  1. Blackhawk players with a goal and 3 assists today.
  2. Was that expected? Well, it's not like they haven't won bobsled before. They did it in 1948.
  3. Wonder when's a good time to start setting up for the NSBB mock tournament selection. Next week, maybe?
  4. Defensively, yes. Obviously Canada was pretty scary last night but how many of those opportunities would they have gotten that clean against us? Evgeni was terrible, they turned it over like mad and their D's were terrible. They gave up after that 4th goal. Watched all of those first 3 games on DVR and think we're the 2nd best team remaining. I love the way our first line is playing and think we'll get the opportunities against Finland. Unfortunately the guy in net has been pretty good. I wish Sweden would have pulled that out though. Also I'm probably the only guy in here who likes watching national hockey games and occasional Blackhawks games, but have never really adopted an NHL team. I want to adopt the Devils just so I can root for Parise (and to a lesser extent Langenbrunner). Tell me why I shouldn't. I'd say if you were choosing a team based on the excitement level of the games they play, I'd suggest one of Washington (Ovechkin), Pittsburgh (Crosby/Malkin) or Chicago (Toews/Kane). NJ plays a pretty boring style, but it's effective. In terms of geographical closeness, Minnesota is at least decent, but they're probably more boring to watch than NJ.
  5. I have to say, after watching the Russia-Canada game and the Czech-Finland game, I'm a lot more impressed with the US team.
  6. Well, that ought to cover at least average expectations for the team. They could very well lose 2 to Finland/Sweden/Canada/Russia, but they at least made the semis and put themselves in position to get a medal, which was unexpected, being the 5th ranked team going in. Finland/Czech in the semis is going to also be a best-case scenario.
  7. Read: my selections = chopped liver. :)
  8. Damn you! Sorry Don. :-k No I'm not. Quiet! Pick.
  9. Hector Rondon, SP, CLE
  10. Ok, now let's try for available and eligible. ;) Ahem... That's what I get for trusting Don on his word. ;)
  11. Ok, now let's try for available and eligible. ;)
  12. Tim still around?
  13. Mike Trout, OF, LAA
  14. I think that's where we are getting to with this, Tim. Oh, it's your pick, Robert. Actually, Robert picked, so it's Clint's turn.
  15. Wow, that has to be the first time a competitor was disqualified by his coach. That coach is so fired.
  16. Ooh, I know what game to watch!
  17. I'm pretty happy with the 2 guys I got so far, but in hindsight I should probably have taken Westmoreland over Teheran first (I had Teheran/Westmoreland/Miller at the top of my list when I picked, so at least I got 2 of the 3). I also had the top 7 Cub prospects on my radar, but wasn't willing to overdraft to get them. So I got zero. I mean, I would've taken Castro had he fallen to 14, but I kind of figured he wouldn't. Would've taken Jay/Brett Jackson with my next pick if either were still there.
  18. Although, with all the talk about Russia, Canada and the US, anybody remember who won the gold, silver and bronze in 2006?
  19. how do they clinch the 1 seed? if the sweden/finland game goes OT, or also if sweden wins by fewer than 5? Yeah, pretty much. EDIT: 2-0 Sweden now, midway through the second period. EDIT 2: Sweden wins the tiebreaker with the US if they win by 5 and score at least 8 goals, or win by 6+.
  20. Sweden leads Finland 1-0 at the end of 1. If the US gets the 1 seed, they'll play the winner of Switzerland-Belarus in the quarters, and then likely the winner of a Czech Republic/Finland quarter in the semis. If they get the 2 seed, they'd play the Slovakia-Norway winner (Slovakia), and then the Russia-Canada winner in the semis.
  21. US the 2 seed if Finland wins in regulation, 1 seed otherwise. Canada a 6 seed, play Germany in qualifying round, and Russia if they beat Germany.
  22. One reason this game is HUGE for Canada: If they lose in regulation, they'll get Russia in the quarters.
  23. Here is the priority for setting the 1-12 seedings: 1 - Order of finish in standings (so all first place teams will be seeded before any seconds) 2 - Total points accrued 3 - Goal differential 4 - Goals scored 5 - IIHF ranking USA is fifth in the IIHF ranking, behind Canada, Russia, Sweden and Finland, so they'd win that tiebreaker with the Czechs. As far as the seeds locked in right now: 3. Russia 7. Slovakia 8. Switzerland 9. Belarus 10. Norway 11. Germany 12. Latvia US will be at worst the 5 seed unless they lose by 5 or more or lose 4-0.
  24. Bulls up 27 midway through the 4th, entire rotation has between 12 and 18 points. 2 turnovers for the team to this point.
  25. While we're talking about changes to the exemption rule, I have a proposal too...could we match up the exemption threshold for both minor league eligibility and exemption year? I really don't care whether we use the smaller one (5 starts, 10 app, 50 PA) or the larger one (10 starts, 25 app, 200 PA), but I would like it better if it were consistent.
