  1. After the media committee's first vote, 19 teams are in: BYU, Duke, Georgetown, Kansas, Kansas State, Kentucky, Michigan State, New Mexico, Ohio State, Pittsburgh, Purdue, Syracuse, Temple, Tennessee, Texas, Vanderbilt, Villanova, West Virginia and Wisconsin 53 other teams in consideration, currently doing a top 8 vote among Baylor, Georgia Tech, Rhode Island, Richmond, Texas A&M, Northern Iowa, UNLV and Wake Forest. Top 4 from that vote will be moved into the field. To me, I'm mostly amazed that two A-10 teams are among the "next 8" after a first 19 that already includes another A-10 team. And none of them are Xavier (this means I really need to look more at the A-10 before I start doing any mock committees in 3 weeks).
  2. I've been following this, and it dawned on me other people might be interested too. The media is currently doing a live blogged mock selection for the NCAA tournament: http://www.ncaa.com/blog/200910d1mensbasketball/
  3. So, who else wants a drink today? http://www.illinoisloyalty.com/i/n/orange-koolaid-01.jpg
  4. a. dmac b. john wall Correct. Wall does get to the line more and shoot FTs better, but McCamey compares favorably to any player not named Evan Turner right now.
  5. For fun, a blind player analysis, courtesy of John Gasaway: ORtg %Poss %Shots ARate TORate 2FG% 3FG% Player A 110.3 26.2 22.5 37.5 21.5 55.6 37.8 Player B 111.4 26.7 23.0 34.9 24.9 50.3 37.3 Any guesses? :) (TORate is turnover rate, so a lower # is better, ARate = assist rate, %Shots mean % of team shots taken, %Poss means % of team's possessions used by that player, and ORtg is the overall offensive rating).
  6. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. ...fool me 101 times, there's just so much shame we can handle.

I asked him before and his response was lukewarm at best. Did you expect anything more from a White Sox fan? ;) Hey, you have Juan Pierre now. How could you not be excited? ;)
  8. If the Big Ten tournament started today, Illinois would be the 1 seed... ... I know, right?
  9. The RPI is really ugly at 72 coming into today. Still think they'd need to creep into the top 50 to be "safe". That involves not losing out, for sure. Hold serve at home, and even if they lose at Purdue, OSU and Michigan, they go 12-6 in conference, sweep Wisconsin, and likely finish top 50.
  10. Also, I had said that if this team started playing typical defense of a Weber team, they'd be really good? Tonight, they were really good for 25 minutes and outscored Wisconsin in Madison by 18 in those 25 minutes. Now if only they can start better...
  11. Too bad the schedule is freaking relentless. Ohio State next, then at Purdue.
  12. If everyone on the team plays to projections, the offense will be better, while the pitching will be worse. I tend to think the offensive improvement will outpace the pitching decline, so the team will be 3-5 wins better this season than last. Whether that'll be enough to win the division is really more dependent on the other teams.

    2010 Keepers

I'm more than happy to answer any questions since I already cleared my roster and don't have a first round pick anyway, so there's no tangible advantage or ability for me to screw anybody over. :)
  14. The important things to keep in mind are that you have leverage in trades, because the teams looking to offload points will be stuck having to drop them as of next week for nothing if no deals get done. Also, trading your first round pick is a recipe for winning the whole league. ;)
  15. Welcome to the league! Good luck getting the hang of things, and keep in mind that there's no way to win the league your first year. ;)
  16. I'd still go with Turner, who turns OSU from a .500 team into a top 10 team.
  17. The one thing that has me still optimistic is that if this team ever figures out how to defend like Weber teams typically defend, they'll be really good.
  18. I actually thought Vitale made good points against rushing the court: people can get seriously hurt, and Illinois has had too much success in basketball for this to be a shock. I have a feeling if it weren't Gameday, though, the fans wouldn't have rushed.
  19. And just like that, the Big Ten is wide open again. I mean, between MSU, Purdue, Wisconsin and Ohio State.
  20. I wouldn't call Illini fans on here homers either, the "prick" part is very accurate though. =) You cut me, you cut me deep.
  21. Any luck finding Todd and 2 other owners yet? If necessary, I do have a brother that would be interested, but he doesn't exactly ever come to this board. I'd make him though in order to participate, so nobody would have to go through me.

Reminder to those who already "set" their rosters before yesterday: remember to check them as a keeper before February 15 also to avoid the whole roster dropping.
  23. Check is in the mail today.

Dropped Ichiro, Cruz, Vazquez and Wolf (along with Lannan, Bourn and Lowrie). Really came up short on the points limit, but had a ton of exempt players.
