  1. Altidore run up the right side, cross to Dempsey 3 feet from the goal line, off the goalie, right to Donovan, put it in an empty net.
  2. USA wins Group C!
  3. From Dan Wetzel's twitter: At Paris airport. Many French cheered South African goal. Love it when fans hate their own team when they act like punks.
  4. Just two more goals for RSA to make up, and it's only halftime.
  5. Group H: CHI wins group with a tie or better, through with a loss if SWI loses, draws, finishes with fewer goals and same differential. ESP through with a win, also through with a tie and SWI loss/tie. SWI through with a win and ESP loss/tie, or win and better goals scored/differential than CHI. HON through with a win by at least 2, and ESP loss by at least 2.
  6. All five South American clubs are leading their respective groups after two rounds. Crazy. The other group leaders are Slovenia, Germany and the Netherlands.
  7. For Spain to advance now, it has to win its last two and outpace the goal differential of either Chile or Switzerland. Or hope Honduras beats Switzerland. Either way, Honduras is likely in for a beating today.
  8. I was thinking the same thing. Wondering if they had any idea what the other was saying, even though they were having an exchange. English is the internationa language of conflict. I prefer to yell in "fake Italian" Bopity Boopity! Porcini fusilli spaghetti frappucino!
  9. In Group B, if NIG and ARG win, then NIG and ARG advance.
  10. Two teams through now with the Netherlands and Brazil. Only Cameroon eliminated so far.
  11. I didn't get to see the whole game, but were there other calls where they hounded him for an explanation? Referees are used to calling games with languages they don't know, there isn't a ton of verbal interaction on the field. I have it on good authority that Coulibaly was asked in both English and French what the call was on the field. French is one of his fluent languages. And he still refused. I've watched that portion of the game a hundred times, and Coulibaly was going to call a foul on the play no matter what. He had the whistle in his mouth before Donovan was given the go ahead to kick it. Not sure if he was issuing a makeup call for a weak free kick call, or if he just decided the USA shouldn't win this game, but he was going to call a foul. The whistle blew before Edu touched it.
  12. I have to feel that both Mexico and Uruguay will try to win, because neither wants any part of Argentina.
  13. With the Cameroon loss, the Netherlands are the first team through to the round of 16.
  14. Three more birdies for Phil and now he's 1 under.
  15. US Scenarios: - Eliminated with a loss to Algeria - Through with a win v. Algeria - Through with a draw v. Algeria coupled with a Slovenia win or draw fewer than 3g greater than the US-Algeria score. - Can win the group with a win v. Algeria coupled with a Slovenia-England draw and better GD or GS than Slovenia, or an England win and a greater GD or GS than England.
  16. Doesn't matter.
  17. In a historic first, FIFA referee Koman Coulibaly accepted today's Man of the Match award for his defensive efforts for the Slovenia squad.
  18. Official FIFA scoring is the goal was disallowed on a foul by Edu.
  19. I hope there is some way to appeal to FIFA or something. That was the worst call I can remember.
  20. Yes, either a two goal victory by the US, or a victory and no draw, and the US is through no matter what.
  21. Win and end up with a better differential/more goals than Slovenia or England.
  22. Definitely. No foul, no offsides. If anything, Bradley was held and it should have been a PK, but it was a definite goal.
  23. Gomez in for Onyewu.
  24. Man, Slovenia is trying to stall as much as they can here.
  25. No team has ever won a World Cup match after being down 2-0 in the first half.
