  1. My prediction, either 16-14 Bears or 31-13 Colts. So, basically, I'd be surprised to see the Bears lose a close game.
  2. If I felt the Cubs needed to revamp the lineup (which I don't) and that any Cub would agree to hit anywhere in said lineup (which they wouldn't), I'd probably go: Theriot - with the caveat that he is no longer allowed to steal anything unless the pitcher completely ignores him and then tosses the ball to the backstop Lee Ramirez Soriano Soto Edmonds DeRosa Fukudome P
  3. Kosuke hits for the cycle. Top that. Ronny Cedeno goes 5-5 with 5 grand slams, closes the game pitching 3 perfect innings, shakes his fist in the general direction of Milwaukee, causing the Brewers to lose, and later declares himself the King of the World, a nomination the United Nations quickly approves. I still think Theriot homering is more bold. How about this: Zambrano takes a walk.
  4. Wow at Illinois somehow being the only ranked team to lose and stay ranked in both polls. Did they really look good in defeat? I suppose they did wake up somewhat in the second half.
  5. Sure, the projected borderline top 50 team beat a consensus top 20 team, but they never would beat a consensus top 10 team. And that proves how dominant the SEC is!
  6. Well...I guess a loss is scary, and they did survive to play another week, so in a roundabout way that line is true...
  7. There's probably a worse shortstop available somewhere in the minors or on waivers that may not offend Cub fans as much as Cedeno. At least for a week or so.
  8. Thanks to the Brewers win, the Pirates are eliminated from the NL Central race, and can no longer finish ahead of the Cubs. 3 down, 12 to go.
  9. Not a great throw, but you have to hold onto the ball there.
  10. Starting to look kinda like last year's game, except with even less defense.
  11. It would have to be quite good, considering they take the lead a lot and hold it almost as often.
  12. Uh I bet Shark goes to a few  Plus, I'm pretty sure I saw Dempster at the ND-Syracuse game during Quinn's Jr. year interesting fact: Dempster was a ND baseball commit before he signed with the Rangers. I believe Ski thinks ND stands for North Dakota.
  13. Zero Cubs are in the top 30 in the majors in offensive VORP, but 11 are in the top 120, including the entire starting lineup, both halves of the CF platoon and Carlos Zambrano.
  14. Ryan Dempster leads the NL in Expected Wins, just ahead of Brandon Webb, Johan Santana and Tim Lincecum.
  15. Paul Maholm has a higher VORP than Edinson Volquez and CC Sabathia.
  16. Wow, the Cubs are 11 games up on the Cardinals now. That kind of escalated in a hurry.
  17. Seattle in 2001. Their run differential was +300.
  18. Yay Cub pitching: The Phillies were held without an extra base hit in a game for the first time since June 18.
  19. Given our pythag compared to seemingly everyone else's, I'm perfectly fine with that. I'm just saying, during games where the Cubs are blowing a sure victory and everyone says it'll even out? This is the season evening out. :)
  20. This just in, it is possible for the Cubs to win despite poor managerial decisions. Film at 11.
  21. OK, whenever we're counting games the Cubs should've won but lost and game the Cubs should've lost but won, chalk this one up in the second category.
  22. Man, the Phillies have a lot of HR hitters on the team.
  23. Sacrifice bunting with the hottest hitter on the team in order to depend on the two worst hitters on the team to drive in the runs is a bad strategy move.
  24. Fontenot can't play short. DeRosa isn't a good bet there either.
  25. Not sure but it wasn't a good decision by Lou. Gaudin's thrown 7 pitches in the last week, all of which came on Tuesday (granted, he did throw 52 on Aug. 22). But what makes it curious is the fact that the pitcher's spot is due up first next inning. Since Wood is unavailable and Marmol would presumably pitch the ninth, I'm not sure who would pitch the eighth. I bet it's Howry after looking halfway decent yesterday. Not that I want it to be. The Cubs double-switched in Johnson this past inning. Samardzija is probably going another inning.
