial decisions. Film at 11.
  10. OK, whenever we're counting games the Cubs should've won but lost and game the Cubs should've lost but won, chalk this one up in the second category.
  11. Man, the Phillies have a lot of HR hitters on the team.
  12. Sacrifice bunting with the hottest hitter on the team in order to depend on the two worst hitters on the team to drive in the runs is a bad strategy move.
  13. Fontenot can't play short. DeRosa isn't a good bet there either.
  14. Not sure but it wasn't a good decision by Lou. Gaudin's thrown 7 pitches in the last week, all of which came on Tuesday (granted, he did throw 52 on Aug. 22). But what makes it curious is the fact that the pitcher's spot is due up first next inning. Since Wood is unavailable and Marmol would presumably pitch the ninth, I'm not sure who would pitch the eighth. I bet it's Howry after looking halfway decent yesterday. Not that I want it to be. The Cubs double-switched in Johnson this past inning. Samardzija is probably going another inning.
  15. Wow, the strike zone this inning has been about 3 inches wide and 5 inches high, for both teams. Fortunately, the Cubs kept taking. (Well, fortunately except for Blanco)
  16. Blanton starting to miss his spots and leave the ball up more. Let's see if the Cubs can capitalize before the pen gets ready.
  17. Yes, this would be the exception that proves the rule. And if I remember correctly, the Phillies also got a gift run, so it's 1-1 on that count.
  18. ronny cedeno begs to differ. Huh, how in the world does Ward have a .250 EqA? I suppose the slugging would be a bit higher with about half as many PAs.
  19. Neither team's really had a solid hit, aside from possibly the Howard hit the previous inning.
  20. Fortunately, September callups are in 3 days.
  21. I don't want to say Ward sucks, as he's clearly pigeonholed into a tough role as a full-time PH, but he's clearly the worst hitter on the team.
  22. Heh, so it was an error that can't be called an error since an out was recorded? I was wondering what kind of grounder Ward would have to hit to not be doubled up with Blanco on first.
  23. Actually, this would be a perfect spot for Cedeno to pinch hit. He hits righties better, Blanton lets righties hit better.
